    Abstract
    In this work, the thermomechanical responses during the dissimilar friction stir welding of aluminum alloys have been evaluated employing a three-dimensional model and the finite element software ABAQUS. Furthermore, welding experiments have been conducted under different working conditions and the temperature variations during and after welding as well as the produced residual stresses in various positions of the welded samples were measured using hole-drilling technique. The model results were then examined by experimental data, and a reasonable agreement was observed.     Abstract
    Dissimilar friction stir welds of aluminum alloys AA5086 in annealed and AA6061 in T6 temper conditions were investigated in terms of residual stress, grain structure and precipitation distribution in different zones of the welded joints. Optical metallography and transmission electron microscopy were used to characterize microstructures of different zones of the welds. In addition, residual stress profile and local mechanical properties of different zones were evaluated employing X-ray diffraction method and digital image correlation technique.     Residual stresses, created in a steel beam by elastic-plastic bending, are predicted using an approximate analysis and the finite element method. The predictions are compared to experimental measurements obtained from the application of incremental centre hole drilling, deep hole drilling and neutron diffraction methods.     Abstract
    Shot peening is one of the most effective surface treatments for improving the fatigue strength of machine elements. In this paper, a new finite element-based model to predict the effect of coverage on the surface state is proposed and critically discussed. By this model, the effects of Rayleigh damping, mesh size, and target dimensions on residual stress profile are investigated using a random impingement simulation of shot peening.     In this work, a comprehensive study of radial forging process is presented through 2-D axisymmetric and 3-D finite element simulations while considering internal tube profile. The tube used in this investigation has four internal helical grooves along its length. The material is modeled with the elastic-plastic behavior, and sliding-sticking friction model is utilized to model the die-workpiece and mandrel-workpiece contacts.
