    Abstract
In the upstream asphaltene flow assurance community, both academics and industries are actively involved to predict the asphaltene deposit profile in wellbores and pipelines. The main objective of this study is to contribute to the thermodynamic and transport modeling of asphaltene in order to predict its precipitation, aggregation and deposition. For a better knowledge of the flow properties of asphaltene containing crude oils, it is necessary to understand how asphaltene affect the rheological properties. In this work, the information on such rheological properties of oil-asphaltene slurry systems is provided. The results of rheological experiments for two Iranian crude oils show that the...

    Abstract
This paper is a continuation of our previous paper (part 1; 10.1021/ef401857t), which discussed the roles of different phenomena effecting the deposition of asphaltene from model oil systems and before the onset of asphaltene precipitation. The study in this paper is to understand the depositional tendency of asphaltene using a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) measurements and their corresponding modeling for real crude oil systems with emphasis after the onset of asphaltene precipitation

    Abstract
In the upstream asphaltene flow assurance community, both academics and industries are actively involved to predict the asphaltene deposit profile in wellbores and pipelines. Essential information for such a study is the amount of asphaltenes that can precipitate and, hence, deposit. In this work, the perturbed chain form of the statistical associating fluid theory (PC-SAFT) is applied to predict the asphaltene precipitation onset condition as well as the amount of precipitate under pressure depletion and high-pressure and high-temperature gas injection conditions. Previous PC-SAFT asphaltene studies in crude oil required the compositional data for both flashed gas and flashed liquid. This...

Understanding the polydisperse behavior of asphaltenes during precipitation

    Abstract
Asphaltenes are a polydisperse fraction of the crude oil, the phase behavior of which is significantly affected by the changes in pressure, temperature and composition. The focus of this study is to model the polydisperse asphaltenes' precipitation onset condition and the amount of precipitate from solvent-diluted crude oils using the Perturbed Chain form of the Statistical Associating Fluid Theory (PC-SAFT) over a wide range of crude oil density. Heavy oil and bitumen production can involve diluting with paraffinic solvents. Different fractions of the polydisperse asphaltenes thus precipitated are predicted and when compared to the experimental data show a remarkable matching for different...

SAFT model for upstream asphaltene applications

    Abstract
The increasing incidence of flow assurance problems caused by asphaltene deposition during oil production has motivated the development of numerous theoretical models and experimental methods to analyze this complex phenomenon. Even more challenging are the prediction of the occurrence and the magnitude of asphaltene deposition. It is well accepted that precipitation of asphaltene is a necessary condition for deposition. Hence, a significant amount of work has been devoted to the understanding of the conditions at which asphaltene precipitate from the crude oil. Although, several models seem to work well for correlating available data of onsets of asphaltene precipitation, they usually lack...

Investigation of Oil-Asphaltene Slurry Rheological Behavior

    Abstract
The presence of asphaltene means additional difficulties related to transport and processing due to the increased crude oil viscosity caused by the asphaltene. For a better knowledge of the flow properties of asphaltene containing crude oils, it is necessary to understand how asphaltene affects the rheological properties. The aim of this article is to provide information on such rheological properties of oil-asphaltene slurry systems. The results of rheological experiments show that the non-Newtonian flow curves can be approximated by the Bingham plastic model to determine the apparent viscosity and the yield stress as a function of asphaltene concentration and temperature. An explanation is...

    Abstract
Among the asphaltene flow assurance issues, the most major concern because of asphaltene is its potential to deposit in reservoir, well tubing, flow lines, separators, and other systems along production lines causing significant production losses. Hence, the focus of this study is to understand the depositional tendency of asphaltene using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) measurements. The results are presented in two consecutive papers, with this paper (part 1) dealing with model oil systems. The depositing environment is varied by changing the system temperature, asphaltene polydispersity, solvent (asphaltene stability), depositing surface, and flow rate. This paper...

    Abstract
The effect of electrostatic field on the aggregation rate and aggregate size of asphaltene particles precipitated from three different crude oil samples suspended in a mixture of toluene and n-heptane (a model oil) was investigated. An electrode-embedded glass micro-model utilizing a high-voltage direct current power supply was utilized in this study. The asphaltene particle size and the rate of aggregation under the electric field were monitored using a high-resolution optical microscope and the average aggregate size for asphaltene particles was estimated using image processing software. To investigate the effects of structural parameters on asphaltene aggregation rate, aggregate size and...

    Abstract
Background: While there is a long history of measuring death and disability from injuries, modern research methods must account for the wide spectrum of disability that can occur in an injury, and must provide estimates with sufficient demographic, geographical and temporal detail to be useful for policy makers. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2017 study used methods to provide highly detailed estimates of global injury burden that meet these criteria. Methods: In this study, we report and discuss the methods used in GBD 2017 for injury morbidity and mortality burden estimation. In summary, these methods included estimating cause-specific mortality for every cause of injury, and then...
