    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 1460 , 2016 , Pages 1-8 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Banihashemi, S ; Jelvani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B. V
    Abstract
A nanocomposite consisting of polythiophene–silver was prepared and implemented as a desired sorbent for headspace needle trap extraction. Colloidal silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) with narrow size distribution and high stability were synthesized in water–in–oil microemulsion. This simple procedure was adapted to prepare highly monodispersed Ag NPs, starting from an initial synthesis in sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) reverse micelles. Polythiophene (PT) was synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization in the presence of anhydrous ferric chloride while its polymeric structure was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). Eventually, the prepared PT was...

    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 1152, Issue 1-2 , 2007 , Pages 168-174 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Babanezhad, E ; Eshaghi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
A fiber coating from polyaniline (PANI) was electrochemically prepared and employed for solid phase microextraction (SPME) of some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from water samples. The PANI film was directly electrodeposited on the platinum wire surface in sulfuric acid solution using cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. The applicability of this coating was assessed employing a laboratory-made SPME device and gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for the extraction of some PAHs from the headspace of aqueous samples. Application of wider potential range in CV led to a PANI with more stability against the temperature. The homogeneity and the porous surface structure of the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samiee Gohar, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Molaei Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor) ; Arabian, Daryoush (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
TPPB are characterized by a cell-containing aqueous phase, and an immiscible and biocompatible organic phase that partitions toxic/insoluble substrates to the cells base on their metabolic demand and the thermodynamic equilibrium of the system. Surface areas, Mass transfer coefficient, Hydrophobicity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are considered as limitation in two phase partition bioreactors (TPPB). For solving of this challenge, in this project used solid particle for increment of mss transfer and surface area, and also solid particles can eliminate limitation of initial concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and ratio of aqueous/organic phases. Naphthalene is used as...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bokaee, Shima (Author) ; Borghei, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Vossoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor) ; Zeinali, Majid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to the environmental lows and standards, wastewater of petroleum industries such as refineries and petrochemical that include many petroleum compounds like aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, must be treated up to desirable limit, before entering the collecting network. Using microorganisms is one of the fundamental ways of biodegradation of these polluted compounds. Since phenolic compounds are the main components of raw petroleum, strains that are capable of tolerating phenol and usage of this poisonous hydrocarbon are specifically important. Therefore, in this study the potentiality of the indigenous thermophilic bacterium Nocardia otitidiscaviarum strain TSH1, for degradation...

Improving the Remediation Process of Asphaltene Deposits in the Well Facility of Koupal-Bangestan Oil Reservoir

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagherian, Mahmood (Author) ; Ayatollahi, Shahaboddin (Supervisor) ; Ghotbi, Cyrus (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Crude oil production could cause the thermodynamic equilibrium of the crude oil to be disturbed in the well column which results in asphaltene precipitation and deposition. The thickness of the deposited material grows over time until it completely blocks the well column.Due to the hard and insoluble nature of deposited asphaltene, the two main chemical and mechanical methods are found to be more effective. It should be noted that the actual organic sediments in the piping are not pure and consist of three components: asphaltene, resin and paraffin. Therefore, it is very important to know the composition of the deposited material before selecting the appropriate chemical solvent. The samples...

Development of a Kinetic Model for Thermal Cracking of Aromatic Hydrocarbon Feeds

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei Babadi, Ebrahim (Author) ; Khorasheh, Farhad (Supervisor) ; Ivakpour, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Most refineries are looking for a process in order to remove heavy compounds and convert them into lighter, more valuable materials. Among the various remaining upgrade processes, non-catalytic heating processes are very attractive and have gotten a wider scope worldwide because the feed used for the upgrade process is high in metal and sulfur, which causes the catalyst surface to become toxic and inactive. Due to that, the thermal cracking process is more suitable for such feeds than the catalytic cracking process. Due to the reduction of sweet crude oil resources and the heavier refinery feeds and increase in amount of global fuel needs, refineries must process a larger share of feed in...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghassa, Mahya (Author) ; Khorashe, Farhad (Supervisor) ; Hajjar, Zeinab (Co-Supervisor) ; Soltanali, Saeed (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
During fuel combustion, aromatic sulfur compounds in energy fuels convert into sulfur oxides, which cause major environmental problems such as acidic rain, global warming, and air pollution. Absorption desulfurization is one of the promising and economical methods to remove these sulfur compounds from fuels. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of nanoporous materials that are of interest for use as adsorbents due to their high specific surface area, unique surface adsorption properties, high adsorption capacity, tunable porosity, flexible dynamic behavior, and diversity in functional and metal groups. In this research, we first synthesized five metal-organic frameworks, namely...

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry B ; Volume 121, Issue 32 , 2017 , Pages 7633-7645 ; 15206106 (ISSN) Kalhor, H. R ; Jabbari, M. P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Conformational diseases have been investigated extensively in recent years; as a result, a number of drug candidates have been introduced as amyloid inhibitors; however, no effective therapies have been put forward. RS-0406 with pyridazine as its core chemical structure has so far shown promising results in inhibiting amyloid formation. In the present work, using molecular dynamics, we undertook the investigation of RS-0406 interactions with U-shaped Aβ1−42 and Aβ1−40 pentamers, Aβ1−42 monomers, and double-horseshoe-like Aβ1−42. To set better parameters for the small molecule, experimental and computational log P values were obtained. In addition, an analogue of RS-0406 was also simulated...

Effects of topological constraints on linked ring polymers in solvents of varying quality

    , Article Soft Matter ; Volume 16, Issue 12 , 2020 , Pages 3029-3038 Ahmadian Dehaghani, Z ; Chubak, I ; Likos, C. N ; Ejtehadi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We investigate the effects of topological constraints in catenanes composed of interlinked ring polymers on their size in a good solvent as well as on the location of their θ-point when the solvent quality is worsened. We mainly focus on poly[n]catenanes consisting of n ring polymers each of length m interlocked in a linear fashion. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we study the scaling of the poly[n]catenane's radius of gyration in a good solvent, assuming in general that Rg ∼ mμnν and we find that μ = 0.65 ± 0.02 and ν = 0.60 ± 0.01 for the range of n and m considered. These findings are further rationalized with the help of a mean-field Flory-like theory yielding the values of μ =...

    , Article Journal of Molecular Catalysis A: Chemical ; Volume 245, Issue 1-2 , 2006 , Pages 12-16 ; 13811169 (ISSN) Boghaei, D. M ; Bezaatpour, A ; Behzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
This article describes the synthesis and characterization of two novel, as well as four previously reported, Schiff base complexes of oxovanadium(IV) and the study of their catalytic reactivity in the aerobic oxidation of olefins. The novel (5-Br-3-NO2salen) and (5-Br-3-NO2meso-stein) ligands were, respectively, synthesized from condensation of 5-bromo-3-nitro-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde with ethylenediamine or meso-1,2-diphenyl-1,2-ethylenediamine. The reaction of these ligands with VO(acac)2 readily resulted in the synthesis of their oxovanadium(IV) complexes [VO(5-Br-3-NO2salen)] and [VO(5-Br-3-NO2meso- stein)], respectively. The novel ligands and complexes were deliberately designed to...

Solvent parameters effects on the second-order rate constants of the reaction of 2-chloro-3,5-dinitropyridine with aniline in aqueous solutions of alcohols

    , Article Progress in Reaction Kinetics and Mechanism ; Volume 31, Issue 2 , 2006 , Pages 117-127 ; 14686783 (ISSN) Harifi Mood, A. R ; Masumpour, M. S ; Gholami, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Science Reviews Ltd  2006
    Abstract
Aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction kinetics of 2-chloro-3,5-dinitropyridine with aniline was studied in aqueous solutions of methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol at room temperature. The obtained results for aqueous solutions indicate that the second-order rate constants are in order of 2-propanol>ethanol>methanol with a maximum at water mole fraction of 0.9. The influence of solvent parameters including normalized polarity (E TN), dipolarity/polarisability (π*), and hydrogen bond donor acidity (α) on the second-order rate constants were investigated and multiple regressions gave much better results with regard to single parameter regressions. Dipolarity/polarisability and hydrogen...

    Abstract
The solvatochromic parameters (ETN, normalized polarity parameter; π*, dipolarity/polarizability; β, hydrogen-bond acceptor basicity; α, hydrogen-bond donor acidity) were determined for binary solvent mixtures of 1-(1-butyl)-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim]BF4) with water, methanol, and ethanol at 25°C over the whole range of mole fractions. In nonaqueous solutions, the ETN value of the mixture increases with mole the fraction of [bmim]BF4 and then decreases gradually to the value of pure [bmim]BF4. Positive deviation from ideal behavior was observed for the solvent parameters ETN, π*, and α, whereas the deviation of the β parameter is negative. The applicability of the combined...
