The following work focuses on minimizing the energy loss by optimizing the size and the operating conditions of an electrolyzer directly connected to a photovoltaic (PV) module at different irradiance. The hydrogen, in the proposed system, is produced using a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer. A nonlinear method is considered, because of the complexity of...

Pricing of Vehicle-to-Grid Services in a Microgrid by Nash Bargaining Theory

    , Article Mathematical Problems in Engineering ; Volume 2017 , 2017 ; 1024123X (ISSN) Sarparandeh, M. H ; Ehsan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Hindawi Publishing Corporation  2017
    Abstract
Owners of electric vehicles (EVs) can offer the storage capacity of their batteries to the operator of a microgrid as a service called vehicle-to-grid (V2G) to hold the balance between supply and demand of electricity, particularly when the microgrid has intermittent renewable energy sources. Literature review implies that V2G has economic benefits for both microgrid operator and EV owners, but it is unclear how these benefits are divided between them. The challenge grows when the policy makers rely on the V2G revenue as an incentive for expanding the penetration of EVs in the automotive market. This paper models the interaction between microgrid operator and EV owners as a bargaining game...

    Abstract
Million miles of gravity-fed drinking water and sewage pipelines around the world, especially in rural and urban areas in mountain ranges, have introduced a new renewable energy sources (RES), i.e., in-pipe hydropower systems (IHS). Output power of this technology, similar to other types of RES, suffers from intermittency, while it is still more predictable in comparison to other technologies of RESs. Besides, energy storage systems (ESS) are introduced as a pivotal technology for dealing with the intermittent and non-dispatchable characteristics of IHS through spatio-temporal arbitrage. This paper aims to develop a stochastic mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) formulation that...

Optimal generalized bayesian nash equilibrium of frequency-constrained electricity market in the presence of renewable energy sources

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy ; Volume 11, Issue 1 , 2020 , Pages 136-144 Rayati, M ; Toulabi, M ; Ranjbar, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2020
    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of frequency-constrained electricity market (FCEM) is modeled in the presence of renewable energy sources (RESs) and price-maker players by using equilibrium problem with equilibrium constraints formulation. It is worth mentioning that due to the intermittency of RESs, the FCEM problem in the presence of price-maker players becomes more imperative as stability of power system frequency is a public good and the free-rider problem arises. Moreover, as players of FCEM do not know their rivals' objective functions, the problem is modeled based on Bayesian game theory. The FCEM problem is converted into a game of complete but imperfect information under the common prior...

    Abstract
Presence of microgrids (MGs) and renewable energy sources (RESs) in distribution power systems could result in dramatic changes in operation and planning of these systems. In this regard, operational procedures employed by utilities should take into account the intermittent nature of RESs, while coping with the independent operation of MGs. In this perspective, this paper develops a distributed power management framework based on alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) for distribution networks with multi-MG (MMG) structures. The proposed approach develops a transactive signal in the context of ADMM to coordinate operation of MGs in a distributed manner. In this context, the...

    Abstract
Restructuring and privatization in power systems have resulted in a fundamental transition of conventional distribution systems into modern multi-agent systems. In these structures, each agent of the distribution system would independently operate its local resources. In this regard, uncertainties associated with load demands and renewable energy sources could challenge the operational scheduling conducted by each agent. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a distributed operational management for multi-agent distribution systems taking into account the uncertainties of each agent. The developed framework relies on alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) to coordinate the...

    Abstract
This paper provides a general methodology for evaluating the reliability of microgrids embedding conventional and renewable energy sources (RESs), as well as energy storage systems (ESSs). The developed reliability assessment model is then leveraged to investigate the impact of different resource scheduling methods on the reliability. The technique applied in this article to assess microgrid reliability is based on the sequential Monte Carlo simulation. In this approach, the coincidence of faults is considered, aside from the annual generation pattern of RESs, i.e., wind and photovoltaic, and the network load profiles. For the sake of considering priority of the microgrid loads, two...

    Abstract
Due to the devastating ecological effects and constrained reserves of fossil fuels, renewable energies are now globally accepted as viable alternative sources of energy. Among renewable energy sources, wind energy has become globally popular, primarily because wind farms can be rapidly built and easily maintained at a relatively low cost. Wind-powered hydrogen production is an effective solution for storing the excess energy output of wind farms. The hydrogen produced in this way can be used not only in fuel cells but also in cooling, oil, gas, and petrochemical fields. As a country devastated by war and instability, Afghanistan has major energy generation challenges and a substantially...

    Abstract
Energy storage systems (ESSs) play a vital role in dealing with uncertainties originated from the intermittent power generation of renewable energy sources (RESs) leading to improvement of flexibility and reliability of power systems. Needless to say, a key factor is selecting the best technology of ESSs which yields to maximum leverage of ESSs presence in power systems. On this basis, in this paper, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) direct-optimization model is proposed to effectively mitigate the impacts of insufficient transmission lines capacities by installation of different ESS technologies using a DC optimal power flow model. Firstly, a precise model for the technical...
