Investigating and Explaining Dr. Golshani’s Points of View about Religious Science

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mosavi, Zahra (Author) ; Hassani, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Entrance of secular science to Muslim societies has made them face a duality. That is because, on the one hand, they like to preserve their religious values; and on the other, prevalence of secular ideas prevents people from being committed to such values. Therefore, some Islamic scholars proposed religious science as opposed to Western secular science as a remedy to this crisis In case of religious science, explanatory model has the highest position, but disagreement over how to combine experimental and religious characteristics has led to different models in this area. One of the explanatory models of religious knowledge is that of Doctor Mehdi Golshani which has received due attention at...

    Abstract
In addition to the successes of modern science and technology in helping humanity, science has brought harmful effects ,which has led to criticisms from different domains such ethics, religion, politics, philosophy , etc. Nicholas Maxwell as an Emeritus Reader in the Philosophy of Science has shown , in several of his works, the harmful byproducts of science, and has proposed some ideas for bring about a revolution in the philosophy of science. His main thesis is to change the academic and non-academic aim of works, from knowledge to wisdom. In summary, his concerns are: inappropriate metaphysical presuppositions concerning the comprehensibility of our universe, attention to rational...

The Role of Conventionals(Itibaryat) in Philosophy of Science

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Darvish Aghajani, Javad (Author) ; Golshani, Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to different interpretations of the philosophy of science schools, scientific knowledge, is responsible for explanation, description, control and prediction of material phenomena and their relationships. But these facts, besides their real aspects, which can be observed and found by episteme, have a conventional side. The conventional aspect of science is rules and contracts which are obtained from the facts you can find by techne. Although conventionals can be traced back to the division of science into theoretical and practical by Aristotle and other Hellenistic philosophers, but in this century Islamic philosophers especially, Tatbayee paid more attention to this topic. This...

Using Complex Network Metrics for Evaluating the Influence of Conference and Journal Papers in Computer Science

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Habibi, Fatemeh (Author) ; Jalili, Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Journals and conferences in computer science are the major venue for publishing new achievement in the field. It is an expert opinion that a number of top conferences in computer science are even more important than journals. In this work we aim at studying this in terms of citation analysis. To this end, we took 100 top journals and 63 top conferences and extracted their citation graph through Scopus dataset. We then constructed the citation graph in which the nodes were the journals and conferences and the links corresponded to the citations of the papers. We used various measures to rank the nodes in the graph. The ranking methods included Prestige, PageRank, Eigenfactor, HITS and SALSA....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology (Author) ; Golshani, M (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Most of local thinkers ,who were influenced by Western philosophers of science, and have spoken about religious knowledge, have selected experimental science as standard science and Have tried to find a way trough cultural and other non-scientific channels of science to influence the field of human knowledge by religious teaching's .This expert's are generally opposed to positivist’s models of science, but because of the nature of the Western atmosphere that they breathe, consider the experimental science as the main model of knowledge and the experience as the main method of Acquisition of knowledge. Paya is also one of this thinkers who is influenced by Karl Popper's ideas about the...

Designing an Efficient Algorithm for Group Recommender Systems based
    on Group Profile

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Morshedi Lahvas, Mojde (Author) ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recommender Systems have become an attractive field within the recent decade since they facilitate users’ selection process in limited time. Conventional recommender systems have proposed numerous methods with a focus on recommending to individual users. Recently, due to a significant increase in the number of users, studies in this field have shifted to properly identify groups of people with similar preferences and provide a list of recommendations for each group. Because, offering a recommendations list to each individual undergoes computational cost and sometimes is not possible. So far, most of the previous studies requires the restrictive assumptions such as: (1) limited number of...

Development of a Meta-heuristic Algorithm based on Chemotherapy Science

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Salmani, Mohammad Hassan (Author) ; Eshghi, Kourosh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Among scientific fields of study, mathematical programming has high status and its importance has led researchers to develop accurate models and effective solving approaches to addressing optimization problems. In particular, meta-heuristic algorithms are approximate methods for solving optimization problems whereby good (not necessarily optimum) solutions can be generated via their implementation. In this study, we propose a population-based meta-heuristic algorithm according to chemotherapy method to cure cancers that mainly search the infeasible region. As in chemotherapy, Chemotherapy Science Algorithm (CSA) tries to kill inappropriate solutions (cancers and bad cells of the human body);...

Rationality of Scientific Knowledge From the Point of View of Feyerabend

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zali, Farshid (Author) ; ZibaKalam, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Feyerabend was a philosopher of science that became famous for his purportedly anarchistic view of science and his rejection of the existence of universal methodological rules and rationality of science. Feyerabend’s view of science can be summarize in a few points; 1. On the issue of falsifiability, Feyerabend argues that no theory is ever consistent with all the relevant facts. He sees the use of ad-hoc postulates to save the dominant paradigm as an essential to the progress of science. He claims that scientists frequently depart completely from the scientific method when they use ad-hoc ideas to explain observations that are only later justified by theory. To Feyerabend, ad-hoc...

Role of Spirit in the Formation of Knowledge in Terms of Transcendent Wisdom

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohseni, Hossein (Author) ; Hosseini, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of issues of human in this time is questions about epistemology. Human sometimes faced with this qustion that "Is it any knowledge for human being". Sometime he or she answers this question: yes and search for any knowledge around him or her. In the context of philosophy of science these question are very imortant. In philosophy of science one of major question is how many of factors in science is subjective and how many is objective? It is obvious that one of solution to answer this question is investigation of factors that construct the knowledege. Furthermore in this thesis I try to answer that question in context of Hikmat' Motealieh. In this context all of factors that involved in...

Critical Realism and Futures Studies: the Influence of Roy Bhaskar on Sohail Inayatullah

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bahari, Mojtaba (Author) ; Mousavi, Mirsaeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Sohail Inayatullah is one of the most successful futurists of the last decade. His proposed method for futures studies, which is called Causal Layered Analysis (CLA), has attracted a lot of attention and has won futurists’ admiration. Although, Wendell Bell counts the study of epistemological foundations of futures studies as one of the major purposes in this field, unfortunately, no significant attempt has been made to clarify the epistemological foundation of CLA, up to this time. The primary purpose of this thesis is to relieve this weakness. Inayatullah calls his approach, in developing CLA, “critical”. On the other hand, Wendell Bell claims that Roy Bhaskar’s “critical realism” is an...

Readout and Study on the Position of Empirical Survey in Social Sciences; Based on Roy Bhaskar’s Ideas

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Foroozande, Marzieh (Author) ; Afrough, Emad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Methodology has always one of important issues in philosophy of science; especially in social sciences lots of challenges arise from this field. Each of positivistic and relativistic different schools, on their own ontology about human and society, had suggested different methods of social studies. Roy Bhaskar, as the others, offers a model for scientific method, on the base of his own critical realistic ontological principles; and tries to secure his model from the objections on previous models of scientific method. In this model, hi suppose empirical survey as an obvious and undoubted activity in science. Then, he transcendentally derives his ontological principles from this antecedent,...

Analysis of Functional Brain Connectivity Using EEG Signals for Classification of Brain States

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghodsi, Saeed (Author) ; Karbalai Aghajan, Hamid (Supervisor) ; Mohamadzadeh, Hoda ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
    Abstract
Different perceptual, cognitive, and emotional situations results in a kind of information flow in the brain by means of coordinated neuronal oscillations. Analysing these oscillations, especially synchronizations of different brain regions, can illustrate the brain response to the aforementioned situations. In the literature, connectivity between brain regions is divided into the three groups of structural, effective, and functional, s.t. the first one referes to the connectivity between nearby regions, while the second and third ones focus on the synchronization of oscillations of arbitrary located regions. Although EEG is not the best choice for analyzing functional connectivity between...

Philosophical Approach of Slamic Thinkers Toward Technology Explanation and Critique Ayatollah Khameneie, Ayatollah Motahari and Dr. Nasr Attituude

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Namazi, Mohammad (Author) ; Hosseini, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Technology is one of the most important aspects of human life at the present time. It can be said that there is no part of human life that is not affected by technology, that is, the most important aspects of human life, namely economic, social and political issues, are independent of technological technology and technology. Technology is not independent of the social systems in which they are formed. In such a situation, one can expect from Islam as a religion claiming human guidance in the most important aspects of life, which can not be ignored by technology and its place in human life, and can provide a way to interact. Human and technology and technology development in the community. In...

On Possibility of Alternative Technology (Considering Andrew Feinberg’s Theory)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haqiqat, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Hosseini Sarvary, Hasan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Considering the undeniable role of technology in modern era, we investigate both the concept of technology as well as its relation as a tool with human beings. Modern technologies have had both positive and negative impact on human individual and social lives. In particular, the labor problems, environmental problems, distortion of the classic human perception of the world, and many other problems provide a very disparate perspective compare with the notion of techno-utopianism. Therefore, many contemporary philosophers such as Andrew Feinberg have made serious criticisms of technology and its consequences. Feinberg states that there is a possibility in reforming the currently derailed role...

Changing Attitude towards Human in the Renaissance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Namazi, Mohammad (Author) ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Natural sciences have philosophical and ideological fundamentals. "The attitude towards human", is one of these philosophic or metaphysical fundamentals of science so that scientists and researchers, attentive or not, take it as a basis for their scientific activities. In the other hand, "the science" also affects "The attitude towards human", and different scientific theories caused various attitudes towards human to take shape. "Renaissance" is one of the most important and sophisticated historical periods of the west`s history, and the changes in this period are among the main basics of entering the modern age. In this thesis, first of all some issues about the fundamentals of the science...

The Necessity of Considering Technology in Philosophical Reflections about Science

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ariana, Farhad (Author) ; Taqavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important characteristics of us humans is that we are homofaber beings, and with the help of technology we transform our living conditions, and perceptions of ourselves and the world. Technology, then, plays and important role in all branches of philosophy, and especially in philosophy of science. Without, technological instruments, little scientific research can be found that can be accomplished. Many of the processes involved in scientific researches, such as experimentation and measurement, are rooted in technology. This thesis aims to examine how technology impacts science. Philosophers and historians of science have usually paid little attention to the influence of...

Technical Artifacts and Human Being: A Reflection on Verbeek’s Ideas

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jalilian, Mohammad Sobhan (Author) ; Akbari Takhtameshlou, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Technology, especially in recent centuries, has changed human form of life. Case studies show that there is a mutual relationship between human being and technology; Human is a technological being and technology is also a social entity. Therefore, trying to develop a conceptual framework to describe the important role of technical artifacts in our life can be regarded as a legitimate philosophical concern. Peter Paul Verbeek is one of the contemporary philosophers who take this concern seriously. He, by using the doctrines of The Empirical Turn in the philosophy of technology, has developed a lexical system, called post-phenomenology, to describe the role of Technology in human’s perception...

Observable/Unobservable Distinction in Philosophy of Science

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Moazzenzadeh, Jahangir (Author) ; Mousavi Karimi, Mirsaeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In an official announcement during the inaugural speech in 2012, where Hempel Award presented on behalf of the Philosophy of Science Association to Bas van Fraassen for “a lifetime scholarly achievement in the philosophy of science”, it was said that, “van Fraassen advocates a semantic approach to scientific theories and, on that basis, urges skepticism regarding laws of nature, anti-realism regarding unobservables, and pragmatism regarding explanation” (Gonzalez 2014, 5). van Fraassen’s approach to unobservable entities has a crucial role in his philosophy of science and also in this dissertation. The aim here is to defend van Fraassen’s claim based upon the distinction he makes between...
