, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebad, Mehdi (Author) ; Tahami, Farzad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
DC-DC switching convertors are power electronic circuits that have various applications nowadays. Quasi-resonant convertors are a kind of these convertors that are of great interest due to their simple structure and soft switching. The goal of controlling these convertors is to achieve constant output voltage while varying the input voltage and the load by choosing a proper switching frequency. Classic controllers show drawbacks in the case of high input voltage and load tolerance, and this nonlinear behavior of the systems results in some practical challenges. In this thesis, nonlinear predictive controller for quasi-resonant Buck convertors is designed. Having designed the linear...

    Abstract
Increase of sensitive customers to power quality has raised concerns in industries regarding requirements of quality power supply. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) are known as efficient tools in providing reliable power supply to sensitive customer. However, in a UPS, getting a desired output requires appropriate structural implementation and successful output voltage control. On the other hand, due to the increase in sensitive loads in customers, the output power range of UPSs has increased. Consequently, design and producing high power UPSs is not economical. In addition, tendency to have high reliability power supplies disrespect of their physical locations has moved researcher...

To control of this accident, it’s necessary to startup and load backup power supply system (EDGs) for at least one safety channels, if not, the accident moves forwards and becomes S.B.O accident which is more important accident that ends to core damage because of stops working of all...

Analysis of High Voltage Pulsed Power Supply Based on Parallel Modules via Pulse Transformer

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadizade, Amir Abbas (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, pulsed power structures containing a step up high voltage transformer with large transformer ratio are investigated. In pulsed power applications, a step up pulse transformer is a proper choice in the cases in which a low primary voltage is available. The noticeable advantage of employing these transformers is the ability to use several modules in the primary side of the transformer. However, it should be noticed that the primary side current of the transformer is large. So to solve this problem, the number of primary windings could be increased and the primary large current can be shared between these windings. In this thesis, the sharing methods are investigated and the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nazerian, Emad (Author) ; Tahami, Farzad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In creating a telecom battery charger there are three challenging factors which are high power density, high efficiency and modularity. A telecome battery charger consist of a rectifier with power factor correction capability and a DC-DC converter. The power stage of DC-DC converter with high output current and low output voltage has a vital role in the battery charger. The isolation transformer and magnetic component of LLC resonant tank are two huge and heavy parts of the DC-DC converter. With the emergence of GaN and SiC switches pushing frequency to to megahertz is possible which resulted in decreasing the volume of passive divices. But with increasing the frequency, designing of the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jannati, Mohammad Kazem (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
High voltage dc power supplies are commonly used in medical equipment, microwave lamps, X-ray equipment and radio transmission systems. In radio Transmission power supplies the output voltage quality is of great importance and the output voltage ripple must be very low. In addition usage of low frequency transformer and rectifier needs large bulk capacitors to reduce output voltage ripple. Moreover, to reduce energy discharged into load in load short circuit faults the output capacitance should be as low as possible. An approach to solve this problem is to use a diode rectifier and a switching power supply in series configuration. The Advantage is that the switching power supply provides a...

Design and Analysis of a High Voltage Power Supply with Variable Output Voltage

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khakparvar Yazdi, Amin (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
High voltage DC/DC converters are widely used in lasers, microwave tubes supplies, X-ray equipment, medical and industrial applications. Each of these applications have special attention to certain parameters such as output voltage ripple, fast stability, repeatability and accuracy. For power modulation in microwave tubes, the anode-cathode supply need to be varied. Generally such variations needs a high voltage DC supply so that, in a certain frequency each point can be controlled in specific voltage. Anode- cathode current flow is too low (in milliamps scale) so, the load of converter output can be assumed to be zero. The goal of this thesis is to design a DC/DC converter for Variable...

Design and Implement a High Voltage Switching DC Power Supply Based on Voltage Multiplier for High Regulation and Controllable Output Voltage

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Abbas (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
High DC voltage is widely used in many applications such as X-Ray machines ,CRT , photocopy machines and etc. One idea to produce this high DC voltage is to use transformers, but it will be large in volume. We can increase frequency to reduce the volume of transformers but high voltage of primary and secondary winding will limited this volume reduction. Furthermore high turn ratio in transformers increases non idealities that cause voltage and current spike, and increase loss and noise. The main goal of this thesis is to reduce differential mode voltages on transformers to reduce the volume of power supply. Voltage multiplier will be used to reduce differential mode voltage. Voltage...

Applying of Data Fusion Method for Improving the Protection System of the High Voltage DC Power Supply

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ayoubi, Ramin (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Short-circuit fault detection is mandatory in a high voltage DC power supply to prevent fatal damage. The majority of converters employ a single sensor to detect the short-circuit fault. This attribute increases the interference vulnerability of the fault detection system in the presence of noise. Therefore, miss detections and false alarms are possible to occur. Miss detections and false alarms are harmful catastrophes in most applications. A commonly used method to suppress the noise impacts is using a low-bandwidth low-pass filter. However, the use of the low-bandwidth low-pass filter reduces the speed of fault detection due to the filter delay. This paper proposes a fast fault detection...

Analysis and Improvement of Output Voltage Ripple in High Voltage DC Power Supply

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ziaoddini, Mojtaba (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahryar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The TWT is highly sensitive to the ripple amplitude of its power supply output voltage. If the amplitude of the output voltage's ripple exceeds a certain limit, the amplitude of the undesired harmonics in the power spectrum of the TWT is greatly increased. Increasing the amplitude of undesired harmonics in the TWT output power spectrum reduces the accuracy and performance of the TWT. Therefore, for optimum TWT performance, a low-ripple power supply is essential. Typically, a low-frequency rectifier or high-frequency switching structure is used to build a high-voltage DC power supply. In this thesis, the different structures of high voltage DC power supplies are studied. Next, by focusing on...

Analysis of the Effect of High-Power Microwave Tube Internal Fault on High Voltage Power Supply and Protection System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Atharijoo, Esmaeel (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
RF amplifier are one of the most important part of communication industry. microwave tubes are of the most sensitive and expensive parts of such systems, protection measures are of high importance. One of the phenomena that cause failure or degradation of tubes is electric arc in cathode of the tubes and dissipating energy due to that. In order to prevent the tubes from undergoing such harm, protection must be put into consideration. Furthermore, the limit of this dissipating energy determines the capacitor needed at the output of the power supply of the cathode. Since the value of the capacitor is directly proportionate to the amount of ripple of the output voltage, an exact calculation of...

    Abstract
Applications of high voltage power supplies is increasing. Microwave power module is one of the applications. In microwave power module, the dimensions of the power supply are very important. On the other hand, the parasitic elements of the transformer of a high voltage power supply are significant because of high insulation distances and transformer high turn ratio. These elements including stray capacitance and leakage inductance change the converter behavior. In this thesis, a method for dimensional efficient design of high voltage power supply used in microwave power module is presented considering and analyzing the transformer parasitic elements. Beforehand, at first, the transformer...

Reliability Improvement of the High Voltage Power Supply Based on Interleaved Inverters

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keshtkar Teeula, Afshin (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In some high voltage applications it is necessary for high voltage power supply (HVPS) to operate over a wide load and gain range. For instance a HVPS may be used to supply various microwave tubes. Our goal in this thesis is to design a HVPS which can provide a DC voltage between 0-15 KV and 0-5 KW. In convetional approaches, operating over wide load and gain range necessitates the switching frequency or duty cycle to swing over a wide range. This approach may disturb soft switching, consequently switching loss will increase. The control process will be more complex too. the wide swing range of switching frequency means that the HVPS needs to operate with low switching frequency too....
