    Adaptive level control to improve QoS in OCDMA local area networks

    Abstract
    In this paper, we propose a new method for creating more distinguishable QoS levels in OCDMA networks. The key idea behind the proposed scheme is to adaptively control the transmit power level in each chip based on OCDMA channel state. The structure of the transmitter and receiver are proposed. We provide performance analysis of the recommended scheme and show that it can reduce the system BER and provide better QoS differentiation in a multiclass network. We provide simulation results and demonstrate that they have a good match with the results obtained from mathematical analysis

    Abstract
    We consider a time-hopping based multiple access scheme introduced in [1] for communication over dispersive infrared links, and evaluate its performance for correlator and matched filter receivers. In the investigated time-hopping code division multiple access (TH-CDMA) method, the transmitter benefits a low rate convolutional encoder. In this method, the bit interval is divided into Nc chips and the output of the encoder along with a PN sequence assigned to the user determines the position of the chip in which the optical pulse is transmitted.     Abstract
    Infrared indoor wireless communications using nondirected links are subject to severe multipath distortion which causes intersymbol interference (ISI). To lessen multipath distortion effect and thereby to improve the system performance, in this paper, we consider a new time-hopping based multiple access scheme for this channel, in which one pulse is transmitted in each bit interval.     We consider a combined time-hopping (TH) and spread-time (ST) multiple-access technique that uses an internal code. In this method, the duration of each bit is divided into Ns frames. The outputs of the encoder and a pseudorandom (PN) sequence specify the number of the frame in which the data bit is transmitted in ST code-division multiple-access (ST-CDMA) form using the second PN sequence.     Optical Code Division Multiple Access has recently received considerable attention in wireless infrared communication. Previously introduced algorithms for wireless indoor infrared communication such as Advanced Infrared and IEEE 802.11 infrared standard use specific media access control (MAC) layer algorithms to coordinate transmission of multiple users. In this paper, we compare the multiple access performance of OCDMA with that of these algorithms and demonstrate the relative strengths and weaknesses of each algorithm.
