Density functional calculation is being carried out on both the free nickel Schiff-base complex and that encapsulated in NaY zeolite to investigate changes in structural parameters, energies of the HOMO and LUMO, and absolute hardness and softness. Electrochemical properties of the NaY...

Effect of hydrogen bonds on pK a values: Importance of networking

    , Article Journal of the American Chemical Society ; Volume 134, Issue 25 , 2012 , Pages 10646-10650 ; 00027863 (ISSN) Shokri, A ; Abedin, A ; Fattahi, A ; Kass, S. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The pK a of an acyclic aliphatic heptaol ((HOCH 2CH 2CH(OH)CH 2) 3COH) was measured in DMSO, and its gas-phase acidity is reported as well. This tertiary alcohol was found to be 10 21 times more acidic than tert-butyl alcohol in DMSO and an order of magnitude more acidic than acetic acid (i.e., pK a = 11.4 vs 12.3). This can be attributed to a 21.9 kcal mol -1 stabilization of the charged oxygen center in the conjugate base by three hydrogen bonds and another 6.3 kcal mol -1 stabilization resulting from an additional three hydrogen bonds between the uncharged primary and secondary hydroxyl groups. Charge delocalization by both the first and second solvation shells may be used to facilitate...

    Abstract
In this work, phosphorus-31 and aluminum-27 nuclear magnetic resonance techniques were used to characterize the distribution of soluble aluminophosphate species in methanol + water and ethanol + water mixtures. The assignment of the peaks to alu-minate species was attempted, clarifying earlier work and producing information on the different aluminophosphate complexes. Nine peaks were observed at -0.41, -6.4, -7.5, -7.9, -13.1, -13.9, -16.6, -18.1 and -20.6 ppm. Four new peaks appeared in the 31P NMR spectra of the alcoholic aluminophosphate solutions and their intensities changed with changes of the alcohol:water volume ratio. These new peaks were observed in the presence of methanol or...

    Abstract
CeO 2-TiO 2 nanoparticles were prepared by the sol-gel process using 2-hydroxylethylammonium formate as room-temperature ionic liquid and calcined at different temperatures (500-700°C). CeO 2-TiO 2-graphene nanocomposites were prepared by hydrothermal reaction of graphene oxide with CeO 2-TiO 2 nanoparticles in aqueous solution of ethanol. The photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, BET surface area, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transformed infrared techniques. The results demonstrate that the room-temperature ionic liquid inhibits the anatase-rutile phase transformation. This effect was promoted by addition of CeO 2 to TiO 2....

    , Article Materials and Design ; Volume 32, Issue 7 , 2011 , Pages 3933-3941 ; 02641275 (ISSN) Amrollahi, M ; Sadeghi, G. M. M ; Kashcooli, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Polyurethane elastomer networks were designed and synthesized based on hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene/polypropyleneoxide (HTPB/PPO) mixtures, 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and 1,4-butanediol. Various networks with different molar ratio of HTPB to PPO (0/100, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25 and 100/0) had been prepared. Depending on the length of soft segment, average functionality of polyol mixtures, mechanical and thermal properties of samples were varied. Our observations confirmed that final properties of the networks can be attributed to two synergistic factors: (a) formation of chemical network (crosslinking) and (b) soft segment length. An optimum composition was found. This optimum composition...

    , Article Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry ; Volume 652, Issue 1-2 , 2011 , Pages 8-12 ; 15726657 (ISSN) Jafarian, M ; Babaee, M ; Gobal, F ; Mahjani, M. G ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Electro-oxidation of alcohols (methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol) on nickel dispersed into a thick layer of poly-o-aminophenol on graphite electrode (GE/POAP-SDS/Ni) was investigated. Ni-doping into the polymeric film was achieved chemically followed by enrichment of Ni(III) through cycling the potential. The electro-oxidation of alcohols on GE/POAP-SDS/Ni were found to be dominated by direct electro-oxidation with some contribution from Ni(II)/Ni(III) couple. Rate constants for the electro-oxidation of methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol as derived by chronoamperometry were 1.65 × 105, 1.31 × 105, 2.53 × 104 and 1.40 × 104 cm3 mol-1 s-1, respectively. Impedance...

Comparison between the artificial neural network system and SAFT equation in obtaining vapor pressure and liquid density of pure alcohols

    , Article Expert Systems with Applications ; Volume 38, Issue 3 , 2011 , Pages 1738-1747 ; 09574174 (ISSN) Rohani, A. A ; Pazuki, G ; Najafabadi, H. A ; Seyfi, S ; Vossoughi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Vapor pressure and liquid density of 20 pure alcohols were correlated using an artificial neural network (ANN) system and statistical associating fluid theory (SAFT) equation of state. The SAFT equation has five adjustable parameters as temperature-independent segment diameter, square-well energy, number of segment per chain, association energy and association volume. These parameters can be obtained by a non-linear regression method using the experimental vapor pressure and liquid density data. In continue, the vapor pressure and liquid densities of pure alcohols were estimated by using an artificial neural network (ANN) system. In the neural network system, it is assumed that thermodynamic...

Development of a novel Peng–Robinson plus association equation of state for industrially important associating compounds

    , Article Neural Computing and Applications ; Nov , 2015 , Pages 1-9 ; 09410643 (ISSN) Eslami, L ; Khadem Hamedani, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer-Verlag London Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Cubic plus association (CPA) equations of state (EoSs) have found great interest in describing thermodynamic properties of associating fluids. In CPA EoSs, the association contribution proposed by Wertheim is added to cubic EoSs such as Soave–Redlich–Kwong (SRK) and Peng–Robinson (PR). In different developments of CPA EoSs, adjusting the pure component properties such as critical temperature and critical pressure in addition to the association parameters is proposed in some works in the literature. In this work, the PR EoS has been extended to water, phenol, and a number of alcohols (methanol up to dodecanol) by addition of the Wertheim association contribution. In contrast to other CPA...

    Abstract
In this work, central composite design (CCD) as a statistical experimental design method is performed to prepare nickel nano-particle of different magnetic domain regimes by the modified polyol process. It is shown that not only the concentration of the different chemicals but also the injection rate is determining for the morphology and magnetic properties. The average diameter of the synthesized nickel NPs is smaller than the critical single domain size and thus the single domain or pseudo-single domain nickel nano-particles can be prepared based on Day's plot
