, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Supervisor) ; Shokrgozar, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Coronary artery diseaseaffects millions of persons and isone of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Invasive techniques such as coronary artery bypassgrafting are used to alleviate the lesion of arterial occlusion.Unfortunately, restenosis or occlusion of the graftedconduit occurs over a time frame of months to years with a gradual reduction in patency, especially in vein grafts. Theevents leading to intimal hyperplasia (IH) formation involve numerous cellular and molecular components. Variouscellular elements of the vessel wall are involved as are leucocyte–endothelial interactions that trigger the coagulationcascade leading to localized thrombus formation. Subsequent...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saadatmand, Maryam (Supervisor)
Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) currently remains a considerable challenge for clinical treatments. CVDs account for N17.5 million deaths per year and will predictably increase to 23.6 million by 2030. The main purpose is to create human model systems to study the effect of disease mutations or drug treatment on the heart. In addition, engineered cardiac tissues are considered promising candidates to be transplanted to improve the function of diseased hearts. For engineered active tissues/organs, 3D bioprinting can fabricate complex tissue architecture with a spatiotemporal distribution of bioactive substances (cells, growth factors, and others) to better guide tissue regeneration. However,...
Preparation of Hemodialysis Membrane on the Basis of Polysulfone
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Abd Khodaei, Mohammad Jafar (Supervisor)
Abstract
In Hemodialysis, membrane dialyser and commonly hollow fibers are used to treat patients who suffer from end stage renal failure. When blood flows into membrane, it loses uremic toxins such as urea and creatinine. On the other hand, some of the vital proteins of blood pass through the membrane or they are adsorbed on the membrane surface. The more hydrophilicity of the membrane, the less adsorption of proteins is. In this study, to achieve high hydrophilicity and low adsorption of proteins on the polysulfone membrane surface, the presence of hydrophilic nano-particles SBA-15 in membrane composition is investigated. The nano-particles with mass percentages 0.25%, 0.5 % and 1 % to one mass of...

Then, polymer modification was done to 39.95 µg/mg (Tyramine/ Collagen). An In situ gel based on modified...
Fabrication of Thick Scaffold with Microfluidic Channels by Bioprinter
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saadatmand, Maryam (Supervisor)
Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of death worldwide. For instance, in 2015, almost 31% of the world’s mortality rate was due to these causes. One of these diseases is cardiac coronary vessels’ occlusion which leads to the insufficient blood supply to the heart tissue and cardiomyocytes death after Myocardial Infarction (MI). After MI, a hierarchy of events in the heart tissue changes heart muscle and forms cardiac fibrosis. This fibrotic tissue does not have the native one’s properties and function, so it will cause cardiac arrest and patient death. Therefore, it is obvious that vascular network plays a crucial role in the heart function. The importance of cardiac...

Well-posedness of Two Mathematical Models for Alzheimer's Disease
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hesaaraki, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
Abstract
In season 1, we introduce a mathematical model of the in vivo progression of Alzheimer’s disease with focus on the role of prions in memory impairment. Our model consists of differential equations that describe the dynamic formation of Aβ -amyloid plaques based on the concentrations of Aβ oligomers, PrPC proteins, and the Aβ-×-PrPC complex, which are hypothesized to be responsible for synaptic tox- icity. We prove the well posedness of the model and provided stability results for its unique equilibrium, when the polymerization rate of β-amyloid is constant and also when it is described by a power law. In seson 2, We consider the existence and uniqueness of solutions of an initial-boundary...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behzadipour, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Human Activity Recognition (HAR) has had tremendous improvements in the field of elderly monitoring and telerehabilitation. An anchor point for HAR systems in telerehabilitation is supervising rehabilitative excercises. For Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients, a group of rehabilitative activities, known as Lee Silverman Voice Treatment-BIG, or LSVT-BIG, have shown to be effective in improving motor performance. Similar to any rehabilitative measure, delivering these activities requires the supervision of an expert or clinician, so that the patient receives proper feedbacks. HAR systems can replace human experts. They can recognize activities and provide the user with proper feedback. HAR...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behzadipour, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in posturography methods as an objective quantitative tool for assessing balance and indicating patient with high risk of fall. Although many posturographic studies tried to describe balance deficiencies in PD, little success has been achieved in utilizing static posturography as a tool for discriminating faller and non-faller PD patients. Furthermore, Dynamic posturography studies have delivered valuable insight into the potentiality of these methods for assessing balance, but these devices are very high in price and cumbersome to move that can limit the feasibility of their use in the clinical settings. The aims of this study were: 1)...
Development of An Intelligent System For Thyroid Disease Diagnosis , Modeling And Simulation of Thyroid Hormone In Human Body
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bozorgmehri, Ramin (Supervisor)
Abstract
The abstract is the most important section of the thesis because many readers limit most of their reading to abstracts, saving in-depth reading for specific theses. It should give the reader a "preview" of what's to come. The abstract should emphasize new and important aspects of the study or observations. The purpose of the abstract is to allow researchers to decide whether or not to read the whole thesis. The abstract is what researchers read first to decide if the thesis is important, interesting, and it allows them to assess the relevance of a thesis to their own research, without having to read the entire thesis. Thus, it is crucial that the abstract both summarize succinctly the key...
Determination of Correlation between Phase Amplitude Coupling and Surprise in Brain
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Karblaei Aghajan, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
The human brain needs to create a model of data surrounding it continuously. To do so, handling the dynamics of information through communication between the brain regions is a critical step. Having a model of this procedure in the brain not only provides a clear explanation of how cognition occurs in the brain, but also enables us to have a better view of the cognition impairments in the brain. Surprise is a process in the brain that brings various cognitive abilities, including attention and memory, into practical use. Furthermore, these abilities are about manipulating the input information in an optimized way. Memory is the ability to store information arriving at a specific time....
