Electrochemical Determination of Tyrosine and Tryptophan at the Surface of Pyrolytic Graphite Electrode Modified with Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes, New Coccine and Nitrazine, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shahrokhian, Saeed
At the first part of this thesis, a pyrolitic graphite electrode (PGE) modified with new coccine/multi-walled carbon nanotubes film (NC/MWCNT) was applied as a sensitive electrochemical sensor for determination and study of electrochemical behavior of tyrosine (Tyr) in aqueous solutions. The results showed that NC/MWCNT caused a remarkable increase in the peak current so the NC/MWCNT/PGE electrode surface was far more sensitive to the concentration of Tyr than the PGE surface. The nanoporous gold films have been prepared by the electrostatic self assembly of gold nanoparticles capped with tryptophan. A carbon paste electrode (CPE) chemically modified with TiO2 nanoparticles and quinizarine (QZ) was used as a selective electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of minor amounts of d-penicillamine (D-PA) and tryptophan (Trp). This modified electrode showed very efficient electrocatalytic activity for anodic oxidation of both d-PA and Trp. Substantial decreases of anodic overpotentials for both compounds made this analysis possible. We have prepared a pyrolytic graphite electrode (PGE) whose surface is covered with a thin film of a nano-mixture of graphite/diamond (NGD). The electrode is shown to be capable of electrochemically sensing of tryptophan (TRP) and 5-hydroxytryptophan (HTRP). Influence of the addition of water molecules (n = 1-6) on the interaction energy between Li +, Na +, K + cations and indole molecule as tryptophan amino acid residue is considered at MP2(FULL)/6-311++G(d, p)//B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) levels of theory. A comparative investigation has been developed for the stability constants of several amino acid complexes with divalent metal ions, which have been determined by potentiometric pH titration. Depending on the metal ion-binding properties, vital differences in the building complexes were observed. The present study indicates that in some M(L) complexes, metal ions are arranged in carboxyl groups, but in other M(L)complexes, some metal ions are able to build chelate over amine groups.
