    Abstract
Process variation has already emerged as a major concern in design of multi-processor system on chips (MPSoC). In recent years, there have been several attempts to bring variability awareness into the task scheduling process of embedded MPSoCs to improve performance yield. This study attempts to provide a comparative study of the current variation-aware design-time task and communication scheduling techniques that target embedded MPSoCs. To this end, the authors first use a sign-off variability modelling framework to accurately estimate the frequency distribution of MPSoC components. The task scheduling methods are then compared in terms of both the quality of the final solution and the...

    , Article 2008 3rd International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies: From Theory to Applications, ICTTA, 7 April 2008 through 11 April 2008, Damascus ; 2008 ; 9781424417513 (ISBN) Bazregar, A ; Movaghar, A ; Barati, A ; Eslami Nejhad, M. R ; Barati, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
This paper proposes a decentralized algorithm to organize an ad-hoc sensor network into clusters. Each sensor operates independently, monitoring communication among others. Those sensors which have many neighbors that are not already part of a cluster are likely candidates to creating a new cluster by declaring themselves to be a new cluster-head. The Clustering Algorithm via Deadline Timer (CADT) provides a protocol whereby this can be achieved and the process continues until all sensors are part of a cluster. Because of the difficulty of analyses simplified models are used to study and abstract its performance. A simple formula to estimate the number of clusters which will be formed in an...

    2010
    Abstract
This paper presents different applications of a vector model developed by the authors in Brushless Doubly-Fed Machine (BDFM) studies including analysis, control and simulations. The BDFM considered consists of a nested-loop type rotor. The vector model, which considers all the loops in each rotor nest, is derived using BDFM coupled-circuit model equations and by applying appropriate vector transformations. Three vector transformations are employed for the derivation of vector model corresponding to two three-phase windings in the stator and the rotor circuit. Each transformation consists of an angle which is, in general, unspecified and must be assigned appropriately depending on the...

    Abstract
Thermal expansion and hot deformation are two phenomena causing dimensional errors in investment casting. This error occurs in dimensions between the die and wax pattern. Therefore, the wax's thermo-physical and thermo-mechanical properties, the metal die features, and the process parameters affect the dimensions of the wax pattern. Some important effective process parameters are the injection temperature, die temperature, and holding time. In this paper, the effect of injection parameters on the dimensional accuracy of the wax model created by a metallic die is studied. The Taguchi formulation based on the design of experiments is applied to obtain the optimum condition in achieving the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Barati, Farhad (Author) ; Oraee Mirzamani, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The Brushless Doubly-Fed Machine (BDFM) has the potential to be employed either as a motor in drive applications or as a generator in variable speed wind power applications. The Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) is, currently, the main generator used for wind power applications while it suffers from the existence of slip-ring and brushes. The BDFM can potentially achieve the characteristics such as those of the DFIM while it benefits from the brushless operation. This dissertation aims to show the efficacies of the BDFM for variable speed power generation by developing and implementation of a suitable vector control structure. For this purpose, at first a vector model is developed for the...

The Investigation of Sustainable Transportation System Characteristics

    Abstract
This work, with the help of FUZZY DEMATEL and FUZZY TOPSIS methods investigates the behavior of a general transportation system. In fact, we have been able to develop a cause and effect model to describe why in an unsustainable system any increase in the so called “human value” would not help increase the overall system’s sustainability. Moreover, we have been able to analyze the new role of the key stakeholders as “insurance companies”. in fact, such companies receives a guaranteed flow of money without providing any extra services in the current unstable situation which help widen the gap and increase the rate of instabilities. Further investigations might be necessary to examine the role...

Estimating Multiple Change Points in Multistage Processes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Barati, Behzad (Author) ; Akhavan-Niaki, Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Control charts are considered as one of the most important tools of statistical process control in detection of assignable causes of variation in the processes. One of the main criticisms of these charts is their inability in discovering the out-of-control state in real time. To eliminate the main sources of error, indicating the actual time of deviation in processes which is called change point is very important. Diagnosing of real time of changes limits the range of search for the causes of deviations and maximizes the chance of finding the main sources of deviation resulting in time saving and reducing expenses. There are different types of change points. One of change point types which...

    2014
    Abstract
Reliability and energy consumption are two of the main constraints in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this paper, a novel energy efficient and high speed error control scheme is introduced that is based on the Redundant Residue Number System (RRNS) allowing real-time application of WSNs. The proposed approach employs a new 3-moduli set {22n+1, 2 2n1-1, 2n- 1 } and an efficient reverse converter which relies on the Mixed Radix Conversion (MRC) algorithm and achieves significant improvements both in terms of conversion delay and hardware design. In order to obtain error controllability, two-redundant-moduli set 23n+1 - 1, 24n+1 - 1 is also added to the main 3-moduli set. The theoretical...

    Abstract
The paper deals with a new reliable data transport protocol for wireless sensor networks, referred as RDTP. One of the most prominent challenges in wireless sensor networks is reliable transport of data from sensor nodes to sink node. For designing protocols for such networks hardware, some constraining factors associated with energy and processing power must be taken into consideration. There are two generic methods, ARQ and FEC to achieve reliable data transport. Here, a reliable data transport protocol for wireless sensor networks is proposed, in which an efficient moduli set in redundant residue number system has been employed. The modulus set is exploited as a means for adding...

Generating Mutants to Improve Test Suites: A Search-Based Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Barati, Babak (Author) ; Mirian-Hosseinabadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mutation testing is known to be one of the best strategies to improve the quality of test suites, consequently the quality of the software. However, some challenges make mutaton testing unpractical. One of the main challenges confronting mutation testing is that it demands exhustive computation and is time consuming because of the large number of mutants that need to be compiled and executed on the test cases of the test suite. Many researches have been conducted to reduce the number of mutants without losing the main characteristics of the all possible mutants. Most of these researches select the mutants without considering the characteristics of the test suite, therefore the reduced set of...

Mitigating Memory Access Overhead in GPUs Through Reproduction of Intermediate Results

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Barati, Rahil (Author) ; Sarbazi Azad, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
GPUs employ large register files to reduce the performance and energy overhead of memory accesses through improving the thread-level parallelism, and reducing the number of data movements from the off-chip memory. Recently, latency-tolerant register file (LTRF) is proposed to enable high-capacity register files with low power and area cost. LTRF is a two-level register file in which the first level is a small fast register cache, and the second level is a large slow main register file. LTRF uses a near-perfect register prefetching mechanism that warp registers are prefetched from the main register file to the register file cache before scheduling the warp, and hiding the register prefetching...
