    , Article Particulate Science and Technology ; Volume 28, Issue 4 , Aug , 2010 , Pages 332-347 ; 02726351 (ISSN) Hanafizadeh, P ; Saidi, M. H ; Karimi, A ; Zamiri, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Airlift pumps are devices with the ability to lift liquid phase by injecting the gas phase. Parameters that affect the performance of these pumps are divided into two groups. The first group contains design parameters such as diameter of the pipe, tapering angle of the upriser pipe, and the submergence ratio, which is the ratio of immersed length to the total length of the upriser. The second group includes operating parameters such as the gas flow rate, bubble diameter, bubble distribution, and inlet gas pressure. In this research, the performance of an airlift pump is investigated numerically for different submergence ratios and different diameter of the upriser pipe. For this purpose, an...

    , Article Osteoarthritis and Cartilage ; Volume 18, Issue 6 , 2010 , Pages 755-759 ; 10634584 (ISSN) Mazaheri, M ; Salavati, M ; Negahban, H ; Sohani, S. M ; Taghizadeh, F ; Feizi, A ; Karimi, A ; Parnianpour, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Objective: To translate the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) into Persian and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of FAAM. Methods: 93 patients with a range of foot and ankle disorders, completed the Persian version of the FAAM and Short-Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) in the test session. With an interval of 2-6 days, 60 patients filled out the FAAM in the retest session. The FAAM is composed of two subscales including activities of daily living (ADL) and SPORTS. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha, test-retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and standard error of measurement (s.e.m.), item internal consistency...

Co-deposition process of RF-Sputtering and RF-PECVD of copper/carbon nanocomposite films

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 202, Issue 12 , 2008 , Pages 2731-2736 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Ghodselahi, T ; Vesaghi, M. A ; Shafiekhani, A ; Baradaran, A ; Karimi, A ; Mobini, Z ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Nanoparticle copper/carbon composite films were prepared by co-deposition of RF-Sputtering and RF-PECVD method from acetylene gas and copper target. We investigate deposition process in the region where by changing pressure, the process converts to physical sputtering mode in constant power regime and at a critical pressure between 1.5 to 3 Pa. The estimated value of mean ion energy at this critical point of pressure is close to threshold energy of physical sputtering of copper atoms by acetylene ions. By utilizing this property and by setting initial pressure from 1.3 to 6.6 Pa, nanoparticles copper/carbon composite films were grown with different copper content. The Copper content of our...

General approach to enhance flying qualities via dynamic balancing of aircraft mass

    , Article Journal of Aircraft ; Volume 45, Issue 1 , 2008 , Pages 130-141 ; 00218669 (ISSN) Malaek, S. M ; Karimi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This work describes a new mathematical model to predict the so-called aircraft handling qualities via proper positioning of aircraft mass in the early stages of the design process. The methodology aims to help make handling qualities and therefore pilot rating an integral part of the design process. The main idea is to And proper mass distributions for an aircraft in given flight conditions based on the well-known quantitative measures of flying qualities described in military standards. The proposed methodology allows aircraft designers to associate a density to different segments of an aircraft and have a prior insight about an optimum arrangement of internal parts such as fuel tanks,...

    Abstract
STUDY DESIGN. Cultural translation and psychometric testing. OBJECTIVE. To translate and validate the Iranian versions of the Neck Disability Index (NDI-IR) and the Neck Pain and Disability Scale (NPDS-IR). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA. The widely used the NDI and the NPDS scales have not been translated and validated for Persian-speaking patients with neck pain. This was to provide a validated instrument to measure functional status in patients with neck pain in Iran. METHODS. The translation and cultural adaptation of the original questionnaires were carried out in accordance with the published guidelines. One hundred and eighty-five patients with neck pain were participated in the study....

Applying uncertainty parameters to the HTCOM model for multipurpose reservoirs

    , Article International Journal on Hydropower and Dams ; Volume 13, Issue 3 , 2006 , Pages 121-125 ; 13522523 (ISSN) Ardakanian, R ; Karimi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
Coordinated operation of hydro-thermal power systems helps reduce generation costs. The Hydro-Thermal Coordinating Model (HTCOM) software package, as one of these models, determines long-term operational policies for a hydro-thermal power system with multipurpose reservoirs. The CLT was incorporated within this framework to ensure a logical time-based run-time, with no serious decrease in precision. HTCOM, based on both its theoretical background and its application in the KWPA system, has shown that it can handle real world problems successfully, with more reliable outcomes. Many models have also been developed to optimize the planning of hydro-thermal systems. HTCOM was developed and...

Direct controller order reduction by identification in closed loop

    , Article Automatica ; Volume 37, Issue 11 , 2001 , Pages 1689-1702 ; 00051098 (ISSN) Landau, I. D ; Karimi, A ; Constantinescu, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2001
    Abstract
The paper addresses the problem of directly estimating the parameters of a reduced order digital controller using a closed loop type identification algorithm. The algorithm minimizes the closed loop plant input error between the nominal closed loop system and the closed loop system using the reduced order controller. It is assumed that a plant model (if necessary validated in closed loop with the nominal controller) is available. One of the original features of this approach is that it can use either simulated or real data. The frequency bias distribution of the parameter estimates shows that the reduced order controller maintains the critical performance of the nominal closed loop system. A...
