Data mining on partial discharge signals of power transformer's defect models

    , Article 2010 45th International Universities' Power Engineering Conference, UPEC 2010, Cardiff, 31 August 2010 through 3 September 2010 ; 2010 ; 9780956557025 (ISBN) Darabad, V. P ; Vakilian, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Partial discharge (PD) is a common phenomenon which occurs in insulation of high voltage equipments, such as; transformers and has a damaging effect on the insulation. If data mining techniques be used to find specifications and features of different types of partial discharges in power transformers, one can monitor the insulation condition of such equipment online and continuously. Those results can be employed to develop preventive measures more exactly and consequently the maintenance would require less time and cost for electric utility and improve the life time expectancy of the transformers. In this paper experiments are set up to create models for some types of PD that occurs in Power...

Resilient approach toward urban development in lake catchments; case of Lake Urmia

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 23, Issue 4 , 2016 , Pages 1627-1632 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Ahmadi, A ; Abbaspour, M ; Arjmandi, R ; Abedi, Z ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The climate change and human development in lake catchments have put these habitats in drying conditions, e.g. Aral Sea in Asia, Lake Chad in Africa, Lake Mead in USA, Lake Urmia in Iran, etc. These ecosystems play an important role in social, ecological, and economic activities. Lake Urmia, recognized as an international wetland in 1973 and located in Iran, which is the second largest hypersaline lake in the world, is in the same state. Lake Urmia biologically and ecologically is one of the most interesting places in the world. This lake is a habitat for various species. The lake's surface has shrunken from 6000 km2 to 900 km2 in 2013. The statistics indicate that the population has...

A Vacuum arc diagnosis method for the high voltage power supply of vacuum tubes

    , Article 2019 International Vacuum Electronics Conference, IVEC 2019, 28 April 2019 through 1 May 2019 ; 2019 ; 9781538675342 (ISBN) Ayoubi, R ; Rahmanian, M ; Kaboli, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Vacuum tubes are widely used for various applications. These vacuum tubes are supplied by high voltage power supplies. The amount of delivered energy from the high voltage power supply to the vacuum tube is an important issue during the vacuum arc in the tube. The protection mechanism consists of a shunt crowbar which diverts the fault current from the tube to itself as a parallel path. Detection of the vacuum arc is crucial and only one sensor is usually employed to detect the vacuum arc. This characteristic intensifies the interference susceptibility of the vacuum arc diagnosis system in a noisy environment. As a result of the noise, the arc detection system can report false alarms. False...
