    Abstract
Although Multi-Walled Carbon NanoTubes (MWCNTs) are found to influence the rheological behavior of drilling fluids, there are yet some controversies regarding their performance towards reducing formation damage induced by the invasion of water-based drilling fluids (WBFs). To address this important question, we synthesized novel nanocomposite materials via modifying the MWCNT via varying the proportion of carboxylated MWCNTs to PolyVinyl Alcohol (PVA). These nanocomposites were then used to make nano-based drilling-fluids (NDFs). The performance of the NDFs was evaluated by a set of rheological behavior tests, filtration experiments, and core-scale mud flow tests. To distinguish between the...

    Abstract
The effect of the nucleating agent masterbatch carrier resin on the nonisothermal crystallization of a pipe-grade polypropylene block copolymer was investigated at three different cooling rates using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Bis(3,4-dimethylibenzylidene) sorbitol (DMDBS), a well-known, third-generation sorbitol derivative, was used as a nucleating agent in this study. Crystallization kinetic parameters obtained from DSC cooling curves showed that incorporation of a nucleating agent by means of a masterbatch increased the crystallization rate by approximately two times compared to that of the sample with the same concentration of nucleating agent without the use of a...

    Abstract
Myocardial infarction is a major cause of death worldwide and remains a social and healthcare burden. Injectable hydrogels with the ability to locally deliver drugs or cells to the damaged area can revolutionize the treatment of heart diseases. Herein, we formulate a thermo-responsive and injectable hydrogel based on conjugated chitosan/poloxamers for cardiac repair. To tailor the mechanical properties and electrical signal transmission, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with an average diameter of 50 nm were physically bonded to oxidized bacterial nanocellulose fibers (OBC) and added to the thermosensitive hydrogel at the ratio of 1% w/v. The prepared hydrogels have a porous structure with open...

    Abstract
Objective(s): Bioresorbable scaffolds have been advocated as the new generation in interventional cardiology because they could provide temporary scaffolds and then disappear with resorption. Although, the available stents in clinical trials exhibited biosafety, efficacy, no death, and no apparent thrombosis, Mg-substrate degradation on drug release has not been investigated. Materials and Methods: Therefore, more research has been needed to legitimize the replacement of current stents with Mg-based stents. UV-Vis spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), pH measurement, H2 evolution, and corrosion tests determined the change in hybrid properties and...

    Abstract
Flow sensors play a critical role in monitoring flow parameters, including rate, velocity, direction, and rotation frequency. In this paper, inspired by biological hair cells in the human vestibular system, an innovative flow sensor is developed based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel nanocomposites with a maze-like network of vertically grown graphene nanosheets (VGNs). The VGNs/PVA hydrogel absorbs a copious amount of water when immersed in water, making the sensor highly sensitive to tiny stimuli underwater. The sensor demonstrates a high sensitivity (5.755 mV (mm s−1)−1) and extremely low velocity detection (0.022 mm s−1). It also reveals outstanding performance in detecting...

Computational insight into networking H-bonds in open and cyclic forms of glucose

    , Article Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry ; Volume 35, Issue 1 , 2022 ; 08943230 (ISSN) Kotena, Z. M ; Fattahi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Ltd  2022
    Abstract
We have studied the intramolecular H-bonds existing in cyclic and open forms of glucose using B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level, AIM, and NBO methods. The theoretical results indicated that based on acidity values, (ΔHacid), glucose in the open form is more acidic than cyclic form. The acidity values for open and cyclic glucose (332 and 338 kcal/mol) exhibit significantly lower values (i.e., stronger acid) than the reported acidity values for α-/ß-anomers of D-glucopyranose and simple alcohols. Because their conjugate bases are more stabilized through trifurcated and bifurcated intramolecular H-bonds. AIM analysis showed normal H-bonds in the conjugate bases of open glucose (O-Glc), bifurcated, and...

    Abstract
Nature-inspired coating with polydopamine (PDA) is a promising way to improve the performance of graphene oxide (GO) based nanocomposites due to its high ability to enhance interactions in matrix-disperse systems. Here, we examined the capability of two types of PDA to develop the reinforced polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/GO hydrogels. In the first mode, dopamine hydrochloride was polymerized as nanoparticles and then incorporated into PVA solution with GO nanoplatelets (P-NG hydrogel). In the second mode, polydopamine was polymerized in the presence of GO nanoparticles to obtain PDA surface-modified GO and then PVA nanocomposite hydrogel (P-CG sample). Rheological and tensile findings revealed...
