    Sliding mode control of electromagnetic system based on fuzzy clustering estimation (an experimental study)

    Abstract
    Using the combination of fuzzy clustering estimation and sliding mode control, a technique for controlling the magnetic levitation (ML) systems is introduced. This technique is applied to an experimental setup of an ML system for investigating the method derived. The system considered, is a symmetric rotor supported by a cantilever load cell beam and excited by only one electromagnet of a 4-pole magnetic bearing setup. After demonstrating the experimental setup instruction and the specifications of its parts, the clustering, and the sliding mode control methods are explained briefly, then the quality of implementing the techniques to the setup is described step by step.     Abstract
    A novel magnetic nanocarrier with long spacer length and high colloidal stability has been prepared for effective delivery of doxorubicin (DOX). First, poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer was grown up onto the surface of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles to increase the loading amount of amine groups. Then, terminal amine groups were functionalized by polyethylene glycol dimethylester to increase the spacer length. Then anticancer drug DOX was covalently attached onto the system by hydrazone bond to forms a pH-sensitive nanocarrier. This system is designed to combine the advantage of magnetic targeting, high drug loading capacity, and controlled release

    In this paper, an algebraic rule for tuning the integer realizations of fractional-order PI controllers is developed, with an integral square error performance index, which outperforms that of an optimal ordinary PI controller. To this end, the PIλ control structure is used in conjunction with a third-order integer approximating filter to provide a three parameter fixed-structure extension of the ordinary PI controller. Next, the extra degree of freedom in setting the order of integration λ is leveraged to introduce a steepest descent direction in the extended controller parameter space.     A methodology is developed for the design of optimum viscous fluid passive energy dissipation systems using pole assignment active control algorithm. In this method, the procedure to assign the new structural poles is slightly modified such that the resulting structural properties (i.e., the optimum locations of system poles) can be achieved merely by modification of structural stiffness and addition of a passive control system.     To evaluate the selectivity and efficiency of solid phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coatings, synthesized by sol-gel technology, roles of precursors and coating polymers were extensively investigated. An on-line combination of capillary microextraction (CME) technique and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was set up to perform the investigation. Ten different fiber coatings were synthesized in which five of them contained only the precursor and the rests were prepared using both the precursor and coating polymer.     Arms bearing ureido-pyrimidinone functional groups with self-association capability (through quadruple hydrogen bonds) were successfully grafted onto hydroxyapatite nanoparticles. The supramolecularly modified nanoparticles (nHApUPy) exhibited enhanced colloidal stability compared to the original hydroxyapatite nanoparticles and were uniformly dispersed in supramolecular polycaprolactone in PCL(UPy)2/HApUPy nanocomposites at different filler loadings.     Abstract
    This brief presents an algorithm for decoupling multivariable systems based on quadratic programming (QP). A single framework is presented which can be used to design centralized, decentralized, and sparse structures of arbitrary dynamical order. A worked example and a case study are presented to demonstrate the usage and performance. It is shown that only previous methods based on Evolutionary Algorithms are able to achieve slightly higher performance than the proposed algorithm. However, these minor improvements are outweighed by the huge increase in time and costs associated with evolutionary optimizations

    A novel nano-porous hydrogel (NPH) was synthesized via graft copolymerization of sodium acrylate (Na-AA) and acrylamide (AAm) onto salep backbones and its application as a carrier matrix for oral delivery of tetracycline hydrochloride (TH) was investigated. The Taguchi method as a strong experimental design tool was used for synthesis optimization. The swelling behavior of optimum hydrogel was measured in various media. The hydrogel formation was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and thermogravimetrical analysis (TGA).     In this paper, the stabilization of linear time-invariant systems with fractional derivatives using a limited number of available state feedback gains, none of which is individually capable of system stabilization, is studied. In order to solve this problem in fractional order systems, the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach has been used for fractional order systems. A shadow integer order system for each fractional order system is defined, which has a behavior similar to the fractional order system only from the stabilization point of view.     Some new 1,4-distyrylbenzene derivatives were synthesized by using immobilized palladium nanoparticles on silica-bonded N-propyl morpholine (PNP-SBNPM) as a heterogeneous catalyst. These one-pot reactions afforded a range of stereoselective, symmetrical (E)-1,4-distyrylbenzene derivatives with high yields (78-90%). The green catalyst system is recyclable and allows facile product isolation. The recycled catalyst could be reused six times without appreciable loss of catalytic activity

    In this thesis, three new metallic-yielding dampers for dissipation of energy in structures are introduced and studied. The advantages of dissipation of energy from torsional yielding in comparison to tensile yielding is verified by performing both monotonic and cyclic tests on three aluminum alloys specimens and a mild steel specimen.     Seismic response of steel moment-resisting frames equipped with a novel passive damper called infilled-pipe damper (IPD) is investigated in this study. The IPD is a very economical and easily assembled structural control device with high energy absorption, invented recently by the authors.
