    , Article Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry ; Volume 16, Issue 4 , April , 2012 , Pages 1643-1650 ; 14328488 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Ghorbani Bidkorbeh, F ; Mohammadi, A ; Dinarvand, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A mixture of multi-walled carbon nanotube/graphite paste electrode modified with a salophen complex of cobalt was prepared and was applied for the study of the electrochemical behavior of 6-mercaptopurine (MP) using cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). An excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of MP was achieved, which led to a considerable lowering in the anodic overpotential and remarkable increase in the response sensitivity in comparison with unmodified electrode. Utilizing DPV method, a linear dynamic range of 1-100 μM with detection limit of 0.1 μM was obtained in phosphate buffer of pH 3.0. The electrochemical detection system was very stable, and the...

Spectroscopic and thermodynamic studies of interaction between dopamine and cobalt (III) schiff-base complexes

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 16, Issue 2 C , 2009 , Pages 89-93 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Baniyaghoob, S ; Boghaei, D. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, the interactions of cobalt(III) tetradentate Schiff-base complexes, [Co(S-MeO-salophen)]ClO4, (1), [Co(5-NO 2-salophen)]ClO4, (2), and [Co(5-Br-salophen)]ClO 4, (3), with dopamine, an important neurotransmitter, have been investigated. The formation and kinetic constants for complex formation of [Co(3-MeO-salophen)]ClO4, (1), with dopamine were determined spectrophotometrically in H2O/EtOH solution (4:1) at 30°C by using the Benesi-Hildbrand and Guggenheim equations, respectively. The stoichiometry has been found to be 1:1. The rate and equilibrium constants for the coordination of dopamine to (Co(3-MeO-salophen)]ClO4 were found to be 0.0053 min-1 and 1600 dm3 mol-1,...

    Abstract
The preparation and electrochemical performance of the carbon nanotube-paste electrode modified with salophen complexes of cobalt(III) perchlorate, with various substituents on the salophen ligand, as well as their electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is investigated. Several Schiff base complexes containing various nucleophilic and electrophilic functional groups were prepared, and their electrochemical characteristics for the electro-oxidation of NAC were evaluated using cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry (CV and DPV). The results revealed, the modified electrodes show an efficient and selective electrocatalytic activity toward the anodic...

Carbon paste electrode incorporating multi-walled carbon nanotube/cobalt salophen for sensitive voltammetric determination of tryptophan

    , Article Sensors and Actuators, B: Chemical ; Volume 123, Issue 2 , 2007 , Pages 942-949 ; 09254005 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Fotouhi, L ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A modified carbon paste electrode is prepared by incorporating multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and cobalt salophen (CoSal). A mixture of fine graphite powder with 10 wt% of MWCNT is applied for the preparation of carbon paste (by dispersing in Nujol) and finally modified with CoSal. The electrocatalytic oxidation of tryptophan (Trp) is investigated on the surface of the MWCNT/CoSal-modified electrode using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Using the modified electrode, the kinetics of the electro-oxidation of Trp is considerably enhanced, by lowering the anodic overpotential through a catalytic fashion. The mechanism of electrochemical behavior of Trp at...

    Abstract
The electrocatalytic oxidation of cephalexin and cefazolin has been studied at a carbon paste electrode modified with cobalt salophen (CoSal) by cyclic voltammetry. The selectivity of the carbon paste modified with CoSal in detecting cephalexin and cefazolin was examined. To suggest the electrocatalytic mechanism for electro-oxidation of cefazolin, the electrochemical behavior of ceftriaxone was investigated which has a thiol group out of the beta lactam ring. The electrocatalytic oxidation of these antibiotics is shown to be irreversible at the CoSal modified electrode. Scan rate dependence of cefazolin, which is a sulfur-containing compound, has been examined. The results indicated that...

Cobalt salophen-modified carbon-paste electrode incorporating a cationic surfactant for simultaneous voltammetric detection of ascorbic acid and dopamine

    Abstract
A carbon-paste electrode (CPE) is modified by incorporating cobalt-5-nitrosalophen (CoNSal) and tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOAB). The mechanism of electrocatalytic oxidation of dopamine (DA) and ascorbic acid (AA) at the surface of the CoNSal-modified CPE containing various percents of TOAB is thoroughly investigated by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry. In solutions of pH 5.0, in which all studies are performed, DA exists as the positively charged species whereas AA is mainly as the neutral form. Therefore, the favorable ionic interaction (electrostatic repulsion) between the cationic form of DA and the cationic surfactant (TOA+) caused increasing the overvoltage for DA and...

    Abstract
Electrocatalytic oxidation of penicillamine (PA) at a carbon paste electrode chemically modified with cobalt salophen as a schiff base complex (CoSal) was thoroughly investigated. The results of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and polarization studies were used for the prediction of the mechanism of electrochemical oxidation of PA mediated with CoSal at the surface of a modified electrode. The performance of the modified electrode was compared with those of electrodes modified with cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc). In comparison, CoSal appears to be considerably more effective as a catalyst for reduction of the overpotential of the anodic oxidation of PA, resulting in a very sharp anodic CV peak at...
