    Abstract
In this study, antibacterial activity, biocompatibility, and corrosion resistance of 316 LVM implants were improved using the development of HAp/GO/Ag nanocomposite coatings by the dip-coating method. The XRD and FTIR results confirmed the synthesis of HAp/GO/Ag nanocomposites. HAp/Ag nanoparticles (68 nm) bound to epoxy, hydroxyl, and carboxyl functional groups on GO sheets (size of GO sheets varies from 255 to 1480 nm) by electrostatic interaction. FESEM images showed that HAp/GO/Ag coatings had higher density and fewer micro-cracks than pure HAp coatings. In addition, HAp/GO/Ag coatings showed optimized nano-hardness (4.5 GPa) and elasticity modulus (123 GPa). The results of...

Attitude control of an underactuated satellite in presence of disturbance torque with optimal motion planning

    , Article Aerospace Science and Technology ; Volume 121 , 2022 ; 12709638 (ISSN) Mehrparwar Zinjanabi, A ; Nejat Pishkenari, H ; Salarieh, H ; Abdollahi, T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Masson s.r.l  2022
    Abstract
The failure of mechanical components is a common phenomenon in satellites. This failure can happen in the satellite attitude control system, which causes that the control system of the satellite becomes underactuated. There have been many attempts to control the orientation of underactuated satellites. However, in most studies, the inertia matrix of the satellite is assumed to be diagonal with respect to the body coordinate system, and no limitations on the amount of torque applied by the reaction wheels have been considered. In this paper, at first, it is attempted to control the satellite using the motion planning method. The satellite control inputs are assumed to be cubic spline with...

    , Article Thin-Walled Structures ; Volume 171 , 2022 ; 02638231 (ISSN) Abdollahi, R ; Firouz abadi, R. D ; Rahmanian, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
This study aims to investigate the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of annular cylinders coupled with a fluid medium to identify the effective parameters on stability margins at different rotation speeds. To achieve this, stability and nonlinear vibrations of rotating cylindrical shells containing incompressible annular fluid are considered. The fluid medium is bounded by a rigid external cylinder. Sanders–Koiter kinematic assumptions are utilized to determine the geometrically nonlinear structural equations of motion. These equations are then used to investigate finite amplitude vibrations of various fluid-loaded shells at different states. A penalty approach is introduced by using...

    Abstract
A modified unscented Kalman filter is presented to estimate the quaternion parameters as well as the angular velocities of a rigid gyro-less satellite under faulty sensor conditions. The task is carried out using the Sun sensor and magnetometers as attitude sensors with bounded noise and unknown fault(s). Following the presentation of the satellite attitude dynamics and filtering formulations, a new fault detection and isolation algorithm is proposed. The latter is based on a modified unscented Kalman filter structure for improved fault detection, sensor isolation, and attitude control (AC). A Backtracking Search Algorithm (BSA) is also used to design and optimize the PID controller gains,...

    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
In this paper, the drivetrain identification problem of a horizontal axis gear-driven wind turbine has been considered. The identification problem leads to a precise model of the drivetrain of the wind turbines which plays a key role in the production and transmission of electrical energy. This process consists of two stages: First, offline identification which needs the input–output data from the drivetrain system. These data are obtained from the FAST code. FAST (Fatigue, Aerodynamics, Structures, and Turbulence) is a valid aeroelastic code in the simulation aeroelastic field of offshore and onshore wind turbines. In region 2 (wind velocity is between the cut-in and rated velocities), the...

    Abstract
Magnesium and its alloys have gained significant popularity due to their light weight and their potential for use as bioresorbable materials. However, their application is limited in practice due to their relatively poor corrosion resistance. Several methods are available for improving the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys for bio-applications such as using different coatings, alloying, and modifying the microstructural parameters such as the grain size and the crystallographic texture. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the effects of crystallographic texture and twinning, as one of the most important deformation mechanisms of Mg and Mg alloys, on the corrosion behavior....

    Abstract
Multispeed resolvers are used in the applications that need higher accuracy. However, they suffer from losing absolute position information. To overcome this challenge and improve the reliability of detecting position, the use of multiturn resolvers is recommended. The conventional configuration of multiturn resolver is using two individual resolvers on one shaft and into a common frame. Using such configuration needs special care on setting the distance between two resolvers. In this article, a new structure based on a dual side configuration is proposed. The performance of the double-sided resolver is analyzed and optimized using an analytical model based on a magnetic equivalent circuit....

    Abstract
Targeted drug delivery systems using nanocarriers offer a versatile platform for breast cancer treatment; however, a robust, CD44-targeted niosomal formulation has not been developed and deeply studied (both in vitro and in vivo) yet. Here, an optimized system of epirubicin (Epi)-loaded niosomal nanoparticles (Nio) coated with hyaluronic acid (HA) has been engineered for targeting breast cancer cells. The nanoformulation was first optimized (based on size, polydispersity index, and entrapment efficiency); then, we characterized the morphology, stability, and release behavior of the nanoparticles. Epirubicin release from the HA-coated system (Epi-Nio-HA) showed a 21% (acidic buffer) and 20%...

    Abstract
Higher than a standard level, the humidity provides a suitable environment for the pathogenic microorganisms to grow and increases energy consumption for cooling, increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Desiccant air-conditioning (DAC) is an effective method to reduce humidity and energy simultaneously. Conventional desiccants are not suitable for use as a desiccant in building air conditioners, mainly because of high regeneration temperature and other issues such as limited equilibrium capacity and hydrothermal and cyclic instability. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a novel class of porous crystalline materials without the disadvantages of traditional desiccants. They benefit from a huge...

Improved artificial neural networks for 3D body posture and lumbosacral moment predictions during manual material handling activities

    , Article Journal of Biomechanics ; Volume 131 , 2022 ; 00219290 (ISSN) Mohseni, M ; Aghazadeh, F ; Arjmand, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Body posture measurement approaches, required in biomechanical models to assess risk of musculoskeletal injuries, are usually costly and/or impractical for use in real workplaces. Therefore, we recently developed three artificial neural networks (ANNs), based on measured posture data on several individuals, to predict whole body 3D posture (coordinates of 15 markers located on body's main joints), segmental orientations (Euler angles of 14 body segments), and lumbosacral (L5-S1) moments during static manual material handling (MMH) activities (ANNPosture, ANNAngle, and ANNMoment, respectively). These ANNs require worker's body height, body weight (only for ANNMoment), hand-load 3D position,...

A framework for prescribed-time control design via time-scale transformation

    , Article IEEE Control Systems Letters ; Volume 6 , 2022 , Pages 1976-1981 ; 24751456 (ISSN) Shakouri, A ; Assadian, N ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2022
    Abstract
This letter presents a unified framework for the design of prescribed-time controllers under time-varying input and state constraints for normal-form unknown nonlinear systems with uncertain input gain. The proposed approach is based on a time-domain mapping method by which any infinite-time system can be corresponded to a prescribed-time system and vice versa. It is shown that the design of a constrained nonasymptotic prescribed-time controller can be reduced to the asymptotic control design for an associated constrained infinite-time system. Faà di Bruno's formula and Bell polynomials are used for a constructive representation of the associated infinite-time system. The presented results...

    Abstract
Herein, an efficient and sustainable one-pot, four-component access to rhodanine-oxindole derivatives is achieved by a reaction between primary amines, carbon disulfide, ethyl chloroacetate, and cyano-substituted alkenyl oxindoles. The reaction was conducted without any harsh conditions as well as exhausting workup in polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a green solvent at room temperature and delivered rhodanine-oxindole products in high yield. This publication is the first easy protocol to be reported for the rapid construction of new rhodanine-oxindole derivatives at room temperature without harsh conditions and via multicomponent reaction. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC
