, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kouchak Yazdi, Zahra (Author) ; Alemzadeh, Iran (Supervisor) ; Razavi, Jalil (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Fats and oils are one of the main human food diet components that provide the necessary fatty acids for our body. So the fatty acids available in consuming oils are so important. In this research the mixture of palm and sunflower oils with different compounds: (80:20, 60:40, 50:50, 40:60, 20:80) were used for preparing free- trans shortening by interesterification. For this purpose a special stabilized lipase (Lipozyme TLIM) were used and performed the physicochemical properties: free fatty acids, peroxide value, iodine value, slip melting point, solid fat content, P-anisidine value, soap, oxidative stability at 110 0C, and the profile of fatty acids on the primitive blends and final samples...

On the performance of passivr TMDs in reducing the damage in 2-D concrete structural models

    Abstract
Pozzolanic materials, either naturally occurring or artificially made, have long been in practice since the early civilization. In recent years, the utilisation of pozzolanic materials in concrete construction has become increasingly widespread, and this trend is expected to continue in the years ahead because of technological, economical and ecological advantages of the materials. One of the latest additions to the ash family is palm oil fuel ash, a waste material obtained on burning of palm oil husk and palm kernel shell as fuel in palm oil mill boilers, which has been identified as a good pozzolanic material. This paper highlights test results on the performance behavior of palm oil fuel...

Improvement of palm oil and sunflower oil blends by enzymatic interestrification

    , Article International Journal of Food Science and Technology ; Volume 46, Issue 5 , 2011 , Pages 1093-1099 ; 09505423 (ISSN) Yazdi, Z. K ; Alemzadeh, I ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Palm oil (PO) and sunflower oil (SFO) blends with varying proportions were subjected to enzymatic interesterification (EIE) using a 1,3-specific immobilised lipase. The interesterified blends were evaluated for their slip melting point (SMP), solid fat content (SFC) at 10-40°C, p-anisidine value, peroxide value, free fatty acids (FFA), induction period of oxidation at 110°C (IP110) and composition of fatty acids by gas chromatography. Under EIE treatment, the blends of PO and SFO in different proportions (20:80, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40 and 80:20) had saturated and unsaturated fatty acid content in the range of 37.6-52.0% and 48.0-62.4%, respectively. The blends showed a considerable reduction in...

An optimization study of a palm oil-based regional bio-energy supply chain under carbon pricing and trading policies

    Abstract
Biomass residues due to their low bulk density typically require frequent transportation from biomass plantations in rural areas to conversion bio-energy power plants. This issue contrasts with environmental protection strategies, especially when power plants are facing different carbon reduction policies that enforce them to emit less than a given specific carbon amount. Although several researchers have investigated bio-energy supply chains concerning environmental policies, the majority of studies have been devoted to strategic decisions over a single planning period. This paper presents a multi-period bio-energy supply chain under carbon pricing (carbon tax) and carbon trading...

Green biodiesel production from various plant oils using nanobiocatalysts under different conditions

    Abstract
The lipase-immobilized polyethyleneimine (PEI)- and polyacrylic acid (PAA)–coated magnetic silica nanocomposite particles (L-PEI-MS and L-PAA-MS, respectively) were prepared and applied at various transesterification reaction conditions. The reactions were carried out with soybean, sunflower, canola, and palm oils along with methanol or ethanol in the solvent-free and n-hexane systems. The highest fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) and fatty acid ethyl ester (FAEE) synthesis yields were obtained from the transesterification of palm oil, i.e., almost 7.7–10.2% higher than other oils. At the constant reaction conditions, the application of ethanol leads to higher (6.0–8.7%) reaction yields in...

    Abstract
This study aimed to prepare nanoporous anodic alumina on AA3003-H14 aluminum alloy using a mild anodization process with minimal working voltage and treatment time. The microstructural features, mechanical properties, and tribocorrosion behavior of the coatings were assessed to determine the optimum conditions for the fabrication of nanoporous anodic alumina on AA3003-H14 alloy. The microstructural analysis showed both uniform and nonuniform pore nucleations during anodization in H2SO4/C2H2O4, H2SO4/H2CrO4, and EG/H2O/NH4F electrolytes, where the optimal nanoporous structure with an average thickness, porosity, pore diameter, and interpore distance of 382 nm, 19%, 16 nm, and 35 nm,...
