Dynamics of Timoshenko beams on Pasternak foundation under moving load

    , Article Mechanics Research Communications ; Volume 31, Issue 6 , 2004 , Pages 713-723 ; 00936413 (ISSN) Kargarnovin, M. H ; Younesian, D ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
The response of a Timoshenko beam with uniform cross-section and infinite length supported by a generalized Pasternak-type viscoelastic foundation subjected to an arbitrary-distributed harmonic moving load is studied in this paper. Governing equations are solved using complex Fourier transformation in conjunction with the residue and convolution integral theorems. The solution is directed to compute the deflection, bending moment and shear force distribution along the beam length. A parametric study is carried out for an elliptical load distribution and influences of the load speed and frequency on the beam responses are investigated. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. The fractal array and the fibonnaci sierpinski gasket

    , Article IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Symposium 2004 Digest held in Conjunction with: USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting, Monterey, CA, 20 June 2004 through 25 June 2004 ; Volume 2 , 2004 , Pages 1291-1294 ; 02724693 (ISSN) Barkeshli, K ; Toghraee, R ; Salimi, K ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We have constructed the Koch array factor using decomposition of the array factor and solving it with matrix methods, rather than regular inverse Fourier transform method. With the aid of non-uniform sampling we have made some improvements in the main beam while the array elements are reduced significantly. We have also consider the Fibonnaci Sierpinski gasket

Further investigation into a novel concept for a deformable joint in offshore structures

    , Article 22nd International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering; Offshore Technology Ocean Space Utilization, Cancun, 8 June 2003 through 13 June 2003 ; Volume 1 , 2003 , Pages 479-487 Khonsari, S. V ; England, G. L ; Parvinnia, S. M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
A new general semi-rigid beam-to-column connection for skeletal structures, also applicable to offshore platforms, was devised. In a previous paper (OMAE02-28264), the general features of this joint together with some proposed details for its use in fabricating new platforms, as well as retrofitting and repair of existing platforms, were introduced. Moreover, the results of some quasi-static tests on the 'original' version of the connection, in which the energy-dissipating elements (tubes) of the connection are laid in a parallel relation to the axis of bending, were reported. Here, in this paper, the results of recent experimental work on the 'alternate' version of the connection, in which...

Cyclic loading response of simple moment-resisting precast concrete beam-column connection

    , Article ACI Structural Journal ; Volume 100, Issue 4 , 2003 , Pages 440-445 ; 08893241 (ISSN) Khaloo, A. R ; Parastesh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
In this study, test results of four precast concrete beam-column connections and one monolithic concrete connection are presented. The tests constituted the second phase of an experimental program on a 2/5-scale model precast connection. The objective of the test program was to design a simple moment-resisting precast connection for regions of high seismicity. The connection transfers bending moment by a combination of lap-splicing and end anchorage of bars. The end portions of precast beams sit on the column bearing area at the beginning of subassemblage construction. The variables examined were the level of axial load on column, spacing of beam stirrups in the connection length region,...

Dispersion and gain investigation of a Cerenkov grating amplifier

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices ; Volume 50, Issue 6 , 2003 , Pages 1562-1565 ; 00189383 (ISSN) Mehrany, K ; Rashidian, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
The sheet electron beam propagation over a rectangular deep groove grating is investigated and the interaction between surface harmonic waves, which are evanescent above the grating surface, with a dilute sheet electron beam is analyzed. It is assumed that a strong axial magnetic field is applied to constrain the motion of electrons along the waveguide axis. Under these conditions, a complex dispersion equation is derived and analyzed by using Taylor expansion. This expansion results in an analytical formulation for the gain. Using the derived analytical formulation of the gain, the effects of beam thickness, beam-grating gap, and characteristics of grating on gain is investigated

A novel concept for a deformable joint in offshore structures

    , Article Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering (OMAE), Oslo, 23 June 2002 through 28 June 2002 ; Volume 1 , 2002 , Pages 503-511 Khonsari, S. V ; England, G. L ; Mahboub-Farimani, M. R ; ASME ; Sharif University of Technology
    2002
    Abstract
A new semi-rigid beam-to-column, as well as bracing-to-frame, connection has been developed. In addition to its application in building structures, due to its special features and characteristics, it can best lend itself to offshore jackets, where fracture caused by fatigue has always been a major concern. The adverse effects of welding, material embrittlement, residual stresses, etc., pronounced by cyclic loading on such structures, can be overcome by using this new connection. Moreover, it can be easily used in the structure of various modules used in the topside of platforms and FPSOs. The particular feature of this connection is its geometry, which is so devised that it allows much...

Molecular structure and physical properties of E-beam crosslinked low-density polyethylene for wire and cable insulation applications

    , Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 86, Issue 8 , 2002 , Pages 1959-1969 ; 00218995 (ISSN) Dadbin, S ; Frounchi, M ; Haji Saeid, M ; Gangi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2002
    Abstract
Crosslinking of homemade low-density polyethylene (LDPE) was performed by electron-beam (EB) irradiation. The gel content of the EB-exposed LDPE was determined by the solvent-extraction method. The degree of crosslinking was also evaluated by a hot set measuring test. The results obtained from both the gel-sol and the hot set methods showed that the degree of crosslinking was dependent on the deposited energy in LDPE samples. Increasing the absorbed dose increased the degree of network formation. The LDPE with higher molecular weight yielded higher efficiency of crosslinking at the same irradiation dose. The effect of irradiation dose on the molecular weight between crosslinks (Mc),...

On a new approach for finding the kern of a beam section

    , Article Engineering Structures ; Volume 23, Issue 9 , 2001 , Pages 1080-1084 ; 01410296 (ISSN) Mofid, M ; Shadnam, M. R ; McCabe, S. L ; Sharif University of Technology
    2001
    Abstract
A new approach is presented that can be used to determine the kern of a general arbitrary section with any shape and conditions. The method is simple, practical and powerful, and is based on elementary calculus. Geometries containing curved boundaries and arbitrary shapes can be handled easily with the analytical equations presented, while the numerically specified shape of any other cross-section can also be analyzed by using a numerical form of the exact governing equations developed. The correctness of the results has been ascertained by comparison with analytical solutions, as well as with examples presented in the literature, and very good agreement has been achieved. © 2001 Elsevier...
