Dynamic Motion Planning and Obstacle Avoidance Simulation for Autonomous Robot-car in Webots

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amiryan, Javad (Author) ; Jamzad, Mansour (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Motion planning in an autonomous vehicle is responsible for providing smooth, safe and efficient actions. Besides reducing the risk of collision with static and moving obstacles, the ability to make suitable decisionsencountering sudden changes in environment is very important. Many solutions for dealing this problem have been offered, one of which is, Artificial Potential Fields (APF). APF is a simple and computationally low cost method which keeps the robot away from the obstacles in the environment. However, this approach suffers from trapping in local minima’s of potential function and then fails to produce a plan. Furthermore,Oscillation in presence of obstacles or in narrow passages...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Korhani, Mohammad Saeed (Author) ; Vosoughi Vahdat, Bijan (Supervisor) ; Mortazavi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Science has been improved in all aspects and robotics is considered an important field, which helps, do work more efficiently. In the meantime, one of the most popular aspects of robotics is the movement, both physical (in terms of the number of mechanical actuators, the number of arms and legs, the number of wheels, the robot's weight and gravity) and in terms of programming and algorithms. Programming and algorithms are divided into two categories: 1. Programs to control robots and manipulate dynamics associated with robot movement. 2. Algorithms and the ways for routing. The first group is programming associated with control of robots. Motion planning or path planning is the next. In...

Real-Time Hybrid Motion Planning For Autonomous Uavs in Dynamic Environments

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mashayekh, Ehsan (Author) ; Alasty, Aria (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study is about real-time hybrid motion planning for autonomous UAVs in dynamic environments. The algorithm is based on system dynamic quantization to trim trajectories and maneuvers, constructing a library of primitives which guarantee the controllability of the system. Random algorithms introduced in literature of motion planning have an offline phase, reducing the computational complexity of online phase. By using dynamic quantization, we have achieved a new totally online algorithm, increasing the probability of finding a solution. Dynamic programming is the core of this algorithm, instead of offline calculations in before random algorithms. In order to decrease the exponential...

Design of Continuous and Time-Invariant Controllers for Exponential Stabilization of Periodic Walking and Running Locomotion in Planar Bipedal Robots

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Akbari Hamed, Kaveh (Author) ; Sadati, Nasser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
During the last decades there have been enormous advances in robot control of dynamic walking and running. The desire to study legged locomotion has been motivated by 1) the desire to replace humans in hazardous occupations, 2) the desire to assist disabled people to walk and 3) the desire to investigate the complicated motions of the mankind. The control of dynamic walking and running is complicated by (i) limb coordination, (ii) hybrid nature of running due to presence of impact and takeoff, (iii) underactuation and overactuation, (iv) inability to apply the Zero Moment Point (ZMP) criterion, (v) lack of algorithms to achieve feasible period-one orbits, and (vi) conservation of angular...

    Abstract
In line with advances in science and technology in the areas of robotics, artificial intelligence, computer and control, unmanned vehicles are being more utilized and focused. On the other hand, development and further advances of these vehicles is highly dependent on the level of their autonomy. Motion planning is one of the most important issues in this regard. Due to high levels of autonomy required for unmanned air vehicles (UAV), the subject of motion planning is of valuable interest in aerospace applications. The goal of the motion planning problem, that is the subject of this research, is to extract an optimal trajectory for the UAV from an initial location toward its target point...

Finding the Kernel in an Unknown Polygon by a Robot with Minimal Sensing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haratian, Saeed (Author) ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, we want to find a point of the kernel in an unknown star-shaped polygon by a robot with minimal sensing, such that the path is not far from the optimum path. The robot has a gap sensor which detects the dicontinuities (gaps) in its visibility polygon and detects the direction of gaps. The robat can move toward or against these gaps. Also, the robot has a compass, and detects the North, the West, the South and the East. The robot detects the position of gaps between these directions, and also, can move along these directions. In this research, we present an on-line algorithm, by which this robot can find a point of the kernel in an unknown star-shaped polygon. The...

Indoor Office Environment Mapping Using a Mobile Robot with Kinect Sensor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sartipi, Kourosh (Author) ; Jamzad, Mansour (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years with advancement of Robotics, the applications of wide scale use of robots in our homes is not as far-fetched as it was before. One of the important problems for an indoor robot is moving inside a new and unknown environment. To achieve this, the robot should, with the help of its sensors, not only calculate its location; but should also build a map of the environment for later use. Additionally, the robot must be able to explore this unknown environment. The most important drawbacks of the classical solutions to these problems are long computation times, heavy memory usage and absence of precision. In recent years, large amount of research effort has put on solving these...

    Extensions to Feedback Motion Planning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Negar (Author) ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Abam, Mohammad Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the ultimate goals in robotics is to design autonomous robots. Among other things, this means a robot has to be able to plan its own motion. To be able to plan a motion, a robot must have some knowledge about the environment in which it is moving. Some of this information can be provided by a floor plan. For other information the robot will have to rely on its sensors. In this thesis, we consider that the environment is unknown for the robot. So, the robot uses weak sensor to planning its motion. The sensor can distinguish between colors. The robot can follow the colors. Therefore, we need to specify the umber of colors in which the robot can navigate by them. We propose an efficient...

    Abstract
This work presents a novel approach to redefine a "Safe Aircraft" based on systems engineering fundamentals. We aim todemonstrate the possibility as well as suitability of the "Functional-Aircraft" instead of currently employed concept of "Physically-defined-Safe-Aircraft". The current work is consistent with ever-increasing number of flights; as it suggests that any aircraft that can complete its mission should not declare emergencies due to any physical malfunction. With proper simulations, wedemonstrate the feasibility of "Functionally Safe" concept as oppose to the "Physically Safe" aircraft. The process revolves around standard and well-known documents such as FTA and FMEA; which are...

    Abstract
Self-reconfigurable modular robots (SRMRs) have recently attracted considerable attention because of their numerous potential applications in the real world. In this paper, we draw a comprehensive comparison among five different algorithms in path planning of a novel SRMR system called ACMoD through an environment comprised of various terrains in a static condition. The contribution of this work is that the reconfiguration ability of ACMoD has been taken into account. This consideration, though raises new algorithmic challenges, equips the robot with new capability to pass difficult terrains rather than bypassing them, and consequently the robot can achieve better performance in terms of...

    Abstract
Using mobile robots in disaster areas can reduce risks and the search time in urban search and rescue operations. Optimal path-planning for mobile robotics can play a key role in the reduction of the search time for rescuing victims. In order to minimize the search time, the shortest path to the target should be determined. In this paper, a new integrated Reinforcement Learning—based method is proposed to search and find a hidden target in an unknown environment in the minimum time. The proposed algorithm is developed in two main phases. Depending on whether or not the mobile robot receives the signal from the hidden target, phases I or II of the proposed algorithm can be carried out. Then,...

    Abstract
We study the problem of finding a target t from a start point s in street environments with the cooperation of two robots which have a minimal sensing capability; that is, robots do not know any information about the workspace including information on distances, edges, coordinates, angles etc. They just can detect the discontinuities in the visibility region of their location. The robots can detect target point t as soon as it enters their visibility region and have communication peripherals to send messages to each other. Our aim is to minimize the length of the path passed by the robots. We propose an online algorithm for robots such that they move in the workspace and find the target....

A continuous RRT*-based path planning method for non-holonomic mobile robots using B-spline curves

Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH  2022
    Abstract
Rapidly exploring random trees (RRT) are sampling-based approaches being widely applied for path planning of mobile robots. Since the output of these algorithms usually is a stream of discrete lines involving discontinuity at the linking points, kinematic constraints restrict the robot's movements. Consequently, robots may not pass discrete points in the path correctly. Hence, the using CAGD (Computer-Aided Geometry Design) curves can run simultaneously alongside those algorithms or may run after that to make a smooth path and that's the way in which non-holonomic constraints can be considered perfect and robots can be droved autonomously across them about the collision detection method...

    Abstract
Contact modeling plays a central role in motion planning, simulation and control of legged robots, as legged locomotion is realized through contact. The two prevailing approaches to model the contact consider rigid and compliant premise at interaction ports. Contrary to the dynamics model of legged systems with rigid contact (without impact) which is straightforward to develop, there is no consensus among researchers to employ a standard compliant contact model. Our main goal in this paper is to study the dynamics model structure of bipedal walking systems with rigid contact and a novel compliant contact model, and to present experimental validation of both models. For the model with rigid...

    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of finding the shortest path between two points in the presence of single-point visibility constraints is studied, In these types of constraint, there should be at least one point on the output path from which a fixed viewpoint is visible. The problem is studied in various domains, including simple polygons, polygonal domains and polyhedral surfaces. The method is based on partitioning the boundary of the visibility region of the viewpoint into a number of intervals. This is done from the combinatorial structure of the shortest paths from the source and destination to the points on the boundary. The result for the case of simple polygons is optimal with O(n) time...

    Abstract
This paper attempts to give a perspective on decentralized formation control of multiple car-like mobile robots using local information and formation changes in a dynamic environment having several obstacles. In addition, for every mobile robot, it takes physical dimensions, mass, moment of inertia, movement constraints, and saturation of actuators into account. This study makes use of Input/Output Feedback Linearization Method to control each robot. Hence, hierarchical leader-follower based algorithm is employed to control the group formation. To avoid collision between robots and obstacles, and of robots with each other, local artificial potential fields are addressed. The group can change...

    Abstract
A major issue required to enhance the autonomy level of unmanned vehicles is real-time motion planning. In this context, optimal trajectories need to be generated online considering the vehicle's dynamic potentials and constraints. However, autonomous air vehicles often need to plan and execute their missions with varying objectives that may even be dictated in flight. Therefore, the current study introduces and focuses on the new concept of variable-objective motion planning. In this regard, a new dynamic multi-objective heuristic optimization algorithm is developed for path and motion planning of autonomous air vehicles in presence of deterministic terrain obstacles as well as random...

    Abstract
In this paper, a generalized intelligent water drops algorithm (IWD) for solving robot path planning problem is proposed. The authors want to reduce the time of reaching the optimal solution as much as possible. To do this, some new heuristic operators and a multi section graph model of environment is introduced. The authors divide graph to equal sections and compare behaviour of the solutions (paths) in each section with behaviour of them in other sections. This comparison uses a fuzzy inference system. Base on this comparison, a fuzzy number is assigned to each part of solutions. This fuzzy number determines the worth of a solution in a section. Less worth solutions need more improvement....
