Capacity bounds and detection schemes for data over voice

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Volume 65, Issue 11 , 2016 , Pages 8964-8977 ; 00189545 (ISSN) Kazemi, R ; Boloursaz, M ; Etemadi, S. M ; Behnia, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Cellular networks provide widespread and reliable voice communications among subscribers through mobile voice channels. These channels benefit from superior priority and higher availability compared with conventional cellular data communication services, such as General Packet Radio Service, Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution, and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access. These properties are of major interest to applications that require transmitting small volumes of data urgently and reliably, such as an emergency call in vehicular applications. This encourages excessive research to make digital communication through voice channels feasible, leading to the emergence of Data over Voice (DoV)...

Multiuser precoding and power allocation in downlink of cooperative CDMA networks

    , Article ATC 2009 - Proceedings of the 2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications, 12 October 2009 through 14 October 2009, Hai Phong ; 2009 , Pages 279-283 ; 9781424451395 (ISBN) Abdizadeh, M ; Jafarnia, A ; Jamali Rad, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we study the downlink of cooperative Direct-Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) systems, where a set of Mobile Terminals (MT) cooperate with the purpose of improving their downlink communications reliability with Base Station (BS). For combating Multiple-Access Interference (MAI) as well as transferring complexity and spatial processing from the mobile terminals to the transmitter of BS, multiuser transmitter precoding is considered. In addition to multiuser precoding based on Minimum Mean-Square Error (MMSE) criterion for mitigating MAI, the proper transmission power control strategy under a fixed total power constraint is proposed and analyzed. Compared with...

A class of errorless codes for overloaded synchronous wireless and optical CDMA systems

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Information Theory ; Volume 55, Issue 6 , 2009 , Pages 2705-2715 ; 00189448 (ISSN) Pad, P ; Marvasti, F ; Alishahi, K ; Akbari, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we introduce a new class of codes for overloaded synchronous wireless and optical code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems which increases the number of users for fixed number of chips without introducing any errors. Equivalently, the chip rate can be reduced for a given number of users, which implies bandwidth reduction for downlink wireless systems. An upper bound for the maximum number of users for a given number of chips is derived. Also, lower and upper bounds for the sum channel capacity of a binary overloaded CDMA are derived that can predict the existence of such overloaded codes. We also propose a simplified maximum likelihood method for decoding these types of...

    Abstract
Although Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are capable of significantly improving the information security by detecting the eavesdropper's location, their limited energy motivates our research to propose a secure and energy efficient scheme. Thanks to the common-message philosophy introduced by Rate-Splitting (RS), we no longer have to allocate a portion of the transmit power to radiate Artificial Noise (AN), and yet both the Energy Efficiency (EE) and secrecy can be improved. Hence we define and study the Secrecy Energy Efficiency (SEE) of a multi-carrier multi-UAV network, in which Cooperative Rate-Splitting (CRS) is employed by each multi-antenna UAV Base-Station (UAV-BS) for protecting...
