    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 115, Issue 35 , August , 2011 , Pages 17310-17313 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Omid, H ; Delavari H., H ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
An analytical model is proposed to study the effect of particle size on melting enthalpy and entropy of metallic nanoparticles (NPs). The Mott's and Regel's equations for melting entropy in the combination of core average coordination number (CAC) and surface average coordination number (SAC) of freestanding NPs are considered. Clusters of icosahedral (IC), body centered cubic (BCC), and body centered tetragonal (BCT) structure without any vacancies and defects are modeled. Using the variable coordination number made this model to be in good agreement with experimental and molecular dynamic (MD) results of different crystal structures. The model predicts melting entropy and enthalpy of...

Roll bonding behaviour of Al-3003/Al-4043 and Al-3003/Zn sheets

    , Article Metals and Materials International ; Volume 17, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 665-670 ; 15989623 (ISSN) Movahedi, M ; Kokabi, A. H ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Kiani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In the present study, the roll bonding behaviour of Al-3003/Al-4043 and Al-3003/Zn sheets were compared. The bi-layer sheets were produced by a roll bonding process at different reductions in thickness and rolling temperatures. The joint strengths of the sheets were evaluated by peel and bend testing before and after supplemental annealing treatment. The peeled surfaces were examined using a scanning electron microscope. The results indicated that the Al-3003/Al-4043 sheets were bonded with higher joint strength and lower threshold reductions in thickness with respect to the Al-3003/Zn sheets. In contrast to the Al-3003/Zn sheets, significant improvement was observed in the joint strength of...

    Abstract
The influence of thermal cycles on the properties of the coarse grained heat affected zone in X80 microalloyed steel has been investigated. The thermal simulated involved heating the X80 steel specimens to the peak temperature of 1400 °C, with different cooling rates. The four-wire tandem submerged arc welding process, with different heat input values, was used to generate a welded microstructure. The martensite/austenite constituent appeared in the microstructure of the heat affected zone region for all the specimens along the prior-austenite grain boundaries and between the bainitic ferrite laths. The blocky-like and stringer martensite/austenite morphology were observed in the heat...

    , Article Materials and Design ; Volume 88 , 2015 , Pages 932-941 ; 02641275 (ISSN) Azarniya, A ; Hosseini, H. R. M ; Jafari, M ; Bagheri, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2015
    Abstract
The thermal decomposition of Aluminum Titanate in exposure to pure Aluminum was examined both in powder and in bulk form. Optical microscopy, FE-SEM, XRD, DSC and TGA examinations were conducted to take the possible chemical reactions between Aluminum Titanate and Al into consideration. It was found that as Aluminum Titanate particles are exposed to Al matrix, the thermal stability of Aluminum Titanate is degraded and its decomposition temperature is reduced from 850°C to 550°C. Also, the chemical reactions between Aluminum Titanate and Al start along the interfaces, and the reaction products, i.e. Al3Ti, Al2O3, TiO2 and O2 gas are left there. A mechanism was suggested to describe the...

    Abstract
The effect of milling time on the magnetic properties of FINEMET amorphous ribbons has been investigated using X-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy, thermo-magnetic measurements, transmission electron microscopy and SQUID magnetometery. Ribbons were melt-spun at a wheel speed of 38 ms-1 and then mechanically milled for different periods up to 45 min. The results showed that the partially crystallization of the amorphous powder occurs during milling. TEM observations confirmed the formation of small volume fraction of the crystalline phase with ∼9 nm crystallite size in the amorphous matrix for the ribbon milled for 45 min. Thermo-magnetic measurements indicated the enhancement of the...

    Abstract
Abstract In this study, aluminium titanate (AT) particles and nanofibers were synthesized through citrate sol gel and sol gel-assisted electrospinning methods in both nanostructured powder and nanofiber forms. The results of X-ray diffraction analysis, field-emission scanning electron microscopy and differential thermal analysis showed that the synthetic products benefit a nanostructured nature with a grain size less than 70 nm. The optimal values for time and temperature at which a roughly pure AT is attained were determined as 2 h and 900 C, respectively. It was found that the sol gel precursor bears an amorphous structure till 700 C and begins to be crystallized to alumina, anatase and AT...

New rectangular partitioning methods for lossless binary image compression

    , Article International Conference on Signal Processing Proceedings, ICSP, 24 October 2010 through 28 October 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 694-697 ; 9781424458981 (ISBN) Kafashan, M ; Hosseini, H ; Beygiharchegani, S ; Pad, P ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we propose two lossless compression techniques that represent a two dimensional Run-length Coding which can achieve high compression ratio. This method works by partitioning the block regions of the input image into rectangles instead of working by runs of adjacent pixels, so it is found to be more efficient than 1D RLE Run-length Coding for transmitting texts and image. In the first method, length and width of consecutive black and white rectangles are transmitted. The idea of this method is new and it can be very effective for some images which have large blocks of black or white pixels. But in the second method only black rectangles are considered in order to transmit and...

    Abstract
Air passages of an aircraft fuel system are manufactured from 4130 steel tubes brazed using BNi-4 filler metal. It was observed that brazed tubes leak after flying about 100 h. In this case study, microscopy techniques and hardness measurements were employed to identify the root cause of this failure. It was found that wide joint clearance promotes brittle phases at the joint centerline which can act as crack nucleation sites under thermal expansion and misalignment stresses. Based on the obtained results, joint clearance was reduced to optimum value. This reduction prohibited the occurrence of leakage and solved the problem

Welding characteristics of ultrahigh strength steel in annealed and quench-tempered conditions

    , Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Volume 19, Issue 7 , 2010 , Pages 963-969 ; 10599495 (ISSN) Roshanghias, A ; Barzegari, M ; Kokabi, A. H ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this research, the welding characteristics of a new UHSLA steel, 35NiCrMoV123, have been studied in two general conditions (annealed and quench-tempered). Carbon equivalent value of 35NiCrMoV123 steel is near 0.9 which classifies it as a "very difficult to weld" steel. The effects of welding heat treatment cycle (preheat, interpass, and postheat) on metallurgical and mechanical properties of weldments have been investigated by tensile, impact toughness, and hardness tests, as well as optical microscopy observations. It has been observed that by employing high-temperature stress relief (600 °C), welding could be performed in annealed condition successfully. Also, the results indicate that...
