    Abstract
Reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was used to improve the hydrogen sensing properties of Pd and Pt-decorated TiO2 nanoparticles by facile production routes. The TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by sol–gel method and coupled on GO sheets via a photoreduction process. The Pd or Pt nanoparticles were decorated on the TiO2/RGO hybrid structures by chemical reduction. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrated that GO reduction is done by the TiO2 nanoparticles and Ti–C bonds are formed between the TiO2 and the RGO sheets as well. Gas sensing was studied with different concentrations of hydrogen ranging from 100 to 10,000 ppm at various temperatures. High sensitivity (92%) and fast response time...

Hydro-purification of crude terephthalic acid using palladium catalyst supported on multi-wall carbon nanotubes

    , Article Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry ; 2015 ; ISSN: 1226086X Tourani, S ; Khorasheh, F ; Rashidi, A. M ; Safekordi, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Palladium catalysts supported on functionalized multi-wall carbon nanotubes were synthesized for hydro-purification of crude terephthalic acid containing 2100ppm 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4-CBA) as impurity. PdCl2 and Pd(OAc)2 were used as precursors. Palladium loadings were 0.05 to 0.6wt.% with catalysts reduced at 200 to 400°C. Catalysts prepared from both precursors with least 0.3wt.% palladium resulted in 99%+ removal of 4-CBA. The most desired selectivity was obtained for the catalyst with PdCl2 as precursor, reduction temperature of 300°C, and palladium loading of 0.3wt.%. This catalyst had slightly better performance than the commercial catalyst (0.5wt.% of palladium on activated carbon)...

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Vol. 77, issue , January , 2014 , p. 558-563 Irani, E ; Omidvar, H ; Sadighi-Bonabi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Photo-transmutation of hazardous long lived radioactive 107Pd induced by bremsstrahlung and Compton scattering is carried out. Photonuclear reactions is investigated by irradiating a 2 mm tantalum target with a 10 21 W cm-2 μm2 laser intensity into a 1 cm thick 107Pd target placed directly behind it. Based on the reported data by intense and well-collimated gamma photon beams generated by inexpensive inverse Compton scatterings of a 100 W CO2 laser and the 3.5 GeV high energy electron, a suitable theoretical formalism is presented. The scattered energy and the differential cross section are characterized as a function of scattering angle. It is found that the number of reactions in the...

    Abstract
An efficient heterogeneous palladium catalyst system has been developed based on immobilization of Pd nanoparticles on silica-bonded N-propylpiperazine (SBNPP) substrate. SBNPP substrate can stabilize the Pd nanoparticles effectively so that it can improve their stability against aggregation. Also, grafted piperazine species onto the silica backbone prevents the removing of Pd nanoparticles from the substrate surface. It seems that the high recyclable capability of Pd-SBNPP catalysts is resulted from these two characteristics. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of catalyst is shown the size of Pd nanoparticles in Pd-SBNPP average of 20 nm. Furthermore, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy...

    Abstract
In this study, tungsten oxide films were deposited by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) technique. The as-deposited films were annealed at 250 °C in air for 1 h. The surface morphology, microstructure, crystalline phase, and chemical composition of the films were characterized by SEM, XRD and XPS techniques. Consequently, the reduction of the PtCl2 into the metallic Pt nanoparticles was performed at 200 °C. In this study, the effect of the temperature during hydrogen reduction of...

The specific capacitance and the stability of electrode showed improvements. The results illustrated that the specific capacitance of these electrodes was around 1060 F g-1 in 1.0 M H2SO4 electrolyte as measured at a constant current of 2.0 A g-1, whereas it was 210 F g-1 for the...

    Abstract
Conditions for an efficient ligand-free Heck C-C coupling reaction of aryl iodides and bromides with terminal olefins under aerobic conditions have been developed. Critical to the success of this new protocol is the use of palladium acetate as an extremely active catalyst for the Heck reaction in water and aqueous media. Both the base and the solvent were found to have a fundamental influence on the efficiency of the reaction, with K2CO3 and a mixture of (2:1) H2O/DMSO being the optimal base and solvent, respectively

    Abstract
In this study, WO 3 nanocrystallites were first produced by laser ablation of W target in deionised water. To synthesize palladium, a PdCl 2 solution (0.2 g/L) was added to the liquid. Transmission electron microscope revealed successful synthesis of tungsten oxide nanocrystallites along with the production of Pd and core-shell Pd/WO3 nanoparticles. Gasochromic behavior was examined by hydrogen bubbling into Pd/WO 3 liquid in which a transition to blue absorbing state was observed. Optical absorption spectra of the colored liquid represented different sharp small polaron absorbing peaks below 3 eV and the peaks intensity was observed to be varied with Pd:WO 3 ratio. Time variations of...

    Abstract
Nowadays, gasochromic Pd/WO3 coatings as optically switchable materials have become more applicable for hydrogen sensors and smart windows. In this study, WO3 films were prepared by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) and spin-coating sol-gel techniques. For deposition of Pd, first a layer of PdCl2 was obtained via a simple drop-drying process by dropping PdCl2 solution onto WO3 substrates and drying them at room temperature. Then Pd nanoparticles were synthesized via hydrogen gas exposure that causes reduction of the PdCl2 layer. According to Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) observations before hydrogen reduction, many individual nanoparticles or fractal-like constructions of palladium were...

Adsorption and dissociation of hydrogen peroxide on small Pd xM3-x (M = Pt, Cu; X = 1-3) clusters: A hybrid density functional study

    , Article Molecular Physics ; Volume 109, Issue 14 , May , 2011 , Pages 1797-1804 ; 00268976 (ISSN) Nahali, M ; Gobal, F ; Arab, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The adsorption and dissociation of H2O2 on small PdxM3-x (M=Pt, Cu; x = 1-3) clusters is investigated using the B3PW91 hybrid density functional method. Natural bond orbitals are analysed to obtain partial charges on atoms, dipole moments, bond orders, and hybrid orbitals of the PdxM3-x-H2O2 systems. The calculated adsorption energies are in the range of -0.32 to -2.12 eV. Generally, H2O2 adsorbs on top positions through one of its oxygen atoms and only in a few cases reacts with the cluster through both oxygen and hydrogen sides. In the latter case the cluster sites which are negatively charged interact with the hydrogen atoms. Interestingly, on the triplet Pd2Pt cluster, H2O2 dissociates...

In both case,...
