Nonlinear Microwave Circuits Design and Modeling using Behavioral Models Based on Volterra Series and X-parameter

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Zargar, Hossein (Author) ; Banai, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Modern microwave and wireless communications systems are too complex today to permit the complete simulation of the nonlinear behavior at the transistor level of description. This problem presents a significant productivity bottleneck for design engineers. At the bridge between the transistor circuit and the multichip module or RF integrated circuit (RFIC) we use “behavioral models” to describe the nonlinear circuit blocks or ICs in the system. The behavioral models are simplified models of the essential nonlinear behavior of the complex sub-circuits; this simplification means that these models will execute more quickly, and use much less memory than if an entire complex subsystem was...

Performance of CULP-CDMA Receivers Based on Four Wave Mixers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noshad, Mohammad (Author) ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis the performance of the all optical AND gates, based the Four Wave Mixing process (FWM), for application in optical communication and computing systems, has been investigated. In the performance analysis of these AND gates, we mainly focus on its application in the receivers of the Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems. For analyzing the performance of these receivers we utilize the existing mathematical model for FWM [1-5], which leads to the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) coupled equations. The attenuation, chromatic dispersion and Raman scattering effects have been taken into account in this model and the scalar approximation, for approximating the relation...

Performance analysis of AND gates based on four-wave-mixing for application in optical-code division multiple access systems

    Abstract
In this paper, we study the performance of all optical AND gates based on the four-wave-mixing (FWM) process, for application in the receivers of the spectral phase encoded optical code division multiple access (SPE-OCDMA) systems. For the performance analysis, the spectral domain auto-correlation function of the multiple access interference signal at the output of the optical AND gate is derived and then mean and variance of the photo-detector current are calculated. For solving the Fourier transform of FWM non-linear Schrodinger equations, spectral domain Volterra series are used and the solution of these coupled equations is approximated with the first three terms of the Volterra...

    Abstract
Application of Volterra series to the modeling of static and dynamic nonlinear systems is investigated in this paper and compared to other methods. For nonlinear systems with memory, Volterra series serves as a generalization of convolution integral. To parameterize the Volterra kernels for limited dimension series, different methods are discussed. We use Laguerre functions and wavelet packets as orthonormal basis and we find the poles for the basis through a genetic algorithm search. Our test system is a hydraulic actuator with a highly nonlinear dynamics which is modeled with Volterra series. The results show that dynamic model with wavelet packets give a more accurate model with respect...
