, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi, Rahman (Author) ; Abbaspour, Majid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The growing requirements for renewable energy production lead to the development of a new series of systems, including wave and tidal energy conversion systems. Due to their sensitivity and the impact of the aggressive marine environment, the selection of the most adequate location for these systems is a major and very important task. Several factors, such as technological limitations, environmental conditions, administrative and logistic conditions, have to be taken into account in order to support the decision for best location. The aim of the present study is to provide an Atlas of IRAN Offshore Renewable Energy Resources (hereafter called ‘the Atlas’) to map out wave and tidal resources...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seifollahi, Ali (Author) ; Abbaspour, Majid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, because high global demand for energy has led to the extensive use of fossil fuels with numerous unintended consequences such as air pollution and greenhouse effect, research and development around optimization of energy infrastructure has become much more important. Consequently, many scientific approaches have been applied to replace fossil fuels with renewable natural energy resources. One of the renewable energy types that fewer papers have been published about it, is the enormous energy of Marine currents. , M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimzadeh, Azin (Author) ; Shafiee, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor) ; Roshandel, Ramin (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Ever-increasing energy consumption and consequent extensive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are two major urgent problems faced by all human beings in the 21st century. As a major contributor, the energy production section appears to be the most suitable field where further improvements could be explored to tackle these problems. Multi carrier energy system is a typical type of next generation energy production technology with higher energy efficiency and lower/zero GHG emissions. The conversion of energy between different carriers establishes a coupling of the corresponding power flows resulting in system interactions. The investigation of such phenomena requires the development of tools for...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Choubineh, Kianoosh (Author) ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, Mahmoud (Supervisor) ; Rajabi-Ghahnavieh, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In conventional planning methods for an isolated microgrid, loads’s performance is taken into account in a constant power factor. Also, Motor loads dynamics which might results in absorbing a reactive power up to a few times more than the load’s capacity isn’t considered in this methods. Another important issue in the microgrid’s stability is the microgrid’s spinning reserve. Due to the isolated microgrid’s disconnectivity and not considering these problems in small isolated microgrids, the possibility of an instability event in microgrid’s performance would rise enourmously. In this thesis, an isolated microgrid’s planning has been carried out based on a solar resource while taking into...

FRP is the ramp capability of market participants which is reserved to cover the uncertainty and variability of net load (load minus intermittent supply) at next market time-interval of real-time market. With this in mind, the energy storage...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahbazi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Eshghi, Kourosh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays the popularity of renewable energy is increasing due to its clean and inexhaustible nature. Also, if the local potential of each area is used, there is no cost to connect to electricity network. But these energies have low reliability due to their oscillating nature. To solve this problem, it is proposed to use systems based on several sources of energy called hybrid systems. In this research, a mathematical model is proposed to design a renewable hybrid system that minimizes the present value of costs while maximizing system’s reliability. To consider the uncertainty in the solar radiation data and energy demand, Bertsimas’s robust model is applied to our model. In which variables...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi-Arpanahi, Sahand (Author) ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the challenges which increasing penetration of renewable energy sources with variable generation brings is the need for more flexibility in the power system. A promising way to overcome the challenge is to have local sources of the flexibility in distribution level. To this end, we present a new model for multi-stage distribution system expansion planning which jointly considers expanding the network assets and increasing the flexibility at local level by installing conventional dispatchable distributed generator units and energy storage systems. Demand response is also considered as another source of the flexibility which can be utilized by the system operator. Since deviating from...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Helalat, Zeynab (Author) ; Tabeshpour, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Offshore wind energy is widely recognized as a renewable energy source that has the potential as a global energy source. Although the use of coastal wind turbines has been successful, it has been challenged in terms of visual, acoustic and environmental impacts. In addition, in terms of technology, it is difficult to achieve high levels of energy from coastal wind resources due to low annual average speed; Therefore, the wind energy industry is trying to make more use of the deep-water wind resources. However, before developing these types of deep-water turbines, economic challenges and technical problems must be resolved. Mooring failure is one of the major issues in the design of offshore...

    Abstract
Renewable resources, because of their compatibility with the environment, accessibility, and low cost of operation, have become the center of unprecedented attention. Since the output of these resources cannot be predicted accurately, they are usually implemented in microgrids with conventional generating units and energy storage systems.Furthermore, distribution networks are integral parts of power systems, and many studies have been conducted in order to improve them. Because of high investment and operation costs of distribution networks and environmental concerns, it is necessary to conduct meticulous economic studies so that with proper investments, profitable opportunities are provided...
