Combination of Linear MPC and Differential Game Theory for Optimal Cooperative Terminal Guidance Law with HIL Simulation
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nobahari, Hadi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, a cooperative terminal guidance algorithm has been derived for simultaneous multi-interceptor collision with a target. This algorithm is obtained using the combination of model predictive control method and differential game theory. One of the features of this method is the calculation of the optimal guidance command in the form of an explicit relationship. Another feature of this method is its resistance to disturbances due to the use of differential game theory. The first innovation of this research is the use of this hybrid method to create a guidance algorithm, even in the non-cooperative guidance problem. The next innovation is in creating a cooperative terminal...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Malaek, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
For the VTOL aircraft mission profiles, terminal phases are considered the most crucial and convoluted due to the interrelated aspects involved in transition from level flight into vertical motion. Flight safety is the trivial, yet essential requisite that should be satisfied during all flight phases. This paper aims to present a comprehensive model for determining a safe distance for urban VTOL air taxies during the landing phase through predicting possible conflictions and reducing this possibility by performing a conflict resolution maneuver while maintaining the flight safety requirements. The safe distance during landing is calculated based on a Monte-Carlo simulation which employs the...
Investigation of E-Vtol Performance Parameters on the Characteristics of Civil Air-Taxi Network
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Malaek, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays more than half of the world’s population lived in urban areas. That proportion is set to rise to 67% by 2050. This will cause urban mobility with serious problems. The concept of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is proposed to avoid the problem to become a catastrophy. Due to environmental issues and also high operating costs, using copters as an air-taxi was not justifiable. As the technology in e-VTOL flourished, the desire of using of these vehicles in such a transportation system was increased. In this paper, besides previous investigations, the e-VTOL’s performance parameters’ influence on the characteristic of a civil air-taxi network is under investigation. In addition, this paper...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Malaek, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
The only problem in aviation and airport development is the noise print on population groups surrounding airports due to its high frequency it is so annoying for human ear. In order to overcome this problem technology has reached its edge and the only alternative is to deviate terminal flight path.In this thesis I tried find a pattern for optimizing terminal flight path considering a Boeing 737-800 taking off from Mehrabad airport’s runway 29. To do this we were in need of a huge database of airplane low speed model, geographic information and population knowledge. The common approaches used by FAA and other international organizations for modeling low speed flight were used. The influence of...
Introducing a Simulation-Based Model to Improve the Design and Layout of Workstations Inside Airport Terminals in Iran
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
Abstract
The airport terminal is difficult to plan and design due to the different components and the intricate complexity of its parts. At the airport terminal, we face a queue system which simulation is always a good way to analyze. In addition, computer simulation using modern softwares with the capability to model different types of systems, including the airport terminal, while being less realistic than analytical models, is less costly than operational Exercise. In this study, a supportive approach for better and specific management of Iranian airport terminal buildings with discrete-event simulation is proposed, considering the need for managing the airport terminals building in the country and...

The Simultaneous Berth and Quay Crane Scheduling
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salmasi, Naser (Supervisor)
Abstract
This study addresses the simultaneous berth and quay crane (QC) scheduling problem in a container terminal. The berths are considered as a continuous area and the vessels arrive dynamically. QCs are allowed to move to other vessels before completing the process on an assigned vessel. The objective function is determined based on the practical applications of the problem. It deals with minimization of sum of the completion time of vessels. In this research, a mathematical model has been developed for the research problem. According to NP-hardness of the research problem, two meta heuristic algorithms based on Tabu Search are proposed. To solve the problem, these methods have two layers with...

A new homologous series of linear aliphatic unsaturated hydroxypolyesters a polyol soft segments for polyurethanes: Synthesis and characterization [electronic resource]
, Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 68, Issue 2, pages 173–183, 11 April 1998 ; Rezai, Nasrin ; Zohurian, M. J ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Synthesis and characterization of a new series of low molecular weight (MW = 500–3000) OH-terminated linear aliphatic unsaturated polyesters based on cis-2-butene-1,4-diol and oxalic to sebacic acid were investigated. Direct polycondensation and transesterification methods were used for the syntheses. The latter was recognized to be the preferable method due to its lower reaction temperature and time, lower diol/diacid ratio, absence of decarboxylation, and formation of a product with low polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.3–2.7). Elemental analysis, GPC, FTIR, 1H-NMR, DSC, and WAXD were used for the investigations. A segmented polyurethane based on poly (cis-2-butylene adipate) glycol was also...

, Article 2011 10th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, EEEIC.EU 2011 - Conference Proceedings ; 2011 ; Kazemi, A. R ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In a practical power system, automating all the substations is neither affordable nor economically justifiable. On the other hand, the trend for electric power subsidies elimination in some regions, such as Iran, aggravates this situation. To enhance the cost effectiveness of distribution automation system, this paper proposes a novel applicable qualitative-quantitative method using analytical hierarchical process (AHP) to find the optimum placement of remote terminal units (RTU). Entire attempt is to contribute all the crucial technical and practical parameters related to this problem in order to find the most reliable solution. Optimum number of RTUs is determined using the concepts of...
Reliability evaluation of an HVDC transmission system tapped by a VSC station
, Article IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery ; Vol. 25, issue. 3 , 2010 , p. 1962-1970 ; ISSN: 8858977 ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Aminifar, F ; Billinton, R ; Faried, S. O ; Edris, A. -A ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Reliability evaluation of multiterminal HVDC systems has received very little attention in the past. This paper presents reliability modeling and analysis of an HVDC transmission system incorporating a voltage-sourced converter (VSC) tapping station. The use of VSC tapping stations enables the supply of power along the route to areas with comparatively little consumption. In this paper, a comprehensive detailed reliability model is developed and then converted to a manageable and computationally efficient model. Using this equivalent reliability model, various reliability indices are calculated at the load point of the system and the impacts of the VSC tapping station on these indices are...
A harmonic termination technique for single-and multi-band high-efficiency class-F MMIC power amplifiers
, Article IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques ; Volume 62, Issue 5 , May , 2014 , Pages 1212-1220 ; ISSN: 00189480 ; Babakrpur, E ; Medi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
This paper presents a harmonic termination technique for single-and multi-band high-efficiency class-F monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) power amplifiers (PAs). The harmonic termination network (HTN), realized with the minimum possible number of elements, can be used to terminate an arbitrary number of harmonics in a single-band PA or harmonics of multiple frequencies in a concurrent multi-band PA. The drain and gate bias lines are embedded in the HTNs to obviate the need for RF chokes and reduce the chip area. A single-and a dual-band MMIC PA are designed using the proposed technique and implemented in a 0.25-μm AlGaAs-InGaAs pHEMT technology. The single-band 5.5-GHz PA...
A new efficient approach to search for all multi-state minimal cuts
, Article IEEE Transactions on Reliability ; Volume 63, Issue 1 , March , 2014 , Pages 154-166 ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
There are several exact or approximating approaches that apply {m d}-MinCuts (d-MCs) to compute multistate two-Terminal reliability. Searching for and determining d-MCs in a stochastic-flow network are important for computing system reliability. Here, by investigating the existing methods and using our new results, an efficient algorithm is proposed to find all the d-MCs. The complexity of the new algorithm illustrates its efficiency in comparison with other existing algorithms. Two examples are worked out to show how the algorithm determines all the d -MCs in a network flow with unreliable nodes, and in a network flow of moderate size. Moreover, using the d-MCs found by the algorithm, the...

Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the problem of the empirical coordination in a triangular multiterminal network. A triangular multiterminal network consists of three terminals where two terminals observe two external i.i.d correlated sequences. The third terminal wishes to generate a sequence with desired empirical joint distribution. For this problem, we derive inner and outer bounds on the empirical coordination capacity region. It is shown that the capacity region of the degraded source network and the inner and outer bounds on the capacity region of the cascade multiterminal network can be directly obtained from our inner and outer bounds. For a cipher system, we establish key distribution...
Spike phase synchronization in delayed-coupled neural networks: Uniform vs. non-uniform transmission delay
, Article Chaos ; Volume 23, Issue 1 , 2013 ; 10541500 (ISSN) ; Sharif University of Technology
2013
Abstract
In this paper, we investigated phase synchronization in delayed dynamical networks. Non-identical spiking Hindmarsh-Rose neurons were considered as individual dynamical systems and coupled through a number of network structures such as scale-free, Erdos-Rényi, and modular. The individual neurons were coupled through excitatory chemical synapses with uniform or distributed time delays. The profile of spike phase synchrony was different when the delay was uniform across the edges as compared to the case when it was distributed, i.e., different delays for the edges. When an identical transmission delay was considered, a quasi-periodic pattern was observed in the spike phase synchrony. There...
Analysis and enhancement of low-voltage ride-through capability of brushless doubly fed induction generator
, Article IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics ; Volume 60, Issue 3 , March , 2013 , Pages 1146-1155 ; 02780046 (ISSN) ; Oraee, H ; Zolghadri, M. R ; Shao, S ; Tavner, P ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
This paper discusses the dynamic behavior of the brushless doubly fed induction generator during the grid faults which lead to a decrease in the generator's terminal voltage. The variation of the fluxes, back EMFs, and currents are analyzed during and after the voltage dip. Furthermore, two alternative approaches are proposed to improve the generator ride-through capability using crowbar and series dynamic resistor circuits. Appropriate values for their resistances are calculated analytically. Finally, the coupled circuit model and the generator's speed and reactive power controllers are simulated to validate the theoretical results and the effectiveness of the proposed solutions. Moreover,...

Abstract
In this paper we consider the content distribution to a set of mobile users interested in the same content. We use the concept of mobile clouds, which exploits cooperation between mobile terminals over the low-power short-range links. We propose, formulate and investigate the energy efficiency and delay of four realistic cooperative content delivery strategies. The derived results, through analysis of mathematical models and simulations, demonstrate around 65% to 95% energy saving gain in mobile cloud strategies compared to conventional multicasting. We also show that using mobile clouds, content distribution delay can be reduced for up to 85%

Abstract
Conditions for an efficient ligand-free Heck C-C coupling reaction of aryl iodides and bromides with terminal olefins under aerobic conditions have been developed. Critical to the success of this new protocol is the use of palladium acetate as an extremely active catalyst for the Heck reaction in water and aqueous media. Both the base and the solvent were found to have a fundamental influence on the efficiency of the reaction, with K2CO3 and a mixture of (2:1) H2O/DMSO being the optimal base and solvent, respectively
Kalman filter based packet loss replacement in presence of additive noise
, Article 2012 25th IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering: Vision for a Greener Future, CCECE 2012 ; 2012 ; 9781467314336 (ISBN) ; Ghorshi, S ; Tahaei, A

Abstract
A major problem in real-time packet-based communication systems, is misrouted or delayed packets which results in degraded perceived voice quality. If packets are not available on time, the packets are considered as lost. The easiest solution in a network terminal receiver is to replace silence for the duration of lost speech segments. In a high quality communication system, to avoid degradation in speech quality due to packet loss, a suitable method or algorithm is needed to replace the missing segments of speech. In this paper, we introduce an adaptive filter for replacement of lost speech segment. In this method Kalman filter as a state-space based method will be used to predict the...
