    Abstract
This paper investigates the performance of epidemic routing, in mobile social networks (MSNs), which makes use of the store-carry-forward paradigm for communication. Real-life mobility traces show that people have skewed location visiting preferences, with some places visited frequently and some others infrequently. In order to model epidemic routing in MSNs, we first analyze the time taken for a node to meet the first node belonging to a set of nodes restricted to move in a specific subarea. Afterwards, a monolithic stochastic reward net (SRN) is proposed to evaluate the delivery delay and the average number of transmissions under epidemic routing by considering skewed location visiting...

    Abstract
This paper investigates the performance of epidemic routing in mobile social networks considering several communities which are frequently visited by nodes. To this end, a monolithic Stochastic Reward Net (SRN) is proposed to evaluate the delivery delay and the average number of transmissions under epidemic routing by considering skewed location visiting preferences. This model is not scalable enough, in terms of the number of nodes and frequently visited locations. In order to achieve higher scalability, the folding technique is applied to the monolithic model, and an approximate folded SRN is proposed to evaluate performance of epidemic routing. Discrete-event simulation is used to...

Joint Pricing and Inventory Control of Deteriorating Items under Conditions of Finite Production, Partial Backlogging and Lost Sale

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rashidi, Mohammad (Author) ; Haji, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
When demand for a product is price sensitive, pricing and lot sizing decisions are interdependent. Similarly, when a product is highly perishable, the demand may need to be backlogged to avoid costs due to deterioration, i.e., perishability and backlogging are complementary conditions. In this thesis we stablish two economic production quantity models for deteriorating items under conditions of finite production, exponential decay and partial backordering and lost sale. Two joint pricing inventory control models are developed for the problem by employing different modeling approaches over an infinite planning horizon. In two models, customer is viewed to be impatient and the fraction of the...

Anomaly Detection in Software Defined IP Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Rashidi, Majid (Author) ; Akbari, Behzad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With growth in using the Internet and entrance of online stores and internet banks to daily people life, security has become a vital part of this new world. This causes, industrial companies started to produce security devices such as fire walls for protecting network from outside attackers and Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IPS/IDS) for detection of attacks inside network. IPS/IDS causes network overload due to requiring copy of packet or flow information. With introducing Software Defined Networking (SDN) architecture, there is a hope to solve the issue with combining IPS/IDS and SDN features. Therefore, we propose two novel approaches for fast network scanning and SYN Flood...

Improving Write Efficiency in MLC PCM Memory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rashidi, Saeed (Author) ; Sarbazi-Azad, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With increasing number of cores and developing sophisticated applications in today’s computer systems, larger main memory capacity is increasingly demanded. Unfortunately, DRAM cannot satisfy the increasing demand for larger main memory capacity due to its power and scalability limits that makes further scaling of DRAM infeasible. Phase Change Memory (PCM) is one of the most promising candidates to be used at main memory level of the memory hierarchy because it is more scalable, denser, and consumes less standby power compared to DRAM. PCM is a new resistive memory which is capable of storing data based on resistance values. The wide resistance range of PCM allows for storing multiple bits...
