    Abstract
    Steel box girders have two webs and two flanges on top that are usually connected with shear connectors to the concrete deck and are also known as tub girders. The end diaphragms of such bridges comprise of a stiffened steel plate welded to the inside of the girder at each end. The diaphragms play a major role in transferring vertical and lateral loads to the bearings and substructure. A review of literature shows that the cyclic behavior of diaphragms under earthquake loading has not been studied previously.     Abstract
    This paper discusses the necessity of considering the concurrent effects of uniform temperature and earthquake loadings in the design of cable-stayed bridges. This load combination is not foreseen in current design standards such as AASHTO and Eurocode. Three-dimensional finite element models of cable-stayed bridges are employed for nonlinear time history analyses. A load combination is proposed that adds uniform temperature loading to the existing extreme event load combination.     Abstract
    Dual active bridge isolated bidirectional DC converter (DAB-IBDC) has a poor efficiency at light loads and non-unity voltage conversion ratio. In this paper the current stress of the converter is analyzed and the effect of maximum phase shift ratio and leakage inductance on the current stress of the converter is investigated. In order to increase the efficiency of the converter and reduce the current stress, the current stress optimization has been done and the design procedure is presented.     This paper is focused on improving the post-fault performance of cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters by decreasing the common-mode voltage. First, an algorithm is proposed to determine the optimal post-fault state among all possible states, which have the same maximum available voltage. Furthermore, a modified technique is proposed to calculate the references of inverter phase voltages under faulty conditions. This technique leads to a decrease in the common-mode voltage when the required output voltage is less than its maximum value. These solutions are mutually employed in the post-fault control system.     Rectifiers are an integral part of power harvesting systems. In this paper, the literature on RF power rectifiers is surveyed, starting from the well-known voltage doubler. Effects of using low turn-on voltage devices on forward and reverse losses, and therefore, on conversion efficiency, is discussed.     Complex piers (CPs), consisting of a column, pile cap and pile group, are commonly built as foundations for hydraulic and marine structures. Scour-hole development around CPs is studied in this paper. A total of 52 tests is carried out on 4 CP models, with experiments durations ranging from 24 to 120 h. All of the available experimental data for clear-water scour around CPs including the collected data of the present study and those previously published are reviewed and combined into a database.     The AASHTO Standard Specification defines diaphragms as a transverse member between girders in order to maintain sectional geometry. Some of the reasons in favor of using a diaphragm are that it prevents the girders from twisting during the process of construction and helps in distributing vertical live loads between girders and transfers lateral loads (wind or earthquake) to supports. It also provides restraint for the lateral-torsional buckling of the girders.
