Evaluation of Phase Comparison DOA Estimation Methods in Multipath Environments for Millimeter Waves

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Parisa (Author) ; Farzaneh, Forouhar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main objective of this project is to discuss a DOA estimation system performance in a multipath environment. For this goal, first the basics of the DOA Estimation systems are discussed. Evaluation of different types of algorithms and choosing an appropriate one is an important step in this regard. Moreover the comparison of different array structures is necessary to choose the appropriate one. The major part of the project has been dedicated to discussion of multipath phenomenon as a major source of error in DOA estimation and studying the multipath mitigation algorithms to eliminate the aforementioned error. A model based on the concept of Bistatic Radar Cross Section is proposed to...

Array Geometry Based Beamforming in Smart Antennas Intended for Capacity Improvment in Wireless Systems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Poormohammad, Sarah (Author) ; Farzaneh, Forouhar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Novel two dimensional and three dimensional antenna array geometries for smart antenna application are introduced. MMSE beamforming algorithm, using these arrays, in presence of signal, noise and interferences is implemented. Beamforming approach is used for every type of array assuming uniform and log-normal distributions for the interference amplitudes. Equal volume cylindrical or prism type arrays with circular, hexagonal, triangular, square and star cross sections with equal number of elements are considered for comparison. Novel geometries consisting of rotated cross sections are studied as well. In each case the relative SIR’s are compared in these geometries, showing that the...

Two dimensional sensing for cognitive radio applications using antenna array

    , Article APMC 2009 - Asia Pacific Microwave Conference 2009, 7 December 2009 through 10 December 2009, Singapore ; 2009 , Pages 2777-2780 ; 9781424428021 (ISBN) Vahidpoor, Z ; Forooragh, K ; Ahmadi, A. F ; Atlasbaf, Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Fast, accurate and efficient sensing is of important aspects in cognitive radio technology. We propose a simple, practical design for two-dimensional sensing in spectral and spatial domain. In fact detection and localization of signal are done in a wide band elliptical array. Two sets of phase differences help to fast calculation of frequency and angle of arrival. We study the constraints, advantages and accuracy of the method. ©2009 IEEE

    Abstract
in this paper detection and the accuracy of measurement of range, velocity and DOA in PCL radar for optimized parameters is considered. It is shown that, in order to measure the bistatic characteristics of a target, we can process the monostatic ambiguity function and extract the bistatic factors by proposed Algorithm. ©2006 IEEE

Precision of direction of arrival (DOA) estimation using novel three dimensional array geometries

    , Article AEU - International Journal of Electronics and Communications ; Volume 75 , 2017 , Pages 35-45 ; 14348411 (ISSN) Poormohammad, S ; Farzaneh, F

    Abstract
Numerous methods for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation, used in smart antennas have been already reported in previous studies. The precision of DOA estimation depends on the choice of the algorithm and the geometrical configuration of the antenna array. In this work, the performance of new geometrical configurations, i.e. 2D with equal area and 3D with equal volume including circular, square, triangular, hexagonal and star geometries, with equal number of antenna elements, are examined and compared to each other to find the most proper geometry. Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to evaluate the DOA precision of the proposed arrays using the MUSIC algorithm. It is shown that in three...

Direction-of-arrival estimation for temporally correlated narrowband signals

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing ; Volume 57, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 600-609 ; 1053587X (ISSN) Haddadi, F ; Nayebi, M. M ; Aref, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Signal direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation using an array of sensors has been the subject of intensive research and development during the last two decades. Efforts have been directed to both, better solutions for the general data model and to develop more realistic models. So far, many authors have assumed the data to be independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) samples of a multivariate statistical model. Although this assumption reduces the complexity of the model, it may not be true in certain situations where signals show temporal correlation. Some results are available on the temporally correlated signal model in the literature. The temporally correlated stochastic Cramér-Rao...

    Abstract
There are inherent errors in target location and velocity measurement caused by bistatic geometry in addition to the errors that are caused in monostotic radars. In this paper, the accuracy of measurement with respect to some parameters like baseline variance and DOA estimation is considered and bistatic parameters sensitivity with respect together is formulated
