Risk-Based Seismic Design of Buildings in the Context of Cities, with Rigorous Uncertainty Modeling, and Proposing Efficient Computational Methods
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor)
Abstract
The main goal of the current building design codes is to protect life safety, and generally, they do not directly address other societal, economic, etc., concerns regarding earthquakes. However, recent earthquakes around the world have shown that the effects of earthquakes' damages and losses can go beyond life-safety concerns. This observation has led many renowned scholars, organizations, and agencies to state the need to change the current design codes. In this regard, this thesis investigates the basis of setting the seismic design requirements and suggests a method in this respect. The study consists of two main parts. Part I (theory and design methodology) discusses some theoretical...
Design of Transmit Code & Receive Filter in Radar Via Manifold Optimization
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Karbasi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The problem of joint design of transmit code and receive filter is considered in many application scenarios of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar systems. The performance of the joint design problem is evaluated with the signal-to-interference ratio (SINR) metric in the presence of noise. In such problems, the optimization problem is to maximize SINR on the receiver side with the constraints that are applied on the transmitted waveform. Our proposed method, RTR, is a manifold-based geometric method that performs better than the SDP method in terms of algorithm execution speed and calculation complexity. For simulation, we took sampled and real TIR with Target Aspect Angle (TAA) in a...
Improving the Decision-Making Process under the Presence of Uncertainty in Airplane Conceptual Design, Creating an Intuitive Platform
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Banazadeh, Afshin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Improving performance and reducing costs is a constant competition between aircraft designers, which has made multi-disciplinary optimization always part of the design process. In the design process of a conventional aircraft, there are various uncertainties in technology levels, mission parameters, costs and operating environment. It is clear that these uncertainties will make the decision-making difficult and lead to uncertainties in the output of the design; on the other hand, considering them will increase the computational cost. Understanding how much the uncertainty of each parameter will affect the overall output of the design and its performance, makes it possible to ignore the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nejat Pishkenari, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today, the need to access very small environments is felt in various medical, industrial, biological and military fields. Due to their small size, microrobots have the ability to perform tasks that would be very difficult to do on a larger scale, but this ability of microrobots makes feeding and controlling them challenging. There are several methods for providing power and control of microrobots, which include their internal or external stimulation, among which the magnetic stimulation method is used in this research, which does not cause damage to body tissues. In this thesis, an electromagnetic system with nine cylindrical coils is used to control the three-dimensional movement of magnetic...

Abstract
Molybdenum is one of the important elements of the intermediary metal with atomic number 42, which is used in various industries, but among the important uses of this metal in the nuclear industry, we can mention the presence of this element in the production of yellow cake as an impurity and also as a precursor for the production of radiopharmaceuticals. It is one of the impurities that remain in all stages of yellow cake production along with uranium, and the high presence of this element causes the centrifuges to become unbalanced during the injection of "U" "F" _"6" gas, and on the other hand, technetium, the main ingredient in the production of radiopharmaceuticals, It comes from the...
The Effect of Antenna Arrangement on the Aliasing Artifacts in Multi-Static Millimeter Wave Imaging Systems Based on the K-Space Analysis and Signal Processing
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Shabany, Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Kavehvash, Zahra (Supervisor)
Abstract
Millimeter wave imaging has been used in many applications including security screening and medical imaging. Millimeter wave screening systems are considered a reliable option in the design of surveillance systems, because they feature enough penetration in dielectric materials including clothes, low health- risk and decent resolution. The first generation of such systems are based on mono-static arrays and mechanical scanning. Large mono-static arrays are challenging and expensive to implement, because they require high number of antenna elements to satisfy the Nyquist sampling rate. Moreover, the minimum sampling rate imposes limitations on design and size of antenna elements. So,...

Conceptual Design and Performance Simulation of a Vibration Measurement Device for Modal Analysis of Rotating Cylindrical Shells
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saadat Foumani, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
Abstract
Cylindrical shells play an important role in a wide range of engineering applications such as mechanics, aerospace, marine engineering, and nuclear applications due to their high load-carrying capacity, light structure, and economic advantages. Because these structures are often made of high lengths and thin sheets, they are very prone to vibration, especially under the conditions that they play a role in the rotating state, which can cause failure. For the reasons mentioned, the vibration analysis of rotating cylindrical shells will be essential in engineering designs. In the present study, after introducing general concepts regarding the analysis of structural vibrations, previous research...

Design and Operation of Proper Freeze Drying Process to Recover Active Biological Agent
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rosta Azad, Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the most important unit operations in the production of dry powder biological products involves a freeze dryer apparatus. In this process, Liqueur, which is containing the α-amylase enzyme, undergoes a frigidity condition in which loses its moisture during sublimation. Under these circumstances, applying an adequate supply of sublimation enthalpy without raising the temperature of the frigid material up to melting, plays an important role in the quality of the product and preventing degradation of the α-amylase enzyme. Freeze drying depends on two main factors; time and energy. Furthermore, it is necessary to obtain an optimal temperature and pressure for different steps and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fattahi, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The aim of this study is to devise innovative compounds that impede the function of CK2α enzyme by incorporating amino acids and sugars into their molecular structure. CK2α, a catalytic subunit of CK2 enzyme, operates autonomously and is the only continuously active kinase that does not require an upstream regulator. Emerging evidence highlights CK2α's crucial role in various cancers and infectious diseases, including Covid-19, indicating that suppressing its function could provide a promising approach to improve patient outcomes. To accomplish this objective, the drug design process must take into account both pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. Pharmacokinetics, encompassing...
