    Abstract
This paper deals with the nonlinear free vibration analysis of in-plane bi-directional functionally graded (IBFG) rectangular plate with porosities which are resting on Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundations. The material properties of the IBFG plate are assumed to be graded along the length and width of the plate according to the power-law distribution, as well as, even and uneven types are taken into account for porosity distributions. Equations of motion are developed by means of Hamilton's principle and von Karman nonlinearity strain-displacement relations based on classical plate theory (CPT). Afterward, the time-dependent nonlinear equations are derived by applying the Galerkin...

    Abstract
A new and simple method for synthesizing iodohydrins and iodoethers from aromatic alkenes is described. Iodohydrins and iodoether derivatives were prepared in excellent yield using Mercury(II) tetrafluoroborate (Hg(BF4)2.SiO2)/I2 in aqueous THF or alcohols (methanol, iso-propanol and tert-butanol). The reactions take place at room temperature, short reaction times, and high regioselectivity, following Markovnikov fashion. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

    Abstract
The safe, highly effective measles vaccine has been recommended globally since 1974, yet in 2017 there were more than 17 million cases of measles and 83,400 deaths in children under 5 years old, and more than 99% of both occurred in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)1–4. Globally comparable, annual, local estimates of routine first-dose measles-containing vaccine (MCV1) coverage are critical for understanding geographically precise immunity patterns, progress towards the targets of the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP), and high-risk areas amid disruptions to vaccination programmes caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)5–8. A low-complexity high-throughput ASIC for the SC-FDMA MIMO detectors

    , Article ISCAS 2012 - 2012 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 20 May 2012 through 23 May 2012 ; 2012 , Pages 3065-3068 Neshatpour, K ; Mahdavi, M ; Shabany, M ; IEEE Circuits and Systems Society ; Sharif University of Technology
    IEEE  2012
    Abstract
A novel low-complexity detection scheme is proposed for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) single-carrier frequency division-multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, which is suitable for ASIC implementations. The proposed detection scheme makes an initial estimate of the transmitted signal based on a minimum mean square error (MMSE) frequency domain equalizer (FDE) detector and finds symbols with higher error probability among them and browse more candidates for them in the constellation to improve their initial estimate. Based on this approach, architecture is introduced that achieves superior bit error rate (BER) performance compared to the conventional MMSE FDE. The performance of the...

A proposed design method for supersonic inlet to improve performance parameters

    Abstract
A new structure for the compression surfaces of a supersonic inlet is proposed which has improved the target performance parameter i.e. total pressure recovery ratio. This idea resulted in development of a new type of supersonic inlet, utilized four ramps and a cone simultaneously as the compression surfaces. A prototype of the proposed inlet has been designed for a free stream Mach number of 3 and its performance has been evaluated via numerical simulation for both design and off-design conditions. The performance of the newly designed inlet has been compared to the existing experimental data of two double-cone inlets. The acquired data are further compared with analytical calculations of...

    Abstract
A novel and high potent magnetic nanobiocomposite was prepared based on Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and epichlorohydrin (ECH) cross-linker interactions to form a three-dimensional cross-linked CMC hydrogel followed by silk fibroin (SF) and halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) modifications and further in situ Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) formation. Different analytical techniques like FT-IR, EDX, FE-SEM, XRD, TGA, and VSM were used to characterize the structure of the prepared nanobiocomposite. The spherical morphology of Fe3O4 MNPs and tubular HNTs were presented in the FE-SEM images. In biological tests, since the hemolysis percent was even less than the negative control, the CMC...

    Abstract
An area and power efficient high-throughput VLSI implementation of a 4 × 4, 64-QAM soft multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) detector, that is suitable for high-order constellation schemes is presented. The proposed MIMO detector utilizes information contained in the discarded paths to improve the bit-error-rate (BER) performance, and then reduces computational complexity using three innovative improvement ideas. The proposed design is fabricated and fully tested in a 130 nm CMOS technology. Operating with a 270 MHz clock, the design achieves up to 655 Mbps throughput with 195 mW power dissipation at 1.32 V supply. Synthesis results in 65 nm CMOS technology shows that the proposed...

    Abstract
In the present study, metal complexes of 1-amidino-O-alkylureas were designed, synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR spectra, XRD, Mass analyses and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). All synthesized complexes were screen as α-Glucosidase inhibitors. According to the in vitro results, the Cu (II) complexes showed superior potency compared to other tested metal complexes. Particularly, [Cu(L-Me)2](Cl)2 (1b) showed the strongest inhibition against α-Glucosidase with an IC50 value of 2.75 ± 0.3 µM which was comparable to that of acarbose (IC50 = 750 µM). These findings are supported by the ligands and enzyme interactions through molecular docking. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

Previous works that tackle reachability are either unable to handle programs consisting of general loops (e.g. symbolic execution), or lack completeness guarantees (e.g. abstract interpretation), or are not automated (e.g. incorrectness logic). In contrast, we propose a novel approach for reachability analysis that can handle general and complex loops, is complete, and can be entirely automated for a wide family of programs. Through the notion of Inductive Reachability Witnesses (IRWs), our approach extends ideas from both invariant generation and termination to reachability analysis....

    Abstract
By making aligned and suspended copper nanowires, a high performance, transferable, and flexible transparent electrode is reported. Indium tin oxide is often used in devices such as displays, solar cells, and touchscreens that require transparent and conductive plates. Because of problems such as brittleness, high cost, and environmental effects, this material is facing rivals, the most serious of which are metallic nanowire meshes, especially copper. We developed a simple technique which uses a U-shaped collector in the electrospinning process with three advantages including the enhancement of the figure of merit (which is related to the surface resistance Rs and the transmittance T) by...

An efficient VLSI architecture of QPP interleaver/deinterleaver for LTE turbo coding

    , Article Proceedings - IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems ; 2013 , Pages 797-800 ; 02714310 (ISSN) ; 9781467357609 (ISBN) Ardakani, A ; Mahdavi, M ; Shabany, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Long Term Evolution (LTE) supports peak data rates in excess of 300 Mb/s. A good approach to achieve such rates is by parallelizing the required processing in turbo decoders. An interleaver is an important part of a turbo decoder. LTE uses the Quadratic Permutation Polynomial (QPP) interleaver, which makes it suitable for parallel decoding. In this paper, we propose an efficient architecture for the QPP interleaver, called the Add-Compare-Select (ACS) permuting network. A unique feature of the proposed architecture is that it can be used both as the interleaver and deinterleaver leading to a high-speed low-complexity hardware interleaver/deinterleaver for turbo decoding. The proposed design...

Efficient stochastic algorithms for document clustering

    , Article Information Sciences ; Volume 220 , 2013 , Pages 269-291 ; 00200255 (ISSN) Forsati, R ; Mahdavi, M ; Shamsfard, M ; Meybodi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Clustering has become an increasingly important and highly complicated research area for targeting useful and relevant information in modern application domains such as the World Wide Web. Recent studies have shown that the most commonly used partitioning-based clustering algorithm, the K-means algorithm, is more suitable for large datasets. However, the K-means algorithm may generate a local optimal clustering. In this paper, we present novel document clustering algorithms based on the Harmony Search (HS) optimization method. By modeling clustering as an optimization problem, we first propose a pure HS based clustering algorithm that finds near-optimal clusters within a reasonable time....

CFM: A file manager with multiple categorization support

    , Article SEKE 2010 - Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, 1 July 2010 through 3 July 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 748-751 ; 1891706268 (ISBN); 9781891706264 (ISBN) Badashian, A. S ; Afzali, H ; Khalkhali, I ; Delcheh, M. A ; Shafiei, M. S ; Mahdavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper introduces a new file manager to support multiple categorization. The proposed file manager is designed based on a subtle idea named Conceptual File Management (CFM). According to this approach, files are not contained by folders; nevertheless, each file can be a member of one or more folders (concepts). A prototype file manager is designed and implemented based on the new approach. Filtering by set operations and also manual concept selection improves retrieval of the files. CFM improves file system's clarity and avoids ambiguity and redundancy. As a result, it reduces the size of file system and enhances file access

    Abstract
This paper addresses the issue of finding and accessing desired items when a large amount of data items are concerned, by proposing some concepts based on Tree Search Structure -a hierarchical structure for information retrieval. The proposed concepts are applicable to several environments such as File Managers on PCs, help tree views, site maps, taxonomies, and cell phones. A software tool, FTS (File Tree Search), that is developed to utilize the proposed concepts is also presented

Web text mining using harmony search

    , Article Studies in Computational Intelligence ; Volume 270 , 2010 , Pages 51-64 ; 1860949X (ISSN) ; 9783642043161 (ISBN) Forsati, R ; Mahdavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The Harmony Search (HS) algorithm in recent years has been applied in many applications in computer science and engineering. This chapter is intended to review the application of the HS method in the area of web document clustering. Clustering is a problem of great practical importance that has been the focus of substantial research in several domains for decades. It is defined as the problem of partitioning data objects into groups, such that objects in the same group are similar, while objects in different groups are dissimilar. Due to the high-dimension and sparseness properties of documents the problem of clustering becomes more challenging when we apply it on web documents. Two...

Effective page recommendation algorithms based on distributed learning automata

    , Article 4th International Multi-Conference on Computing in the Global Information Technology, ICCGI 2009, 23 August 2009 through 29 August 2009, Cannes, La Bocca ; 2009 , Pages 41-46 ; 9780769537511 (ISBN) Forsati, R ; Rahbar, A ; Mahdavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Different efforts have been done to address the problem of information overload on the Internet. Recommender systems aim at directing users through this information space, toward the resources that best meet their needs and interests by extracting knowledge from the previous users' interactions. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to solve the web page recommendation problem. In our algorithm, we use distributed learning automata to learn the behavior of previous users' and recommend pages to the current user based on learned pattern. Our experiments on real data set show that the proposed algorithm performs better than the other algorithms that we compared to and, at the same time, it is...

The ion streaming effect on weibel instability in the relativistic dense plasma

    , Article Contributions to Plasma Physics ; Volume 57, Issue 8 , 2017 , Pages 351-356 ; 08631042 (ISSN) Khodadadi Azadboni, F ; Mahdavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The Weibel instability plays an important role in stopping hot electrons and energy deposition mechanism in fast ignition of inertial fusion process. In this paper, the ion Weibel instability in counter propagating electron-ion plasmas is investigate. The obtained results show that the growth rate of Weibel instability will be decreased about 40% with the anisotropy velocity as vxe = 2vze = 20; the ion density ratio, b = n0i1/n0i2, and density gradient, are increasing 50 and 90% respectively. The ion streaming in density gradient of dense plasma leads to increasing the Weibel instability growth rate and its amplification through ion streaming in the large wavenumber. The maximum unstable...

    A 38 pJ/b optimal soft-MIMO detector

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs ; Volume 64, Issue 9 , 2017 , Pages 1062-1066 ; 15497747 (ISSN) Shabany, M ; Doostnejad, R ; Mahdavi, M ; Gulak, P. G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
An optimal soft multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detector is proposed with linear complexity for a general spatial multiplexing system with two transmitting symbols and NR 2 receiving antennas. The computational complexity of the proposed scheme is independent of the operating signal-to-noise ratio and grows linearly with the constellation order. It provides the soft maximum-likelihood solution using an efficient log-likelihood ratio calculation method, avoiding the exhaustive search on all the candidate nodes. Moreover, an efficient pipelined hardware implementation of the detection algorithm is proposed, which is fabricated and fully tested in a 130-nm CMOS technology. Operating at...
