    Improved resolution three-dimensional integral imaging using optimized irregular lens-array structure

    Abstract
    A rigorous approach is proposed to improve the resolution of integral imaging (InI) by finding the appropriate form of irregularity in the arrangement of the InI lenslets. The improvement of the resolution is achieved through redistribution of the sampling points in a uniform manner. The optimization process for finding the optimum pattern of the lens-array irregularity is carried out by minimizing a cost function, whose mathematical closed-form expression is provided. The minimization of the proposed cost function ensures the uniform distribution of sampling points and thus improves the resolution within the desired depth of field (DOF) and field of view (FOV).     Abstract
    The trade-off between the aliasing in integral imaging (II) and the level of interference among adjacent elemental images is mathematically studied in this paper. It is then shown that the multiple-access techniques successfully used in communication systems, e.g. frequency-division multiple access (FDMA), canbeinvoked to ease the trade-off. Implementation of spatial FDMA technique in three-dimensional II is discussed together with its nonidealities and limitations. Elemental images of three toy cars and their corresponding three-dimensional image are finally provided to demonstrate the superiority of the here-proposed spatial FDMA technique

    Abstract
    The seemingly inherent deficiencies of integral imaging systems-in particular, the depth of field limitation-are, in this Letter, partly resolved by using an irregular lens array, where each lens is either rotated or displaced from its original position in the conventional flat lens array. It is shown that having an array of lenses in the integral imaging system has some sort of redundancy that could be exploited to improve the quality of the image formation. The needed rotation or displacement of constituent lenses in the array is found by using a meticulous optimization algorithm, which tries to evenly distribute the optical rays emanating from each of the lenses to form the final image

    Abstract
    A superhydrophobic polystyrene hollow fiber was electrospun around a copper spring collector. This approach led to the construction of a hollow fiber membrane, and the copper spring acted as a scaffold. The characteristic properties of the hollow fiber were studied by scanning electron microscopy. The membrane was used as a probe to transfer the extracting solvent from aquatic media to a gas chromatograph. After performing the liquid–liquid microextraction procedure on 10 mL of water sample by octanol, the whole solution was passed through the prepared polystyrene hollow fiber.     Abstract
    We describe a nanocomposite prepared from polydopamine, silver nanoparticles, and polypyrrole (PDA-Ag-PPy) that can be used for the microextraction in packed syringe (MEPS) of tricyclic antidepressants from urine samples. The PDA-Ag-PPy composite was prepared in-situ by the reduction of silver ion - doped PPy during oxidative polymerization of dopamine. The PDA-Ag coatings on the nanoribbon – shaped PPy represent a highly porous, inorganic–organic hybrid nanomaterial that has a wide range of applications.     In this paper, we present a novel approach to generate images of extended depth-of-field (DOF) to support realization of three-dimensional (3D) imaging systems such as integral imaging. In our approach in extending the DOF, we take advantage of the spatial frequency spectrum of the object specific to the task in hand. The pupil function is thus engineered in such a fashion that the modulation transfer function (MTF) is maximized only in these selected spatial frequencies.     Abstract
    Because of corrosion resistance and antibacterial effects, shape memory Ni-Ti-Ag alloy can be considered for different biomedical applications. Mechanical alloying is used to produce nanostructured Ni-Ti-Ag alloy from elemental powders. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) are used to characterize the product. Results show that after 1h milling, homogenous distribution of the elements occurs; while no intermetallic compounds is observed.     A novel approach for the design of wideband doubly curved shaped reflector antennas is introduced. By assuming a virtual aperture in front of the feed antenna and using a PObased near-field method, a fast and precise method for the design of doubly curved shaped reflector antennas is introduces.     An electro membrane extraction (EME) methodology was utilized to study the isolation of some environmentally important pollutants, such as chlorophenols, from aquatic media based upon the electrokinetic migration process. The analytes were transported by application of an electrical potential difference over a supported liquid membrane (SLM).     In this study, Cu-TiC nanocomposites were produced by high energy ball milling of elemental powders and in-situ formation of TiC in the copper matrix. Cu-40wt% Ti powder mixture were milled for 60 h, then graphite powder was added, subsequently milling was continued for further 10 h. Based on theoretical calculations, at this composite, the amount of TiC as reinforcement should be 60.25vol% (45.47wt%).     In this study, the potential of using MIL-100(Fe) metal–organic framework (MOF) for loading and controlling the release of dacarbazine (DTIC) was evaluated for in vitro treatment of melanoma. The drug loading was performed during the green synthesis of MIL-100(Fe) in an aqueous media without using any harmful solvents, to obtain MIL-DTIC.     Architectural modification of aluminum matrix composites is considered as an efficient method to improve fracture toughness. Al-DRA (Al-Al/SiC/20 p) composites were fabricated via "powder extrusion-casting- ingot extrusion" route with structures similar to that of reinforced concrete, so that DRA rods were surrounded by unreinforced aluminum. The present study was aimed to use the potential synergistic effects of Melittin and tetracycline to prevent MRSA associated bone implant infection. Chitosan/bioactive glass nanoparticles/tetracycline composite coatings were deposited on hydrothermally etched titanium substrate.     Four derivatives of hyaluronic acid (HA) bearing thiol (HA-SH), hydrazide (HA-hy), 2-dithiopyridyl (HA-SSPy), and aldehyde groups (HA-al) respectively were synthesized.     Abstract
    The concept of three-dimensional (3D) resolvability of an integral imaging system is thoroughly investigated in this research. The general concept of 3D resolution fails to describe the 3D discrimination completely. Then the concepts of the depth-resolution plane and lateral-resolution plane are introduced to show the difference between the conventional 3D spatial resolution and the newly introduced 3D resolvability. Therefore, the different properties of these planes for differentiating lateral spatial variations and axial variations are analyzed in this paper.     Abstract
    In this research we have proposed a new definition for three-dimensional (3-D) integral imaging resolution. The general concept of two-dimensional (2-D) resolution used also for 3-D is failed to describe the 3-D resolvability completely. Thus, the researches focused on resolution improvement in 3-D integral imaging systems, didn't investigate thoroughly the effect of their method on the 3-D quality.     Abstract
    Using a physical optics based near-field method, we have proposed a hierarchy procedure for the design of dual polarized doubly curved reflectors. Using equivalent magnetic and electric currents at the aperture of the feed antenna and employing free space dyadic Green's functions, an optimization was performed for the design of a fan beam shaped reflector, needless of any far-field approximation.     Abstract
    A feasible and low cost approach to implement a nonplanar dual-polarized log-periodic dipole array antenna using printed circuit board (PCB) technology is proposed. The proposed antenna utilizes a very short transition from a coaxial cable to a balanced twin-lead transmission line to realize an ultrawide bandwidth balun, and has two distinct scaling factor values for high and low frequency elements. A prototype of the antenna operating over the frequency range of 1-13 GHz was designed, fabricated, and tested. An average gain of 7 dBi is obtained. Measured VSWR, cross-polarization and front-to-back ratio are better than 2.6, -16 dB, and 22 dB, respectively
