The system considered, is a symmetric rotor supported by a cantilever load cell beam and excited by only one electromagnet of a 4-pole magnetic bearing setup. After demonstrating the experimental setup instruction and the specifications of its parts, the clustering, and the sliding mode control methods are explained briefly, then the quality of implementing the techniques to the setup is described step by step. Finally, the results...

Anomalous magnetic moment of hot quarks, inverse magnetic catalysis, and reentrance of the chiral symmetry broken phase

    , Article Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology ; Vol. 90, issue. 10 , 2014 ; ISSN: 15507998 Fayazbakhsh, S ; Sadooghi, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The effect of the anomalous magnetic moment of quarks on thermodynamic properties of the chiral condensate is studied, using a two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model at finite temperature T, chemical potential μ, and in the presence of a uniform magnetic field eB. To this purpose, the Schwinger linear-in-B ansatz for the anomalous magnetic moment of quarks is considered in terms of the nonperturbative Bohr magneton. In a two-dimensional flavor space, it leads to the correction TSch=κQeB in the energy dispersion relation of quarks. Here, Q is the quark charge matrix. We consider three different sets for κ, and numerically determine the dependence of the constituent quark mass on T,μ, and eB for...

    , Article Analytical Methods ; Vol. 6, issue. 15 , 2014 , Pages 5838-5846 ; ISSN: 17599660 Bagheri, H ; Roostaie, A ; Daliri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A magnetic polyurethane (PU) nanocomposite was synthesized by an electrospinning technique and applied for isolation and preconcentration of fluoxetine from aquatic and biological samples. The nanocomposite was electrospun using a PU polymer solution containing the dispersed magnetic nanoparticles. The magnetic properties of iron nanoparticles, along with the use of an electrospinning technique, led to the formation of a suitable sorbent toward isolation of fluoxetine. The magnetic PU nanofibers could be subsequently removed from the sample solution by applying a permanent magnet. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image of the magnetic PU nanofibers confirms that their diameters are in...

    Abstract
Thermal management of electronic devices is presently a serious concern. This article investigates the thermal performance of a five-turn open-loop pulsating heat pipe in both start-up and steady thermal conditions. The effects of working fluid, namely water and ferrofluid, heat input, charging ratio, ferrofluid concentration, orientation, as well as application of magnetic field, are explored. Experimental results show that using ferrofluid enhances the thermal performance in comparison with the case of distilled water under certain conditions. In addition, applying a magnetic field on the open-loop pulsating heat pipe charged with ferrofluid improves its thermal performance. Charging...

    Abstract
A novel magnetic nanocarrier with long spacer length and high colloidal stability has been prepared for effective delivery of doxorubicin (DOX). First, poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer was grown up onto the surface of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles to increase the loading amount of amine groups. Then, terminal amine groups were functionalized by polyethylene glycol dimethylester to increase the spacer length. Then anticancer drug DOX was covalently attached onto the system by hydrazone bond to forms a pH-sensitive nanocarrier. This system is designed to combine the advantage of magnetic targeting, high drug loading capacity, and controlled release

    , Article Carbon ; Vol. 69 , April , 2014 , pp. 230-238 ; ISSN: 00086223 Meidanchi, A ; Akhavan, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Superparamagnetic ZnFe2O4/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composites containing ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles (with ∼5-20 nm sizes) attached onto rGO sheets (with ∼1 μm lateral dimensions) were synthesized by hydrothermal reaction method. By increasing the graphene content of the composite from 0 to 40 wt%, the size as well as the number of the ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles decreased and the saturated magnetization of the composites reduced from 10.2 to 1.8 emu/g, resulting in lower responses to external magnetic fields. Concerning this, the time needed for 90% separation of ZnFe2O4/rGO (40 wt%) composite from its solution (2 mg/mL in ethanol) was found 60 min in the presence of an external magnetic field (∼1...

    , Article International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics ; Vol. 14, issue. 2 , 2014 ; ISSN: 02194554 Firouz-Abadi, R. D ; Mohammadkhani, H ; Amini, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
An efficient hybrid modal-molecular dynamics method is developed for the vibration analysis of large scale nanostructures. The resonance frequencies as well as the nonlinear vibration response obtained by the present technique and direct molecular dynamic simulations are in very good agreement. Also, the obtained results illustrate the hardening behavior of nonlinear vibrations which is diminished by stretching the GNR

Perfect state transfer on spin-1 chains

    , Article Quantum Information Processing ; Vol. 13, issue. 3 , 2014 , pp. 601-614 ; ISSN: 15700755 Asoudeh, M ; Karimipour, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
We show that networks of spin-1 particles connected in a special geometry and subject to Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-Tasaki (AKLT) interaction are capable of perfectly transferring states of particles (qubits and qutrits) if we also allow a global control of the network in predetermined time intervals. The geometry can be one, two, and three dimensional. The strengths of the couplings have the same modulus, and only their signs differ on various bonds. Any particle which is routed in the network acquires relative phase shifts which can be corrected after it is extracted from the network. An advantage of this protocol is that one can route more than one particle through the network simultaneously....
