, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zare Hematabadi, Ali Akbar (Author) ; Sanaei, Esmaeel (Supervisor) ; Pezeshk, Amir Mansour (Supervisor)
    Abstract
There are many methods for direction finding (DF) of radar targets, while the complexity and time elapsed calculation are their main drawbacks, thus the real time implementation of this methods are difficult. Artificial neural network (ANN) for DF is one of the optimum and good ways to implementation that have better result versus other techniques. In this thesis, direction finding problem for radar targets by using artificial neural networks have been studied. A new method is presented to detect the multiple targets simultaneously, that it can be implemented in digital form easily. Here one-dimensional DF by using uniform linear array (ULA) discussed and formulated, then the proposed...

DOA Estimation in Communication Systems Using Deep Neural Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alikhani, Morteza (Author) ; Behrouzi, Hamid (Supervisor) ; Karbasi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of Direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation in MIMO communication networks is to find the direction of signals that are mixed together and mixed with noise by using an array of multiple receiving antennas. DOA estimation is an important issue in array signal processing. The traditional methods for DOA estimation try to solve this problem with mathematical algorithms. For example, some of these methods are based on parameter estimation; such as DOA estimation methods using maximum likelihood estimation methods. Some of other traditional methods are based on subspace decomposition; Like the famous MUSIC method. The traditional methods of DOA estimation usually have a drawback, and that...

    Abstract
This paper uses the shift-invariance property of uniform linear array in root-MUSIC estimator for obtaining signal and noise subspaces by applying multistage Wiener filter (MSWF) procedure. Also, the MSWF root-MUSIC based on the pseudo-noise resampling process for estimating the direction of arrival (DOA) of signals is proposed. By this process, a root estimator bank and a corresponding DOA estimator bank are constructed. Then, a hypothesis test is applied to the DOA estimator bank to detect the normal DOA estimators from abnormal DOA estimators called outliers. By averaging the corresponding root estimators of normal DOA estimators, the final DOAs can be determined more accurately. When all...

Effect of unitary transformation on Bayesian information criterion for source numbering in array processing

    Abstract
An approach based on unitary transformation for the problem of estimating the number of signals is proposed in this study. Among the information theoretic criteria, the authors focus on the conventional Bayesian information criterion (BIC) in the presence of a uniform linear array. The sample covariance matrix of this array is transformed into the real symmetric one by using a unitary transformation. This real symmetric matrix has real eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Therefore its eigenvalue decomposition needs only real computations. Since the eigenvalues of this real symmetric matrix are equal to the eigenvalues of the sample covariance matrix, by replacing them in BIC formula, the term...

    Abstract
In this paper, we present an antenna array with beam steering capability to characterize MIMO channels over 57-63 GHz frequency band. This uniform linear array is built of six U-slot patch elements which are spaced half wavelength to maximize the beam scanning coverage. Each element can be fed by an individual transceiver to establish a MIMO construction. The system is implemented in fused silica technology to be integrated easily with RFICs and to achieve excellent fabrication tolerance for accurate mm-wave measurements. It can provide 11dBi peak realized gain at broadside and beam steering up to ±40° from broadside in the whole frequency band. © 2018 IEEE

    Abstract
In this paper, we study the problem of estimating the direction of arrival (DOA) using a sparsely sampled uniform linear array (ULA). Based on an initial incomplete ULA measurements, our strategy is to choose a sparse subset of array elements for measuring the next snapshot. Then, we use a Hankel-structured matrix completion to interpolate for the missing ULA measurements. Finally, the source DOAs are estimated using a subspace method such as Prony on the fully recovered ULA. We theoretically provide a sufficient bound for the number of required samples (array elements) for perfect recovery. The numerical comparisons of the proposed method with existing techniques such as atomic-norm...

    Abstract
This paper presents a scheme to enumerate the incident waves impinging on a high dimensional uniform linear array using relatively few samples. The approach is based on Minimum Description Length (MDL) criteria and statistical properties of eigenvalues of the Sample Covariance Matrix (SCM). We assume that several models, with each model representing a certain number of sources, will compete and MDL criterion will select the best model with the minimum model complexity and maximum model decision. Statistics of noise eigenvalue of SCM can be approximated by the distributional properties of the eigenvalues given by Marcenko-Pastur distribution in the signal-free SCM. In this paper we use random...
