    Abstract
Zinc binding to β-amyloid structure could promote amyloid-β aggregation, as well as reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, as suggested in many experimental and theoretical studies. Therefore, the introduction of multifunctional drugs capable of chelating zinc metal ion and inhibiting Aβ aggregation is a promising strategy in the development of AD treatment. The present study has evaluated the efficacy of a new bifunctional peptide drug using molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. This drug comprises two different domains, an inhibitor domain, obtained from the C-terminal hydrophobic region of Aβ, and a Zn2+ chelating domain, derived from rapeseed meal, merge with a...

    Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an irreversible neurological disorder that progresses gradually and can cause severe cognitive and behavioral impairments. This disease is currently considered a social and economic incurable issue due to its complicated and multifactorial characteristics. Despite decades of extensive research, we still lack definitive AD diagnostic and effective therapeutic tools. Consequently, one of the most challenging subjects in modern medicine is the need for the development of new strategies for the treatment of AD. A large body of evidence indicates that amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide fibrillation plays a key role in the onset and progression of AD. Recent studies have reported...

    Abstract
Objective(s): Hepatitis B virus infection causes chronic disease such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The metabolomics investigations have been demonstrated to be related to pathophysiologic mechanisms in many disorders such as hepatitis B infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the saliva metabolic profile of patients with chronic hepatitis B infection and to identify underlying mechanisms as well as potential biomarkers associated with the disease. Materials and Methods: Saliva from 16 healthy subjects and 20 patients with chronic hepatitis B virus were analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Then, multivariate statistical analysis was performed to identify...

    Abstract
Objective(s): This study aims to evaluate combined proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) metabolic profiling approaches, for discriminating between mustard airway diseases (MADs) and healthy controls and for providing biochemical information on this disease. Materials and Methods: In the present study, analysis of serum samples collected from 17 MAD subjects and 12 healthy controls was performed using NMR. Of these subjects, 14 (8 patients and 6 controls) were analyzed by GC-MS. Then, their spectral profiles were subjected to principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares regression discriminant...

Study and optimization of amino acid extraction by emulsion liquid membrane

    , Article Separation Science and Technology ; Volume 43, Issue 11-12 , 2008 , Pages 3075-3096 ; 01496395 (ISSN) Mohagheghi, E ; Alemzadeh, I ; Vossoughi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
A batch extraction of an essential amino acid, phenylalanine, from an aqueous solution of different concentrations by an Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) was developed using D2EHPA as a cationic carrier, Span 80 as the surfactant, paraffin, and kerosene as the diluents, and HCl as the internal electrolyte. All effective parameters such as the initial pH of the aqueous external phase, the electrolyte concentration in the aqueous internal phase, carrier, and surfactant concentration in the emulsion, the volume ratio of the organic to aqueous internal phase (Roi), the volume ratio of the W/O emulsion to the aqueous external phase (Rew) and time were examined and optimized using the Taguchi...

Design of Novel Drugs Based on Tyrosine and Phenylalanine Amino Acids to Inhibit Cyclin-Dependent Kinases 2 (CDK2) Proteins Modeled on Flavopiridol Drug

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aghili, Farshad (Author) ; Fattahi, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cyclin-dependent kinases 2 (CDK2) are one of the important proteins in cell cycle regulation and progression. In many human cancer cells, the activity of CDK2 kinases and their related subunits are deregulated, leading to tumor formation. Therefore, inhibition of this enzyme as an attractive therapeutic target can cause cancer cell death in glioblastoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Using new pharmaceutical structures based on sugar and amino acids is a new approach due to its greater efficacy and fewer side effects than old drugs. In this research, according to the structure of Flavopiridol as one of the CDK2 inhibitors, the active site of CDK2, and the structure of ATP molecule, 50...
