    Collective excitations and the nature of Mott transition in undoped gapped graphene

    Abstract
    The particle-hole continuum (PHC) for massive Dirac fermions provides an unprecedented opportunity for the formation of two collective split-off states, one in the singlet and the other in the triplet (spin-1) channel, when the short-range interactions are added to the undoped system. Both states are close in energy and are separated from the continuum of free particle-hole excitations by an energy scale of the order of the gap parameter Δ. They both disperse linearly with two different velocities, reminiscent of spin-charge separation in Luttinger liquids.     Abstract
    Nanotechnology has emerged as a key technology which has opened new vistas to find effective therapies for cancer. Nanomaterials are particularly promising candidates for early diagnosis of cancer cells. Several classes of nanomaterials, including dendritic and supramolecular polymers, carbon nanotubes, graphene and metal nanoparticles, have shown tremendous ability to recognize and destroy cancer cells in vivo.     In this paper we show how the higher index theory can be used to prove results concerning the non-existence of a complete Riemannian metric with uniformly positive scalar curvature at infinity.     Abstract
    Mesoscopic hydrodynamic equations are solved to investigate coarsening dynamics of two interacting nanodroplets on chemically patterned substrates. The effects of different parameters such as the surface chemical pattern, the slip length, the profile of the disjoining pressure, the size of the droplets, and the contact angles on the coarsening are studied. Our results reveal that the presence of a chemical heterogeneity can enhance or weaken the coarsening dynamics depending on the pattern type and positions of the droplets on the substrate.     With increasing use of data transmission between digital systems as well as subsystems, the need for more reliable communication is felt. In this research, a new approach to the linear error correcting codes is introduced. Among advantages of this technique are simpler code construction and also decoding algorithm, as well as easier understanding of the basic concept.     Modeling of austenite to ferrite transformation

    Abstract
    In this research, an algorithm based on the Q-state Potts model is presented for modeling the austenite to ferrite transformation. In the algorithm, it is possible to exactly track boundary migration of the phase formed during transformation. In the algorithm, effects of changes in chemical free energy, strain free energy and interfacial energies of austenite-austenite, ferrite-ferrite and austenite-ferrite during transformation are considered. From the algorithm, the kinetics of transformation and mean ferrite grain size for different cooling rates are calculated. It is found that there is a good agreement between the calculated and experimental results

    Research on convective heat transfer coefficient around a rod bundle has many diverse applications in industry. So far, many studies have been conducted in correlations related to internal and turbulent fully-developed flow.     The left-hand side of the auroral hiss emission observed by Galileo has a frequency time profile shaped very similar to the funnel shape observed in the Earth's auroral region. This close similarity indicates that we can use the theory of whistler-mode propagation near the resonance cone to locate the emission source.     We use the detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA), the detrended cross correlation analysis (DCCA) and the magnitude and sign decomposition analysis to study the fluctuations in the turbulent time series and to probe long-term nonlinear levels of complexity in weakly and high turbulent flow. The DFA analysis indicate that there is a time scaling region in the fluctuation function, segregating regimes with different scaling exponents. We discuss that this time scaling region is related to inertial range in turbulent flows. The DCCA exponent implies the presence of power-law cross correlations.     Nonlinear optical response in gapped graphene

    Abstract
    We present a formulation for the nonlinear optical response in gapped graphene, where the low-energy single-particle spectrum is modeled by massive Dirac theory. As a representative example of the formulation presented here, we obtain a closed form formula for the third harmonic generation in gapped graphene. It turns out that the covariant form of the low-energy theory gives rise to peculiar logarithmic singularities in the nonlinear optical spectra. The universal functional dependence of the response function on dimensionless quantities indicates that the optical nonlinearity can be largely enhanced by tuning the gap to smaller values

    In this paper an analytical solution for size-dependent response of cantilever micro-beams is presented. Using the modified couple stress theory, the small scale effects are accounted for. Employing the Modified Variational Iteration Method, efficient and accurate analytical expressions for the deflection of the micro-beam are presented.     The Blaschke-Petkantschin formula is a geometric measure decomposition of the q-fold product of Lebesgue measure on ℝ n. Here we discuss another decomposition called polar decomposition by considering ℝ n× ×ℝ n as n×k and using its polar decomposition. This is a generalisation of the Blaschke-Petkantschin formula and may be useful when one needs to integrate a function g:ℝ n××ℝ n→ℝ with rotational symmetry, that is, for each orthogonal transformation O,g(O(x1),O(xk))=g(x1,xk) .     Many real-world networks show community structure characterized by dense intra-community connections and sparse inter-community links. In this paper we investigated the synchronization properties of such networks. In this work we constructed such networks in a way that they consist of a number of communities with scale-free or small-world structure.
