, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khorrami Jahromi, Arash (Author) ; Saadatmand, Maryam (Supervisor) ; Eghbal, Manouchehr (Supervisor) ; Parsa Yeganeh, Laleh (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cell lysis, as the first procedure of cell pretreatment, is a process that breaks cell membranes open thereby facilitating access to intracellular substances, such as DNA, proteins, and other components for further analysis to diagnose and treat diseases at early stages. Currently, there are several methods for cell lysis at macroscales. However, the time-consuming and expensive procedures as well as the large scal of the system are the main disadvantages of the systems. Recently, microfluidic systems have attracted considerable attention due to advantages associated with automation, integration and miniaturization of biomedical test protocols. Centrifugal microfluidics (Lab-on-a-Disc) is a...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fathi Ganje Lou, Ali (Author) ; Farhadi, Fathollah (Supervisor) ; Saadatmand, Maryam (Supervisor) ; Parsa Yeganeh, Laleh (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) extraction, as one of the most important steps in modern molecular diagnostics, is the process by which DNA is separated from intracellular materials like proteins, membranes, and other materials contained in the cell. Microfluidic technology enables sophisticated, time-consuming and costly experiments with minimal use of raw materials, time and cost and acceptable accuracy. The predominant advantages of centrifugal microfluidic systems are utilizing centrifugal force to generate propulsion without the need for a pump, and eliminating the need for experts to run the system. Various fluidic operations such as valving, mixing, metering, heating, and sample...

    Abstract
Cell lysis is the most important first step for molecular biology and diagnostic testing. Recently, microfluidic systems have attracted considerable attention due to advantages associated with automation, integration and miniaturization, especially in resource-limited settings. In this work, novel centrifugal microfluidic platforms with new configurations for chemical cell lysis are presented. The developed systems employ passive form of pneumatic and inertial forces for effective mixing of lysis reagents and cell samples as well as precise fluidic control. Characterizations of the developed Lab-on-a-Discs (LoaDs) have been conducted with dyed deionized (DI) waters and white blood cells...

On the links of vertices in eimplicial d-complexes embeddable in the euclidean 2d-space

    Abstract
We consider d-dimensional simplicial complexes which can be PL embedded in the 2d-dimensional Euclidean space. In short, we show that in any such complex, for any three vertices, the intersection of the link-complexes of the vertices is linklessly embeddable in the (2 d- 1 ) -dimensional Euclidean space. In addition, we use similar considerations on links of vertices to derive a new asymptotic upper bound on the total number of d-simplices in an (continuously) embeddable complex in 2d-space with n vertices, improving known upper bounds, for all d≥ 2. Moreover, we show that the same asymptotic bound also applies to the size of d-complexes linklessly embeddable in the (2 d+ 1 ) -dimensional...

Generation of Quantum Correlation by the Environment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezazadeh, Fatemeh (Author) ; Memarzadeh, Laleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In most of quantum information protocols, entanglement or, in general expression, quantum correlation, plays the major role. So it is very important to know the ways of generating entanglement and protecting it against noise.
In a general view, environment is usually known as a destructive agent for entangled states. Being exposed to environment, non-diagonal elements of an entangled state’s density matrix would tend to zero, because of decoherence effect. Thus, the entanglement would be disappear. But, recent studies have shown that, this destructive agent can be convert to a useful agent for generating entanglement between system components.
In this thesis, at first, the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vedaie, Shakib (Author) ; Memarzadeh, Laleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Entanglement is a type of quantum correlation that plays a crucial role at the heart of almost every quantum algorithm which has led them to outperform their classical counterparts. Recently, a new type of correlation has been introduced. Namely, ”Quantum Discord”. Which is different from the entanglement in the essence, nonetheless it has caused some quantum algorithms to outperform their classical counterparts. Since, creating and maintaining this states is easier than entangled states, they have draw many interests. In this thesis, we review and investigate the use of ”Quantum Discord” for transferring quantum information, in particular remote preparation of quantum states and Remote...

Entanglement Survival Time in Landau-Zener Model in the Presence of Dissipation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babakan, Melika (Author) ; Memarzadeh, Laleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Entanglement is one of the unique phenomena in quantum systems that does not have any similar phenomena in classical systems. Entanglement has been used in many protocols of quantum information theory, and there is agreement on its key role in quantum computations and quantum communication protocols. Therefore, studying its dynamics as well as preventing its degradation is important for us. Extensive studies have been done in this field, including the study of entanglement evolution in a situation where all parts of the system are entangled with one of its sub-system has irreversible dynamics due to interaction with its environment [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]. However, the study...

    Quantum Capacity of Non-Gaussian Channels

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Arqand, Amir (Author) ; Memarzadeh, Laleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the critical subjects in quantum information science is the transmission of quantum information. Like classical channels, the question of the capacity of quantum channels arises in the quantum information theory; however, in the case of quantum information theory, there are various notions of capacities that can be defined. In quantum channels, information is encoded into the quantum degrees of freedoms, and the channels are used for the transmission of classical and quantum information. Therefore, the classical capacity and quantum capacity of quantum channels are defined as the optimal rate of the transmission of classical and quantum information through quantum channels,...

Quantum Markovian Evolutions in Adiabatic and Nonadiabatic Regimes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kashef, Arman (Author) ; Memarzadeh, Laleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, our aim is to analyse the environment effects on adiabatic and non-adiabatic evolutions. In this regard, first we need to establish a suitable framework for describing the dynamics. While describing the evolution of a quantum system without interaction with its surrounding environment is easy, describing the time evolution of a quantum system in interaction with its surrounding environment is challenging. In this thesis, first we review the formalism for deriving the Markovian master equation for describing the evolution of a system in weak coupling limit. In the standard formalism, it is assumed that the system Hamiltonian is time-independent. But as our aim is to analyse...

Control of Nonlinear Dynamic Systems over the Packet Erasure Channel: Applications in Remote Control of Autonomous Vehicles

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Parsa, Ali (Author) ; Farhadi, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Abstract: In this dissertation, the problem of tracking and stabilization of nonlinear dynamic systems over the packet erasure channel is addressed. Using the idea of linearization of nonlinear system around current working point, and by the design of an encoder, decoder, and controller for the linearized system, state tracking and reference tracking of the nonlinear system are addressed. To prove the traking and stability of the system, the strong law of large numbers and the dwell time approach are used. By computer simulations, the theoretical development is applied on the nonlinear dynamic of the unicycle model, which is a suitable model for autonomous vehicles, such as drones, unmanned...

    Abstract
Radiofrequency coils provide high-resolution magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of human tissues. A small RF coil produces MR images with a higher resolution compared to the commercial volume MR coils from mass limited samples. Signal to noise ratio (SNR) plays a key role in the optimal design of receiver radiofrequency coils. In this work, we present a three-loop saddle coil suitable for MR imaging of digits of the human body. The geometry of the introduced coil is optimized to achieve the highest SNR. The coil performance is evaluated through comparing the measured SNR maps of the optimal coil derived from MR images of a saline phantom with the corresponding measured SNR maps of a commercial...

    Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for almost sure asymptotic state tracking, stability and reference tracking of nonlinear dynamic systems by remote controller over the packet erasure channel, which is an abstract model for transmission via WiFi and the Internet. Numerical Investigation of Parameters Affecting the Behavior of Backdraft Phenomena and Its Extinguishing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Parsa, Sina (Author) ; Farhanieh, Bijan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Fires in buildings and closed environments are considered as the most important types of fires due to the possibility of the presence of people and the possibility of life-threatening. Understanding and predicting fire behavior is critical to preventing damage. Backdraft is a special phenomenon of fire that occurs in a chamber with limited ventilation. In a closed environment where there is fire, over time, due to the closed doors and windows, the oxygen required for combustion decreases and as a result, semi-combustible materials can be dangerously exposed to the environment with flammable vapors and gases. Fill and when sufficient air reaches this chamber, a sudden explosion or the same...

Inferential Account of Communication, and Information Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeh, Sadra (Author) ; Ghadakpour, Laleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The inferential approach, in contrast with classic model of coding-decoding, regards communication something more than the mere decoding of the received message, and points to the inference as a pivotal element for the discovery of the intentional meaning in a communication. This line of research was beginned with the works of Paul Grice in the literature of the pragmatics. His theory proposes its cooperation principle and conversational maxims for that aim.Relevance theory, while accepting the pivotal role of the inference, replaces cognitive principle of relevance with those Gricean rules. Hence, it proposes a more comprehensive explanation of communication, with more simplicity and...
