, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keyvan, Pegah (Author) ; Roshandel, Ramin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Given the growth of the world's population along with the increase in the percentage of urban population by 2050, the way of responding to food consumption will change in the future. Controlled Environment Agriculture will largely account for future food supply. Vertical Farming is one of these systems. But despite the efficiency of these systems in terms of land and water and also not being affected by weather conditions, the main challenge in these systems is the consumption of energy use per unit of crop production. The cost of energy is about 25 to 40 percent of the total costs. The purpose of this study is to develop an integrated dynamic model for the determination of vertical farm...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Firuzi, Keyvan (Author) ; Vakilian, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Transformers are the key component in power system transmission and distribution networks. Condition based maintenance will increase their expected life and online monitoring is essential to ensure operation reliability. In this work a new approach to transformer online monitoring is provided based on partial discharge (PD) measurement.Multi-source PD signal separated using time-frequency S transform (ST) that is applied to the PD signal waveforms. The resultant ST matrix is then converted to gray scale image from which high level features are extracted using Bag of Words (BoW). Gaussian mixture model (GMM) clustering is used to discover clusters in the feature space. For recognition of...

    Abstract
Partial discharge (PD) signals generated by defects in a transformer insulation can be captured through measurement instruments and they may be used, after preprocessing, to discriminate the PD Sources. Some of the artificial defect models, such as: corona, internal cavity and surface discharge in air are developed in the laboratory. These defect models are put in parallel under a high voltage stress. The PD signals stemmed from these sets of multiple PD sources are captured. In this paper six bandpass Alters (with two MPD 600 devices) are used for feature extraction of these signals. For PD signals discrimination, the Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise density...

Identification of Conductive Particles in Transformer Oil Model using Partial Discharge Signal

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Firuzi, Keyvan (Author) ; Vakilian, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Transformer are one of the most important equipment in transmission and distribution network. Transformer unplanned outage have severe impacts on the continuity of power system operation and is also an irreparable economic harm to power network operators. To improve the reliability of transformers and to achieve an optimum operation cost, online condition monitoring is inevitbale. Information about the quality of the transformer insulation system is known as the best parameter to be monitored in transformer. Since partiale discharge (PD) signals are initiated long before the beginning of a severe damage, monitoring and its evaluation can be employed to warn the operator. Data mining on the...

    Abstract
This paper develops methodology and technique tor the design, analysis, and impie mentation of an adaptive generalized predictive controller (AGPC) for Active Queue Management in TCP Networks. The TCP/AQM dynamic is modeled experimentally as a second-order system with a time delay where its parameters are estimated using the standard gradient algorithm. Based on this model, an AGPC is designed to gain the set-point tracking and robustness. AGPC, as a queue-based control mechanism, responds quickly to traffic changes, thus allowing for high utilization and small loss. We illustrate our results using ns-2 simulations and demonstrate the practical impact of adaptive model reference control on...

Effect of predeformation and heat treatment conditions in the SIMA process on microstructural and mechanical properties of A319 aluminum alloy

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 468, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 130-135 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Arami, H ; Khalifehzadeh, R ; Keyvan, H ; Khomamizadeh, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
In this study the influences of predeformation and heat treatment conditions on stress-induced melt activating process (SIMA) of A319 aluminum alloy were investigated. At 30% of predeformation a dominant globular structure of grains was obtained. However, further increasing of the predeformation rate considerably reduced the shape factor. The holding time of 10-15 min at semi-solid temperature of 580 °C was suggested in order to prevent grain growth. Coarsening of the grains by excess time or temperature of heat treatment reduced the tensile strength of the alloy. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keyvan, Kaveh (Author) ; Ghaemian, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Toufigh, Vahab (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The goal of this research is to study the effect of local microcracking due to step by step pressure loading on the durability properties of geopolymer concrete. To better understand the behavior of GGBS-based GPC under different pressure stress levels, some experiments such as water permeability and water absorption conducted on the samples at each state of damage. Also, non-destructive tests such as ultrasonic waveform and pulse velocity (UPV) was used to quantify the extent of damage at each step. GGBFS and a blend of sodium silicate solution and 10 molar sodium hydroxide solution with SSSH⁄ ratio of 2 were used for production of GPC samples. GPC, OGPC and OPC samples with water to binder...

    Abstract
Transformers are known as one of the most important equipment in power system transmission and distribution network. Safety of transformer insulation is determined mainly by its insulating oil dielectric strength. A major concern which threaten the withstand strength of a liquid insulation is the presence of particle contamination. One of the best methods to detect any abnormality and insulation weakness inside the transformer insulation is based on partial discharge (PD) measurement. Here, to identify the presence of conducting particles inside the transformer insulating oil, the general routine used for PD recognition is employed. This process involves the following steps: current signal...

Multiple partial discharge sources separation using a method based on laplacian score and correlation coefficient techniques

    , Article Electric Power Systems Research ; Volume 210 , 2022 ; 03787796 (ISSN) Javandel, V ; Vakilian, M ; Firuzi, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Partial discharge (PD) activity can be destructive to the transformer insulation, and ultimately may result in total breakdown of the insulation. Partial discharge sources identification in a power transformer enables the operator to evaluate the transformer insulation condition during its lifetime. In order to identify the PD source; in the case of presence of multiple sources; the first step is to capture the PD signals and to extract their specific features. In this contribution, the frequency domain analysis, the time domain analysis and the wavelet transform are employed for feature extraction purpose. In practice, there might be plenty of features, and in each scenario, only some of...

Transformer components impact on compatibility of measured PDs: Comparison of IEC60270 and RF methods

    , Article High Voltage ; Volume 4, Issue 1 , 2019 , Pages 33-40 ; 23977264 (ISSN) Firuzi, K ; Vakilian, M ; Toan Phung, B ; Blackburn, T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Power transformer partial discharge signal measurement using Radio Frequency method has advantages over IEC 60270 'apparent charge' measurement method for online monitoring due to greater immunity against external interference. However, the lack of a well-defined calibration relationship between the two methods is main disadvantage of RF method. Simultaneous measurements, using these two methods, carried out on various transformer PD source models, in laboratory, to investigate main parameters that affect the relationship of results of these two methods. In this paper, factors that influence this relationship are classified into three groups: (i) type of PD sources, (ii) transformer windings...
