, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farhadi, Leila (Author) ; Sadighi Bonabi, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Copper vapor Laser is one of the strongest and the most efficient visible laser with high repetition rate. It has been the subject of interest in research, industrial and clinical applications. It’s oscillating lines with 510.5 and 578.2 nm between resonance level and metastable level is acting as pulsed type laser. The problem with this laser is its high operating temperature of 1500 C. This high operating temperature could be reduced by using copper halides, where the temperature decreases from 400 to 500 C. The produced heat will first produce the molecular vapors, then the release and excitation of copper occurs with electrical discharge.
In the present study the effect of...

It shows average power-added efficiency of 37% and large signal gain of 15 dB in measurements which is consistent with simulation results. The output power and efficiency of the realised amplifier reach maximums of 37.6 dBm and 45%, respectively. Considering output power, bandwidth, chip area and...

Output power maximization and optimal symmetric freewheeling excitation for switched reluctance generators

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications ; Volume 49, Issue 3 , 2013 , Pages 1031-1042 ; 00939994 (ISSN) Nasirian, V ; Kaboli, S ; Davoudi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Space constraint is a limiting factor for the widespread commercial adaptation of switched reluctance generators (SRGs). Maximizing the output power and minimizing the dc bus filter size are thus highly desired. The output power profiles of a typical SRG are determined by applying various excitation angles. Excitation for maximum output power is obtained while limiting the rms value of the phase currents. The dc bus current of an SRG drive, operating in single pulse mode, is highly distorted by low-frequency ripples. Introducing a freewheeling angle in the excitation pattern can lower the current ripple factor. A novel transform is proposed to establish a relationship between the...

    Abstract
This paper presents a method to maximize the output power of a DFIG wind turbine. In this method, an optimization technique based on mathematical analysis has been used. The modeling of DFIG is performed using MATLAB. To evaluate the maximum output power of a DFIG, detailed expressions for output power and losses are derived as functions of generator slip, the magnitude and phase angle of rotor excitation voltage in various wind velocities. The outcomes of this method demonstrate that maximum output power of a DFIG wind turbine do not happen in the maximum input power (the mechanical power of wind turbine)

    Abstract
In this paper, the participation of wind farms in load frequency control (LFC) is studied. A previously proposed macromodel for the wind farm is employed to regulate its output power. The wind farm including its proposed control strategy is incorporated into the conventional LFC model. The proposed LFC structure is able to dynamically maintain the system frequency at the nominal value against the power imbalances. To achieve proper transient response, the integral control parameter of the LFC controller is optimized using the genetic algorithm (GA). To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, several simulation case studies are carried out. The results show that the wind farm can...

Results show that when the density of particles increases to an upper limit, the intensity of lasing modes is enhanced. Also, the effects of pumping rate and particle size on the number of lasing modes and their intensity are studied. Lasing threshold of laser modes in different disordered systems is calculated and it is shown that by an...

    , Article Optics and Laser Technology ; Volume 43, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 814-819 ; 00303992 (ISSN) Jafari, R ; Golnabi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this article, two optical-fibre probes used in displacement measurements are reported. In one arrangement, two optical fibres with protective buffer jackets are placed together, while in the second arrangement, the protective buffer jackets are removed and the two fibres are placed with the claddings in contact, with a concomitant smaller centrecentre distance. As the core and cladding diameters are the same in both probes, the effect of the centrecentre distance on double-fibre designs can be investigated. The reflected output powers are recorded for the probes as a function of the axial distance from a reflective surface. A theoretical model is also implemented, which considers the...

To demonstrate the advantages of the proposed architecture, a 900-MHz CMOS PA with the proposed power combiner was implemented with a 0.18-μm radio-frequency CMOS process. The amplifier achieved an efficiency value of 24% at the maximum output...

Investigation of breakdown voltage in InAIAs/InGaAs/InP HEMTs with different structures

    , Article IEICE Electronics Express ; Volume 7, Issue 19 , 2010 , Pages 1447-1452 ; 13492543 (ISSN) Ohadi, S ; Faez, R ; Hoseini, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
InAlAs/InGaAs/InP high electron mobility transistors have higher mobility comparing to structures without indium. But existence of indium causes smaller Eg and as a result smaller breakdown voltage. However, increasing percentage of indium results in higher mobility and as a result higher current and transconductance. Therefore decreasing percentage of indium causes higher breakdown voltage at the sometime lower transconductance. One of the most important parameters that limit maximum output power of transistor is breakdown voltage. In this paper, InAIAs/InGaAs/InP HEMTs with different structures are simulated and a structure with a good transconductance and breakdown voltage is introduced

    Abstract
In this study power transmission modulation for different fibers in a fiber-to-fiber design using two different light sources is reported. A fiber-to-fiber arrangement is used in which the source light is directly coupled to the first fiber and the second fiber delivers the light to a power meter. Arrangements with three sets of different type fibers are tested in this study and output powers are monitored with the white lamp or red LED as illumination light sources. Using this arrangement the variations of the power as a result of axial (Z-direction) and lateral (X- and Y-direction) displacements of the second fiber are monitored. Theoretical models are also used to evaluate the power...
