    Abstract
The hardness of the Ni-Cr alloy which is electrodeposited in chloride solution, is optimized by design of experiment method (central composite design). Various parameters were evaluated in order to find significant factors in this process. Frequency, duty cycle, current density and temperature were selected as effective factors. Analyses of variance (ANOVA) were performed on the results of the designed experiments. The best model which can predict the hardness of the Ni-Cr alloy electrodeposits was found whereas the frequency and quadratic behaviour of the current density were the most significant model terms. Serious interaction of the current density with frequency and duty cycle also were...

The effect of TLP bonding temperature on microstructural and mechanical property of joints made using FSX-414 superalloy

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 546 , June , 2012 , Pages 291-300 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Bakhtiari, R ; Ekrami, A ; Khan, T. I ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The bonding temperature is an important parameter for optimization of the Transient Liquid Phase (TLP) bonding process in order to achieve a sound joint with good mechanical properties. However, the bonding temperature used can also be restricted by the microstructural stability of the base metal. In this study, the effect of bonding temperature (1050-1200 °C) on the joint microstructure and mechanical properties was studied for TLP bonding of FSX-414 superalloy using MBF-80 interlayer with thickness of 50 μm. Increasing bonding temperature from 1050 to 1150 °C caused reduction in the time required for complete isothermal solidification in agreement with models based on the diffusion induced...

    Abstract
In the present research the aging behavior of Al6061 alloy and Al6061/SiCp composite fabricated by powder metallurgy method was investigated. The solution treatment of the samples were carried out at 527°C for 2, 3and 4 h followed by aging at 180°C for different aging times between 1 and 10 h. The existence of SiC particles led to increasing the peak hardness of the composite. The peak hardness of the composite took place at shorter times than that of the 6061 alloy for the samples solution treated for 3and 4 h, but took place at longer times for the samples solution treated for 2 h. The optimum solution treating time was about 3 h for both the composite and the 6061 alloy that led to the...

Effect of rolling speed on the occurrence of strain aging during and after warm rolling of a low-carbon steel

    Abstract
In this study, effect of rolling speed on strain aging phenomena in warm rolling of a carbon steel has been investigated. For this purpose, by using a mathematical model and predicting temperature and strain rate fields, the possibility of occurrence of dynamic strain aging during the warm rolling was first evaluated. In the next stage, warm-rolled samples were aged up to 11 months at room temperature for studying the kinetics of static strain aging, while mechanical tests as well as microstructural evolutions have been performed to determine the effect of strain aging on material behavior. The results indicate that dynamic strain aging may not occur for the employed rolling program;...

    Abstract
In the present research work the 2024 aluminum alloy was reinforced with SiC particles via powder metallurgy method. The effect of heat treatment conditions on artificial aging kinetics was investigated. The solution treatment of the composite sample and the unreinforced alloy was carried out at 495 °C for 1, 2 and 3 h followed by aging at 191 °C for various aging times between 1 and 10 h. The existence of SiC particles led to increasing the peak hardness of the alloy. The peak hardness of the composite sample took place at shorter times than that of the unreinforced alloy for the samples solution treated for 2 and 3 h, but took place at longer times for the samples solution treated for 1 h....

Effect of electropulsing on microstructure and hardness of cold-rolled low carbon steel

    Abstract
The application of electropulsing treatment (EPT) is studied on the microstructure and hardness of cold-rolled low carbon steel. The effects of electrical pulses on the grain refinement, precipitate size evolution and hardness are investigated. It is found that applying electrical pulse decreases the grain and precipitate size and increases the hardness in the early stages of electropulsing, but the grain and precipitate size is increased and the hardness is decreased by continuing electropulsing. Also, the effect of electropulsing treatment variables as well as treated time and number of periods are discussed. It is demonstrated that increasing treated time can accelerate achieving maximum...

    Abstract
In this study, a multistage strain aging method that used rolling pre-strain (compression) was developed to study the effects of temperature, and inter-pass time on static strain aging behavior of low carbon steel. An increase in hardness and strength caused by work hardening due to the forming process and aging at every stage of aging that is calculated separately. To comparing the effects of multistage aging against typical strain aging, the samples were rolled and subjected to the aging process both exist in typical one-stage aging that setting a 20% rolling pre-strain and in multiple stages pre-strain by setting a 5% rolling ratio in four stages. The mechanical properties of aged samples...
