    Abstract
The selection of a suitable duty factor (DF) remains a major challenge in respiratory-gated treatments. Therefore, this study aims at presenting a new methodology for fast optimizing the gating window width (duty factor (DF)) in respiratory-gated proton partial breast irradiation (PBI). To do so, GATE Monte Carlo simulations were performed for various target sizes and locations in supine and prone positions. Three different duty factors of 20, 25, and 33% were considered. Sparing factors (SF) for four organs-at-risk (OARs) were then assessed. The weighted-sum method was employed to search for an optimal DF. The results indicate that an SF higher than unity was obtained for all plans. The SF...

    , Article Acta Mechanica ; Volume 232, Issue 8 , 2021 , Pages 2955-2972 ; 00015970 (ISSN) Mazaheri, H ; Namdar, A. H ; Ghasemkhani, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2021
    Abstract
The current study develops a 3D constitutive model for photo-thermal sensitive hydrogels based on free energy decomposition. The hydrogel under study is PNIPAM network with copper chlorophyllin nanoparticle agents attached to the network. The effect of light intensity is considered as a rise in temperature since chlorophyllin nanoparticle agents absorb light irradiation and convert it to heat. Moreover, it is necessary to consider the effect of dissociation of these agents on the hydrogel’s free energy function; therefore, a term is added to the free energy function. After introducing the model, some problems, including the free swelling and uniaxial loading problems, are studied, and the...

    IOP Publishing Ltd  2021
    Abstract
Gamma irradiation systems are used extensively in the industry in order to sterilize medical devices, disinfect hygienic products and increase the shelf life of agricultural products. The method of gamma irradiation is superior to the older methods of heat or chemical treatment because it is by far a simpler operation. In this method, only one parameter, the exposure time is controlled, whereas in the other mentioned methods five or six different parameters need to be controlled. The design of irradiation systems generally includes the size and the location of products, and the arrangement of source rack pencils. In order to optimize the design of the gamma irradiation systems, it is needed...

    , Article Ultrasonics Sonochemistry ; Volume 70 , 2021 ; 13504177 (ISSN) Sadatshojaie, A ; Wood, D. A ; Jokar, S. M ; Rahimpour, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2021
    Abstract
Separating produced water is a key part of production processing for most crude oils. It is required for quality reasons, and to avoid unnecessary transportation costs and prevent pipework corrosion rates caused by soluble salts present in the water. A complicating factor is that water is often present in crude oil in the form of emulsions. Experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of ultrasonic fields in demulsifying crude oil emulsions using novel pipe-form equipment. A horn-type piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer with a frequency of 20 kHz and power ranging from 80 W to 1000 W was used for experimental purposes. The influences of the intensity of ultrasonic fields,...
