    , Article Progress in Reaction Kinetics and Mechanism ; Volume 43, Issue 3-4 , 2018 , Pages 201-210 ; 14686783 (ISSN) Nikonam Mofrad,, R ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Vahdati Khaki, J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Science Reviews 2000 Ltd  2018
    Abstract
We determined the mechanism of mechanochemical synthesis of fluorapatite from CaO, CaF2 and P2O5 by characterisation of the intermediate compounds. We used atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, FTIR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy to find the transitional compounds. Investigation of the binary and ternary powder mixtures revealed the appearance of H3PO4, Ca(OH)2, Ca2P2O7 and CaCO3 as the intermediate compounds. At early stages of the milling, conversions of P2O5 to H3PO4 and CaO to Ca(OH)2 occurred in the wet atmosphere. Later, a combination of Ca(OH)2 and H3PO4 formed Ca2P2O7 while the unreacted CaO was converted to...

    Abstract
The major obstacles in gas separation by mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) are poor dispersion and poor affinity between polymers and fillers. The present study demonstrates that these challenges can be overcome appropriately by utilizing a series of synthesized stand-alone MMMs. The matrix used was polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and the MMMs were synthesized by in situ polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of UiO-66, NH2-UiO-66 and vinyl group attached UiO-66. In situ polymerization of MMA in the presence of vinyl attached UiO-66 resulted in PMMA grafted UiO-66 with a high degree of grafting. Microscopic analysis by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM)...

    Abstract
In this article, a Molecular Structural Mechanics/Finite Element (MSM/FE) multiscale modeling of carbon nanotube/polymer composites with viscoelastic (VE) polymer matrix is introduced. The nanotube is modeled at the atomistic scale using structural molecular mechanics. The matrix deformation is analyzed by nonlinear finite element method considering VE behavior. The nanotube and matrix are assumed to be bonded by van der Waals interactions based on the Lennard-Jones potential at the interface. Using the MSM/FE multiscale model, we investigate the effect of carbon nanotube (CNT) on the improvement of mechanical stability of the nanocomposite. Also, the buckling behavior of these...

    2009
    Abstract
In this paper simulation results for integration of CO2 pre-combustion capture by steam methane reforming (SMR) in membrane reactors (MR) with natural gas fired combined cycle (NGCC) power plants are presented. The integrated combined cycle was simulated by GTPRO (Thermoflow) simulator along with the results from simulation of membrane reactor for SMR process developed in this work. The results show that the overall efficiency of the integrated combined cycles decreased due to the energy required for SMR process. On the other hand, by integration of MR in combined cycles, emissions of CO2 to the atmosphere can be avoided. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

    Abstract
There is a substantial volume of mobile phone waste every year. Due to the disadvantages of traditional methods, it is necessary to look for biological processes that are more eco-friendly and economical to recover metals from e-waste. Fungi provide large amounts of organic acids and dissolve metals but using sucrose in the medium is not economical. In this paper, the main objective is to find a suitable alternative carbon substrate instead of sucrose for fungi bioleaching of Ni and Cu in printed circuit boards (PCBs) of mobile phones using Penicillium simplicissimum. Four kinds of carbon sources (including sucrose, cheese whey, sugar, and sugar cane molasses) were selected. Also, pH and...

    Abstract
The phase-pure multiple ternary or quaternary metal selenides in energy boosting, have not been reported yet. Here, self-supported porous crystalline Zn–Ni–Co/Cu selenides microballs arrays were constructed by selenation of the designed tubular Cu(OH)2 arrays decorated with ultrathin Zn–Co–Ni tri-metallic hydroxide on carbon cloth substrate. For this rational engineering, a novel precursor sample was firstly prepared by conversion of deposited Cu layer to hollow tubular Cu(OH)2 arrays on carbon cloth, then, Zn-Co–Ni layered ternary hydroxides with a thin layer structure was deposited around this tubular arrays. The selenation with an exciting morphology change from amorphous tube to highly...

    Abstract
Keratoconus (KC) is a progressive corneal disease. It is mostly characterized by corneal thinning and irregular steepening as well as formation of cone-shaped regions on the cornea. Amongst treatment modalities, implantation of Intrastromal Corneal Ring Segments (ICRSs) could decrease corneal surface irregularities. However, controversy exists over the selection of proper ICRSs. Here, the aim was to compare the effects of two sets of ICRSs. The ICRSs were identical both in cross-section and total arc length. The results showed that under normal physiological range of intraocular pressures (IOPs), the two selected ICRSs caused slightly different deformations in the same in-silico keratoconic...

    Abstract
Nitrogen has emerged as a suitable alternative to carbon dioxide for injection into hydrocarbon reservoirs worldwide to enhance the recovery of subsurface energy. Nitrogen typically costs less than CO2 and natural gas, and has the added benefit of being widely available and non-corrosive. However, the underlying mechanisms of recovery following N2 injection into fractured reservoirs that make up a large portion of the world's oil and gas reserves are not well understood. Here we present the laboratory results of N2 injection into carbonate rocks acquired from a newly developed oil reservoir in Iran with a huge N2-containing natural gas reservoir nearby. We investigate the effectiveness of N2...

    Abstract
To study the gas injection scenario for successful implementation of enhanced oil recovery (EOR)processes, the prediction of interfacial tension (IFT)between injected gas and the crude oil is of paramount significance. In the present study, some intelligent methods were developed for determining IFT values between supercritical CO2 and normal alkanes. IFT was considered as a function of temperature, pressure, and molecular weight of normal alkanes. The developed methods were Multilayer perceptron (MLP), Genetic Algorithm Radial Basis Function (GA-RBF), and Conjugate Hybrid-PSO ANFIS (CHPSO-ANFIS). The average absolute percent relative errors (AAREs)for the stated techniques were found to be...

    Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed to investigate the electronic structure and photocatalytic activity of a hybrid Ag3PO4(111)/g-C3N4 structure. Due to Ag(d) and O(p) states forming the upper part of the valence band and C(p), N(p), and Ag(s) the lower part of the conduction band, the band gap of the hybrid material is reduced from 2.75 eV for Ag3PO4(111) and 3.13 eV for monolayer of g-C3N4 to about 2.52 eV, enhancing the photocatalytic activity of the Ag3PO4(111) surface and g-C3N4 sheet in the visible region. We have also investigated possible reaction pathways for photocatalytic CO2 reduction on the Ag3PO4(111)/g-C3N4 nanocomposite to determine the most...
