    2011
    Abstract
In this paper, based on Kirchhoff plate theory (CLPT), vibration analysis of an arbitrary nonlinear variable thickness annular isotropic plate which is covered with piezoelectric layers on the top and bottom surfaces in a short circuit state is performed using a semi-analytic method, named modified wave method (MWM). The plate is partitioned into several continuous segments with constant thicknesses, for which there exists exact analytical solutions. Considering wave method, the solution of each segment is assumed to be the combination of waves moving forward and backward, and at each step, waves in positive and negative directions are obtained in terms of waves at the inner edge of the...

    Abstract
Vibration analysis of a new type of compliant parallel mechanism with flexible intermediate links is investigated. The application of the Timoshenko beam theory to the mathematical modeling of the intermediate flexible link is described, and the equations of motion of the flexible links are obtained by using Lagrange's equation of motion. The equations of motion are obtained in the form of a set of ordinary differential equations by using assumed mode method theory. The governing differential equations of motion are solved using perturbation method. The assumed mode shapes and frequencies are to be obtained based on clamped-clamped boundary conditions. Comparing perturbation method with...

    Abstract
Mixed-mode fracture mechanics analysis of an embedded arbitrarily oriented crack in a two-dimensional functionally graded material using plane elasticity theory is considered. The material properties are assumed to vary exponentially in two planar directions. Then, employing Fourier integral transforms with singular integral equation technique, the problem is solved. The stress intensity factors (SIFs) at the crack tips are calculated under in-plane mechanical loads. Finally, the effects of crack orientation, material non-homogeneity, and other parameters are discussed on the value of SIF in mode I and mode II fracture

    Abstract
Dynamic response of infinite beams supported by random viscoelastic Pasternak foundation subjected to harmonic moving loads is studied. Vertical stiffness in the support is assumed to follow a stochastic homogeneous field consisting of a small random variation around a deterministic mean value. By employing the first order perturbation theory and calculating appropriate Green's functions, the variance of the deflection and bending moment are obtained analytically in integral forms. To simulate the induced uncertainty, two practical cases of cosine and exponential covariance are utilized. A frequency analysis is performed and influences of the correlation length of the stiffness variation on...

    Abstract
A new, robust homogenization scheme for determination of the effective properties of a periodic piezoelectric composite with general multi-coated inhomogeneities is developed. In this scheme the coating does not have to be thin, the shape and orientation of the inclusion and coatings do not have to be identical, their centers do not have to coincide, their properties do not have to remain uniform, and the microstructure can be with the 2D elliptic or the 3D ellipsoidal inclusions. The development starts from the local electromechanical equivalent inclusion principle through the introduction of the position-dependent equivalent eigenstrain and electric field. Then with a Fourier series...

    Abstract
Vibration suppression of elastically supported beams subjected to moving loads is investigated in this work. For a Timoshenko beam with an arbitrary number of elastic supports, subjected to a constant axial compressive force, and having a tuned mass damper (TMD) installed at the mid-span, the equations of motion are derived and using the Galerkin approach the solution is sought. The optimum values of the frequency and damping ratio are determined both analytically and numerically and presented as some design curves directly applicable in the TMD design for bridge structures. To show the efficiency of the designed TMD, computer simulation for two real bridges, subjected to a S.K. S Japanese...

    Abstract
The vibration response of a Timoshenko beam supported by a viscoelastic foundation with randomly distributed parameters along the beam length and jected to a harmonic moving load, is studied. Results of a field measurement for a test track are utilized to model the uncertainty of the foundation parameters. A frequency analysis is carried out and the effect of the load speed on the response is studied. It is found that the...

    , Article International Journal of Mechanical Sciences ; Volume 53, Issue 9 , 2011 , Pages 777-785 ; 00207403 (ISSN) Hashemi, R ; Kargarnovin, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The present paper addresses an analytical method to determine the overall behavior of piezocomposite materials containing body centered cubic (BCC) distribution of arbitrary oriented ellipsoidal heterogeneities. This approach is based on the extension of the electromechanical equivalent inclusion method (EMEIM) to interacting multi-inhomogeneities. In this treatment the short and long range interactions of the piezoelectric particles are appropriately incorporated through the homogenizing eigenstrainelectric field. The periodicity of the microstructure of the medium suggests representing the eigenfields in terms of Fourier series, accounting for the matrixparticle, interparticle and...

    Abstract
Passive control of vibration of beams subjected to moving loads is studied in which, an optimal tuned mass damper (TMD) system is utilized to suppress the undesirable beam vibration. Timoshenko beam theory is applied to the beam model having three types of boundary conditions, namely, hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped, and the clamped-clamped ends, and the governing equations of motion are solved using the Galerkin method. For every set of boundary conditions, a minimax problem is solved using the sequential quadratic programming method and the optimum values of the frequency and damping ratios for the TMD system are obtained. To show the effectiveness of the designed TMD system, simulations of...

    Abstract
The dynamic response of a delaminated composite beam under the motion of an oscillatory mass moving with a constant velocity has been studied. The delaminated composite beam is modeled as four interconnected sub-beams using the delamination limits as their boundaries. The constrained model is used to model the delamination region. The continuity and equilibrium conditions are forced to be satisfied between the adjoining beams. A set of derived governing differential equations along with those obtained by imposing boundary conditions are simultaneously solved in a closed form manner. The results for the response of the delaminated beam were compared with those of the intact beam. Furthermore,...

    , Article Shock and Vibration ; Vol. 2014 , 2014 ; ISSN: 10709622 Mamandi, A ; Kargarnovin, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The dynamic response of a Timoshenko beam with immovable ends resting on a nonlinear viscoelastic foundation and subjected to motion of a traveling mass moving with a constant velocity is studied. On deriving these nonlinear coupled PDEs the stretching effect of the beam's neutral axis due to the beam's fixed end conditions in conjunction with the von-Karman strain-displacement relations is considered. To obtain the dynamic responses of the beam under the act of a moving mass, derived nonlinear...

    Abstract
In this paper, nonlinear dynamical behavior of a rectangular plate traveled by a moving mass as well as an equivalent concentrated force with non-constant velocity is studied. The nonlinear governing coupled partial differential equations (PDEs) of motion are derived by energy method using Hamilton's principle based on the large deflection theory in conjuncture with the von-Karman strain-displacement relations. Then Galerkin's method is used to transform the equations of motion into a set of three coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) which then is solved in a semi-analytical way to get the dynamical response of the plate. Also, by using the Finite Element Method (FEM)...
