    Abstract
    Reinforced concrete columns with insufficient transverse steel reinforcement are not capable to dissipate seismic energy due to lack of necessary ductility. In this research, six RC columns with poor transverse reinforcements are tested under cyclic and axial loads as control columns and retrofitted ones. Prestressed and non-pre-stressed CFRP strips used as external transverse reinforcement to evaluate the benefits of active and passive confinement. Results indicate that additional confinement due to the use of CFRP strips enhances the strength, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of columns.     Abstract
    Effect of several auxiliary carbon sources such as crude oil, different precultures, and quality of adding crude oil in treatment of petroleum wax deposits by an isolated bacterial strain, BBRC9012, was investigated. First and second experiments which compered effect of molasses, glucose and crude oil, indicated that glucose and molasses causes more microbial growth, biosurfactant production and bioemolsification than crude oil. Both optometry and Surface tension measurements showed that using molasses-BHB preculture for wax treatment is not suitable and when crude oil is used as auxiliary carbon source a one day lag phase is unavoidable.     Electro-oxidation of dopamine at a glassy carbon electrode was investigated in the presence of some biologically important thiols (R-SH), e.g. cysteine and penicillamine. Results of cyclic voltammetric studies together with the spectrophotometric foundations via Ellman's test during the controlled-potential coulometry show a nucleophilic addition/reduction of thiol to the electrochemically generated dopaminoquinone by a 1 + 4 Michael addition.     Lithium perchlorate has been found to be an inexpensive and efficient catalyst for the ring opening of epoxides by indole and N-methylindole, which provides an environmentally friendly method for the synthesis of substituted indoles. A complete regioselectivity in favor of nucleophilic attack at the benzylic carbon atom of aromatic epoxides, such as styrene oxide, is observed.     Growth mechanism of a single wall carbon nanotube on the surface of a nickel nanoparticle in the CVD method has been investigated by classical molecular dynamics method. Using first principles methods, we have first constructed a classical potential to describe the interaction between a carbon atom and the nickel surface. The important ingredient in this potential is its coordination number dependence, which also provides the key to the growth mechanism of the nanotube. The variational formulation and the finite element method have been employed to solve the governing conduction-convection equation.     Abstract
    The electrochemical behavior of ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA) at the surface of a carbon-paste electrode modified with incorporate thionine-nafion ion-paired was thoroughly investigated. The results show the presence of nafion inside the matrix of modified electrode, because of the effective ion-pairing and hydrophobic interactions, significantly enhances the stability of thionine as an electron mediator inside the modified electrode. A high reproducibility in voltammetric response to analyte species results because of this enhancement.     Abstract
    An experimental flow-type apparatus has been tested for the separation of phenanthrene from a mixture of solids (phenanthrene, anthracene, and carbazole) and also from anthracene oil of the Isfahan Coal Tar Refining Company based on retrograde crystallization phenomena in supercritical carbon dioxide. The results show that by exploiting the crossover effect it is possible to obtain (82 and 24) mass % of phenanthrene from the solid mixture and anthracene oil, respectively, with a single temperature cycle

    Electrochemical oxidation of catechol in the presence of 3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole (MTA) as a nucleophile in aqueous buffered solutions was studied by cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential coulometry.     This paper models the kinetics of dynamic recovery and recrystallization under hot working conditions. For doing so, the first-order kinetics equation is coupled with a thermo-viscoplastic finite element analysis to determine the kinetics of dynamic softening processes at different points of deforming metal.     The electrochemical behavior of captopril at the surface of a carbon-paste electrode (CPE) modified with cobalt-5-nitrolsalophen (CoNSal) is described. The prepared electrode shows an excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of captopril, which is leading to marked lowering in the anodic overpotential and considerable improvement of sensitivity (anodic current).     Abstract
    In the present work, the role of graphite addition and sintering atmosphere on the laser sintering of M2 high-speed steel (HSS) powder was studied. The test specimens were produced using a continuous wave CO2 laser beam at power of 200 W and at varying scan rate ranges from 50 to 175 mm s-1 under nitrogen and argon atmospheres. It was found that laser scan rate and sintering atmosphere strongly influence the densification of M2 HSS powder. Opposite to the conventional sintering that the sinterability of HSS is improved by graphite addition, the result of this work demonstrated that graphite addition decreases the sintered density of M2 HSS at relatively low laser scan rates, i.e. <100 mm...

    The rate constants of the oxidation of CO on a number of pure and La 2O3 doped NiO/Al2O3 solid catalysts were correlated with the mole percent of dopant, calcinations temperature, surface area, pore volume and pore mouth diameter by an artificial neural network simulator.
