    Chemometrics-assisted GC-MS analysis of volatile and semi-volatile constituents of elettaria cardamomum

    Abstract
    Multivariate curve resolutions (MCR) along with other chemometric techniques are proposed to improve the analysis of Iranian Elettaria cardamomum (E. cardamom) essential oil with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In addition, multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares (MCR-ALS) is used to obtain pure elution and mass spectral profiles for the components present in each chromatographic segment as well as their relative concentrations. This strategy was also used to overcome the problems of baseline offset, asymmetric peaks, retention time shifts, and overlapped and embedded peaks occurring during GC-MS analysis.     This work is concerned with the monitoring of ultrasound effects on inhibition, as well as the reversible kinetics modeling of asphaltene flocculation in toluene-n-alkane systems, which has been rarely reported in the literature. A crude oil sample was exposed to ultrasound waves, and then the colloidal structural evolutions of flocculated asphaltene particles induced by addition of n-alkane were studied, using a confocal microscopy.     Abstract
    Three strategies were employed for the assembly of gold nanoparticles on silica-coated magnetite particles (SCMPs). In strategy I, citrate-coated gold nanoparticles were attached on the surface of amine-SCMPs. In strategy II, amine-SCMPs were coated with carboxylated gold nanoparticles via amide bond formation. In strategy III, the thiol-SCMPs surface was coated with gold nanoparticles. Among the above examined strategies, coating amine-SCMPs with gold nanoparticles via strategy I resulted in a better coverage and stronger intensity of absorption bands.     Abstract
    In this work, a novel heterogeneous organocatalyst was synthesized by immobilization of hydroxide ions on the modified salep as a natural polymer. Because of the grafting of ionic polymer chains onto the salep backbone, catalyst has high loading level of hydroxide ions (3.01 mmol/g). The resulting catalyst shows excellent activity in the synthesis of 4H-benzo[b]pyrans in water at room temperature in short reaction times. The present catalyst and protocol represent a simple, ecologically safe and cost-effective route to synthesize 4H-benzo[b]pyrans with high product yield, as well as easy catalyst recycling

    Abstract
    An eco-friendly, simple, and effective protocol is developed for the synthesis of various multisubstituted 2-aminothiophenes. In the presence of a catalytic amount of ZnO (5 mol), ketones or aldehydes, malononitrile and elemental sulfur were converted to the corresponding 2-aminothiophene derivatives in moderate to high yields (27%-70%) under solvent-free conditions at 100 °C. Zinc oxide as an efficient, readily available, and reusable catalyst, showed very good catalytic activity for the synthesis of 2-aminothiophene derivatives.     Abstract
    In this study, mathematical modelling of oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) to C 2 hydrocarbons (C 2H 6 and C 2H 4) over La 2O 3/CaO catalyst in a fixed-bed reactor operated under isothermal and non-isothermal conditions was investigated using the MATLAB program. In this process, methane and acetylene were the inputted feed and ethane, ethylene, propylene, propane, i-butane and n-butane were the output products. The amount of methane conversion obtained was 12.7% for the former feed however; if pure methane was inputted this conversion rose to 13.8%.     Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was successfully immobilized on amine functionalized TiO 2-coated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (NH 2-TiO 2-CNTs) by a convenient and efficient method. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and amperometry were applied to characterize the HRP/NH 2-TiO 2-CNT nano-composite. These techniques showed that the NH 2-TiO 2-CNTs greatly enhance the electron transfer between HRP and the modified electrode.     The main aim of this work was to assess the ability of Bayesian multivariate adaptive regression splines (BMARS) and Bayesian radial basis function (BRBF) techniques for modelling the gas chromatographic retention indices of volatile components of Artemisia species.     The preparation of two new bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) platinum(ii) complexes, in which NHC rings are joined by a CH2 linker group, is described. While, the chelate complex [PtMe2(bis-NHC1)], 1, was formed with large tert-butyl wingtips, the iso-propyl N-substituent analogue favors formation of the cluster complex [Pt2Me4(μ- SMe2)(μ-bis-NHC2)]2(μ-Ag2Br2), 2, in which two binuclear platinum(ii) complexes are linked together by an Ag2Br2 unit.     Abstract
    Copper-succinate-layered hydroxide (CSLH), a new nanohybrid material, was synthesized as an inorganic-organic nanohybrid, in which organic moiety was intercalated between the layers of a single cation layered material, copper hydroxide nitrate. Microporous scaffold carbon material was obtained by thermal decomposition of the nanohybrid at 500°C under argon atmosphere followed by acid washing process. Furthermore, the heat-treated product of the nanohybrid at 600°C was ultrafine mesoporous metallic copper particles. The results of this study confirmed the great potential of CSLH to produce the carbon material with large surface area (580m2/g) and high pore volume copper powder (2.04cm3/g)

    Highly active unsupported MoO3 and Co -MoO3 catalysts were prepared by a simple solution reaction method in the presence of different organic additives. Catalysts were characterized by the XRD, BET surface area measurement, SEM and TEM techniques. Results suggested that utilizing different additives produced different morphologies OfMoO3 microstructures. Optimizing reaction conditions was found to produce more active molybdenum oxide nanoparticles when urea and PEG200 additives were utilized.     Petroleum monoaromatics including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) are among the notorious volatile organic compounds that contaminate water and soil. In this study, a surfactant- modified natural zeolite and its relevant granulated nanozeolites were evaluated as potential adsorbents for removal of petroleum monoaromatics from aqueous solutions. All experiments performed in batch mode at constant temperature of 20°C and pH of 6.8 for 48 h.
