Abstract
Experiment is a procedure for verifying or establishing the validity of a hypothesis and then measuring or evaluating its outcomes. Due to the inherent uncertainties or ambiguities of its outcomes, a further treatment is needed for producing identical results. Fuzzy map is an approach for removing the uncertainties of the outcomes. In this manuscript, the procedure employed for conducting research and development in the field of nontechnology, in a developing country, is considered and the factors governing its success and its failures are analyzed. To accomplish this task, a thorough literature review was performed and the related critical factors were identified. Then an extensive survey...

Abstract
Based on general "System Theory", a system when it comes to its intended operational life; must exhibits three distinguished phases of (1) Pre-mission, (2) Mission, and (3) Post-mission. During Pre-mission one evaluates the system elements readiness to conduct the mission; their proper configurations in addition to their support roles to conduct their organizational role. During Post-mission, we check whether our evaluations were in fact, correct to the levels expected. Both pre and post mission phases are necessary for a successful mission. An education system; especially designed for space applications which aims to deliver the necessary workforce for the relevant industries and other...

Abstract
Inefficient project planning and control have been identified as the main contributor to the reduced performance of the construction industry in Iran. Meanwhile, improper use of planning and control software packages (PPCSPs) in these projects can be a key factor in this reduced performance. This study investigates different aspects of the PPCSP applications to draw the role of PPCSPs in the planning and control processes of construction projects in the country using a survey-based method. It is found that only 32.5% of the construction companies in Iran highly or very highly use PPCSPs. The low level of skill and the lack of management support are two main contributing factors to this...

Abstract
It is beyond dispute that technological change acts as a driver of economic growth. In developing countries where highly suffer from lack of this process, incremental innovation is considered as main source of technology capability building and development In moving toward this pass and to meet with time pressure of catching up, developing countries acquire the initial required knowledge base through technology absorption from outside sources; On the other hand as development is a lengthy process, it is important that the absorbed knowledge still has the potential of more advancement in future. Therefore a selection instrument with ability of assessing different knowledge base or...

Abstract
Particulate matter (PM) pollution is a growing concern in urban areas in the developing countries because of its potential to aggravate cardiovascular and respiratory illnesses. Traditional approaches in monitoring urban pollutants have relied on ground-based networks even though they essentially provide point measurements and are inadequate for health alerts on large spatial and long temporal scales. Recent advances in satellite imagery has attracted managers to look into this new alternative as a predictive tool for improving air quality at urban and regional scales by providing necessary data in advance of the onset of actual severe conditions. Moderate Resolution Imaging...

Abstract
Background: Oral rehydration solution (ORS) is a form of oral rehydration therapy (ORT) for diarrhoea that has the potential to drastically reduce child mortality; yet, according to UNICEF estimates, less than half of children younger than 5 years with diarrhoea in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) received ORS in 2016. A variety of recommended home fluids (RHF) exist as alternative forms of ORT; however, it is unclear whether RHF prevent child mortality. Previous studies have shown considerable variation between countries in ORS and RHF use, but subnational variation is unknown. This study aims to produce high-resolution geospatial estimates of relative and absolute coverage of...

Abstract
The safe, highly effective measles vaccine has been recommended globally since 1974, yet in 2017 there were more than 17 million cases of measles and 83,400 deaths in children under 5 years old, and more than 99% of both occurred in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)1–4. Globally comparable, annual, local estimates of routine first-dose measles-containing vaccine (MCV1) coverage are critical for understanding geographically precise immunity patterns, progress towards the targets of the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP), and high-risk areas amid disruptions to vaccination programmes caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)5–8. Here we generated annual estimates of routine childhood...
Comparative Analysis of National Building Code 19 and Successful International Standards
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mortaheb, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In response to the growing energy consumptions levels in buildings, many countries have introduced standards and codes aimed at reducing their national building energy consumption levels as well as managing the amount of pollutants. Title 19 of Iran’s National Building Regulation (NBR) was first introduced in 1991. It is projected that Title 19 can lead to a 30 to 50% reduction in the amount of buildings energy consumption. Nevertheless, evidence suggests that the introduction of Title 19 NBR has not led to substantial reduction in building energy consumption in Iran. Unlike Title 19 NBR, similar standards in other countries have proven to be very effective in reducing the building energy...
Formulating directional industry strategies for renewable energies in developing countries: The case study of Iran's wind turbine industry
, Article Renewable Energy ; Volume 39, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 299-306 ; 09601481 (ISSN) ; Mousavi, S. M ; Moallemi, E. A ; Nasiri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
This study seeks a method for formulating directional strategy of wind turbine industry in Iran. To this end, by initially evaluating various economic viewpoints concerning the development of industries, the necessity of government intervention is recognized. By defining the concepts of national industry policy, firm technology strategy, and national technology strategy, the role of directional industry strategy is then made clear. Furthermore, the six assumptions of emphasis on formulating strategy (rather than on formulating policy), emphasis on formulating directional strategy, model's prescriptivism, emphasis on formulating the strategy at the level of industry, Iran's being a developing...
Compactness requirements of RBS connections

Abstract
Flexible steel frame system is the most common structural system for mid-rise buildings. Northridge earthquake is turning point in designing flexible steel frames and their connections. During this earthquake a large number of beam-column connections in such structures were ruptured in a brittle manner. After this earthquake many researches were conducted on a variety of beam-column connections with an aim of improving their behavior during earthquake. One such connection which have been studied extensively both experimentally and analytically is a connection with Reduced Beam Section (RBS). The most important advantage of this connection is its high ductility and its ability to dissipate...
School bus routing problem in large-scale networks
, Article Transportation Research Record ; Issue 2137 , 2009 , Pages 140-147 ; 03611981 (ISSN) ; Zokaei Aashtiani, H ; Mohammadian, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is one of the most complicated optimization mathematical models; the school bus routing problem (SBRP) is an important and practical branch of this problem. Because the number of variables and equations is vast, finding the exact solution for this problem under real conditions is difficult; only heuristic and metaheuristic algorithms can be used to solve it. Recently, the ejection chain method (ECM) has been introduced as a heuristic algorithm that efficiently finds a new neighbor solution. In a case study in developing countries, efficiency of several heuristic algorithms including ECM along with one metaheuristic algorithm-tabu search algorithm (TSA)-is...
