    Abstract
Chiral recognition has long been a challenging issue to deal with in biological systems, drug design and food authentication. Implementing nanoparticle-based probes with intrinsic or induced chirality in this field has addressed several issues concerning sensitivity, reliability, rapidness and the cost of chiral sensing platforms. Yet, research into chiral nanoprobes that can be used for visual monitoring of chiral substances is still in its infancy. As part of this study, a visual chiral recognition platform has been developed in which a combination of blue-emitting carbon dots (BCDs) and mercaptopropionic acid-capped CdTe quantum dots (MPA-QDs) with inherent chiroptical activity were...

    Abstract
Sulfur quantum dots (SQDs) were fabricated using a facile hydrothermal method and used for the preparation of functional food packaging film and compared the properties with other sulfur-based fillers like elemental sulfur (ES) and sulfur nanoparticles (SNP). The SQDs have an average size of 5.3 nm and were very stable in aqueous suspension. Unlike other sulfur-based fillers, the SQD showed high antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal activity, but no cytotoxicity was found for L929 mouse fibroblasts even after long-term exposure of 48 h. When sulfur-based fillers were added to the alginate film, SQD was more evenly dispersed in the polymer matrix than SNP and ES. The addition of SQD to...

    Abstract
The majority of lateral flow assays (LFAs) use single-color optical labels to provide a qualitative naked-eye detection, however this detection method displays two important limitations. First, the use of a single-color label makes the LFA prone to results misinterpretation. Second, it does not allow the precise modulation of the sensitivity and dynamic range of the test. To overcome these limitations, a ratiometric approach is developed. In particular, using anti-HIgG functionalized red-fluorescent quantum dots on the conjugate pad (as target dependent labels) and blue-fluorescent nanoparticles fixed on the test line (as target independent reporters), it is possible to generate a wide color...

    Abstract
A ratiometric fluorescent nanoprobe is developed with a wide color variation for visual determination of spermine (SP) and spermidine (SD) in meat samples. The green emission provided from the combination of yellow emissive quantum dots and blue emissive carbon dots turns into pink when SP or SD are present. The results show that the developed sensor has good linearity in the range of 0.5–10 and 0.5–80 µM for SP and SD and suitable detection limits were achieved including 0.2 and 2.1 µM for SP and SD. The probe was highly selective in the presence of amino acids and other biogenic amines. RGB indices were extracted to build a combinational logic gate for visual and simultaneous detection of...

    Abstract
The type of passivating ligands and the ligand exchange method influence the quality of lead sulfide quantum dot films. This imparts on the efficiency of optoelectronic devices. To get a compact arrangement of the nanocrystals in a thin film (⁓100 nm) via self-assembling, we used organic-inorganic perovskites with mixed halides for the solid-state exchange of oleic acid ligands on PbS QDs (⁓ 4 nm). Formamidinium lead halides FAPbIxBr3-x (x= 3,2,1,0) were used. X-ray spectroscopy shows that successful replacement of oleic acid with FA happens by short immersion of the films (2 min) in the solution. Transmission electron microscopy shows that nano-scale cracks, short-range ordering, and fusion...

Designing Z2 and Z2× Z2 topological orders in networks of Majorana bound states

    , Article Physical Review B ; Volume 105, Issue 16 , 2022 ; 24699950 (ISSN) Mohammadi, F ; Kargarian, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Topological orders have been intrinsically identified in a class of systems such as fractional quantum Hall states and spin liquids. Accessing such states often requires extreme conditions such as low temperatures, high magnetic fields, pure samples, etc. Another approach would be to engineer the topological orders in systems with more accessible ingredients. In this work, we present networks of Majorana bound states, which are currently accessible in semiconductor nanowires proximitized to conventional superconductors, and show that the effective low-energy theory is topologically ordered. We first demonstrate the main principles in a lattice made of Kitaev superconducting chains comprising...

    Abstract
The α-FAPbI3 perovskite nanocrystals exhibit interesting optical properties, which make them attractive for versatile optoelectronic applications; however, the spontaneous phase transformation to the non-perovskite phase (δ-FAPbI3) in humid conditions requires a new strategy to improve the phase stability of the material. We employed 3-Aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES)-assisted reprecipitation and sol-gel methods at ambient temperature to prepare stable α-FAPbI3 nanocrystals embedded in a silica matrix. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction analysis determined that ultrafine perovskite nanocrystals (11.5 ± 3 nm) were uniformly distributed in a silica matrix....

    Abstract
Discrimination of chiral targets is generally achieved with chiral nanomaterials. However, the limited number of intrinsic chiral nanostructures as well as their complex synthesis procedure has led to the production of chirality-induced nanomaterials as alternatives. Chirality can be induced in nanomaterials by either chirality transfer or the formation of chiral assemblies. Using the latter approach, in this work, we have provided chiral supramolecular assemblies of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) from achiral starting materials. CTAB-QD assemblies showed chiroptical activities, and their orange emission in combination with the blue emission of carbon dots was utilized as a ratiometric chiral...

    Abstract
In this work, a simple method to prepare white light emissive diodes based on quantum dot (QD) colloidal solutions using mixed carbon QDs (CQDs) and CsPbI3 perovskite (PQDs) is reported. The right combination generates emission across the entire visible spectrum upon ultraviolet excitation. The white light emission of the final films provides high and stable color rendering index of 92%, tuning the chromaticity coordinates of the emission through the applied voltage. By varying the CsPbI3 QD concentration, a mixture is obtained that emits the “warm”, “neutral”, and “cold” white light sought for many indoor lighting applications, or to approximate the visible region of the solar spectrum,...
