Effect of brine salinity and hydrolyzed polyacrylamide concentration on the Oil/Brine and Brine/Rock Interactions: Implications on enhanced oil recovery by hybrid low salinity polymer flooding in sandstones

    , Article Fuel ; Volume 324 , 2022 ; 00162361 (ISSN) Amiri, M ; Fatemi, M ; Biniaz Delijani, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
The main idea behind the application of Low salinity polymer flooding (LSPF) enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method is that diluted brine improves the oil recovery by wettability alteration from oil-wet (OW) towards water-wet (WW) condition, while polymer enhances the mobility of the displacing phase. However the possible effect of polymer on the fluid/fluid and fluid/rock interactions are not investigated systematically in the literature. The main objective of the present reserach is to examine the possible effect of hybrid application of low-salinity and polymer on the brine/rock and brine/oil interfaces properties. Formation water (FW) and sea water (SW) and its two different dilutions, i.e....

Mutual information map as a new way for exploring the independence of chemically meaningful solutions in two-component analytical data

    , Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Volume 1227 , 2022 ; 00032670 (ISSN) Hashemi Nasab, F.S ; Abdollahi, H ; Tauler, R ; Rukebusch, C ; Parastar, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
In the present contribution, a new approach based on mutual information (MI) is proposed for exploring the independence of feasible solutions in two component systems. Investigating how independent are different feasible solutions can be a way to bridge the gap between independent component analysis (ICA) and multivariate curve resolution (MCR) approaches and, to the best of our knowledge, has not been investigated before. For this purpose, different chromatographic and hyperspectral imaging (HSI) datasets were simulated, considering different noise levels and different degrees of overlap for two-component systems. Feasible solutions were then calculated by both grid search (GS) and...

    Abstract
Wettability alteration as the main mechanism of improved oil recovery in carbonates during low salinity/engineered water flooding (LS/EWF) is a complex phenomenon due to high heterogeneity of rock. During LS/EWF, wettability changes when electrochemical interactions at carbonate-brine interface happen. Anhydrite impurity in carbonates is one of the most important parameters affecting the electrochemical interactions at the rock-brine interface and the wettability alteration process. Therefore, the success of LS/EWF in carbonate reservoirs lies in perceiving the role of impurities such as anhydrite, from a geochemical and dissolution point of view. Modified flotation tests (MFT) were...

    Elsevier B.V  2021
    Abstract
In this research, a series of NiO–MgO–SiO2 catalyst samples with various nickel contents (5, 10, 15 and 20 wt %) were prepared by a co-precipitation method followed by a hydrothermal treatment and employed in propane steam reforming. The analyses revealed that the enhancement of the nickel content up to 15 wt % improved the propane conversion to 98.6% at 550 °C. Nonetheless, further increase in the nickel loading reduced the catalyst activity due to the formation of larger and more poorly dispersed active sites. Besides, 15 wt % nickel loading led to the high resistance against coke deposition with no detectable carbon on the catalyst surface. In addition, it was revealed that, the decrease...

    Abstract
Enhanced Oil Recovery from carbonate reservoirs is a major challenge especially in naturally fractured formations where spontaneous imbibition is a main driving force. The Low Salinity Water Injection (LSWI) method has been suggested as one of the promising methods for enhanced oil recovery. However, the literature suggests that LSWI method, due to high dependence on rock mineralogy, injected and formation water salt concentration, and complexity of reactions is not a well-established technology in oil recovery from carbonate reservoirs. The underlying mechanism of LSWI is still not fully understood. Due to lack of LSWI study in free clay dolomite fractured reservoir, and to investigate of...
