    Abstract
    The estimation of the satellite orbital elements using the integrated magnetometer and horizon sensors data has been investigated in this study. These sensors are generally employed for attitude estimation. The magnetometer and the horizon sensor measure the Earths magnetic field as well as the Earths center direction in the body frame, respectively. The magnitude of the magnetic field and the angle between two vectors have been used for orbit estimation purpose. This excludes the knowledge of the attitude in the orbit determination.     The α-C-H bond dissociation energy (BDE) of phenylcyclopropane (1) was experimentally determined using Hess' law. An equilibrium acidity determination of 1 afforded ΔH°acid = 389.1 ± 0.8 kcal mol-1, and isotopic labeling established that the α-position of the three-membered ring is the favored deprotonation site. Interestingly, the structure of the base proved to be a key factor in correctly determining the proper ionization site (i.e., secondary amide ions are needed, and primary ones and OH- lead to incorrect conclusions since they scramble the deuterium label).     In this study, we have utilized 3-D micro-tomography images of real and synthetic rocks to introduce two mathematical correlations which estimate the distribution parameters of 3-D coordination number using a single 2-D cross-sectional image. By applying a watershed segmentation algorithm, it is found that the distribution of 3-D coordination number is acceptably predictable by statistical analysis of the network extracted from 2-D images.     A 3 DOF platform was constructed in the Georgia Institute of Technology to perform new control strategies in an experimental framework. Also in this simulator, there isn't any sensor used by a real satellite for attitude determination. The setup was structured on data transmitting and synchronization of distributed elements for ADCS tests. In such a plan, not only can different elements of the test bed be used individually, but also they can support an integrated hardware in the loop test.     Abstract
    This paper presents an asymptotically-convergent nonlinear attitude estimator for rigid bodies using a rate gyro and GPS. Double-difference carrier phase measurement are provided by at least two GPS antennas. The unknown integer ambiguity factor related to GPS carrier phase measurement is estimated along with the attitude. An observability condition is derived to guarantee convergence of the estimator when a single baseline vector is available with more than four satellites in view.     The theoretical model developed in this article predicts that collaboration with top-funded scientists positively affects the number of scientific publications of an individual scientist. Having combined data on funding and publication of Quebec scientists, this article empirically tests the theoretical predictions. This article examines numerous definitions of top-funded scientists as those in the top 10 per cent, or top 5 per cent in terms of total funding, funding from the public sector, and funding from the private sector.     Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS), one of the most widely used synthetic surfactants in laundry detergent industry, is considered a hazardous contaminant in wastewater. In the present study, a microbial fuel cell (MFC) based biosensor is developed to quantitively determine the LAS concentration in wastewater. To do so, the developed MFC is fed with LAS concentration of 60 mg l−1. Finally, a sustained biofilm is formed after almost 34 days and the highest open circuit potential of 425 mV is recorded.     A carbon paste electrode (CPE) chemically modified with TiO2 nanoparticles and quinizarine (QZ) was used as a selective electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of minor amounts of d-penicillamine (D-PA) and tryptophan (Trp). This modified electrode showed very efficient electrocatalytic activity for anodic oxidation of both d-PA and Trp. Substantial decreases of anodic overpotentials for both compounds made this analysis possible.
