, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Bedram, Ahmad (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Kazemzadeh Hannani, Siamak (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this paper, we introduced two methods for producing unequal sized droplet from an initial one that don’t have the disadvantages of the available methods. We developed a comprehensive analytical theory for the T-junction with valve method. Also the geometry was simulated using a VOF algorithm and a comparison was performed between numerical and analytical results and very good agreement was observed. The accuracy of numerical results was confirmed by doing the grid independency and time step independency and comparing the results with two analytical benchmarks. We derived accurate analytical relations for calculating the droplet volume ratio, droplet length (L1, L2 and Lwhole) and pressure...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Derakhshani, Mehdi (Author) ; Nouri Borujerdi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, two-phase flow modeling in two-dimensional micro channel with liquid injection from wall is studied. Two models as "separated flow model" and "two-phase mixture flow" is developed. The separated flow model considers gas and liquid flow in separated films of flow with an interface between the phases. The two-phase mixture flow considers equivalent fluid mixture from gas and liquid with local modification in density and viscosity. Governing equations include continuity and momentum solved with control volume method. SIMPLE algorithm's been used to pressure-velocity linked equations. Velocity and pressure profiles plotted for mentioned models at a given situations. By comparing...

    Abstract
Mass transfer of a drop moving in a bulk fluid is an interesting subject which has attracted a lot of attention. Understanding effective parameters in this process would be helpful in order to increase the efficiency of the industrial processes related to mass transfer. In this research, the deformation and mas transfer of a moving drop was studied numerically. Navier-Stokes equations and concentration equation were solved separately with a VOF method in an axisymmetric domain using Fluent software. Comparision between numerical results and former experimental results proves the accuracy of the modelling in both fields of deformation and mass transfer. Moreover, effects of the physical...

Numerical Investigation of Instabilities of Flow in Micro-fluid

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yazdi, Hossein (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research concerns investigating the behavior of two-phase flow in the inlet and outlet of the microchannels. Both the droplet based and the continuous microfluidics are considered. For the continuous system whenthe minor fluid enters the microchannel, due to ratio of viscosity of two fluids, viscous folding occurs.Viscous folding phenomena is similar to the buckling phenomena in solids. This means that the viscosity of the fluid, which is applied to two sides of the fluid layer, causes folding the fluid layer and changing the shape of it. For the study we employ a VOF based numerical routine. In order to verify numerical results, the grid and the time step independenciesare checked. In...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Googajelou, Abbas (Author) ; Davomi, Parviz (Supervisor) ; Varahram, Naser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Real modeling of ceramic foam filters, because of their specific tortuosities is not possible and in case of possibility of real modeling of pores in filters, because of restriction of element’s dimensions, the number of elements increases and model can’t be run in a reasonable time with common computers which are accessible nowadays. The common computer simulation of filters in Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) and their effect on fluid flow pattern is done by use of permeability properties of porous media. In this research, ceramic foam filters which are used in casting are simulated by Forchhimer and Darcy models. SUT CAST software is used for simulation, because of its ability for...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yousefi Rad, Sasan (Author) ; Ghoodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The concurrent flow of oil and water is a common occurrence in the field of multiphase flow in different fields including petroleum industry. In such conditions an accurate assessment of pressure loss inside the well plays a vital role in efficient and effective production planning. Changes in well orientation, wellbore diameter, reservoir and fluid properties as well as fluid flow rates are among parameters in which will affect the flow patterns that can occur inside a well during its life time. These flow patterns are created as a result of a competition between viscous, gravity and capillary forces. Due to the fact that the dominant forces vary for different flow regimes, the pressure...

Liquid-liquid-Solid Three Phase Flow in Horizontal Well on Bottom Hole Condition

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nejati Ali Gorzani, Hamed (Author) ; Shad, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
When producing oil reservoirs, if the reservoir formation has a low resistance, the entry of sand into the oil wells is definite. Creating a bed of sand particles at the bottom of the tube can cause operational problems such as reduced production and excessive drop in pressure, equipment failure, erosion and corrosion. By keeping the velocity above the sedimentation rate (the speed of solid particles always moving and above the bottom of the tube), preventing these problems can be prevented. A wide analysis of the flow regime in the horizontal and sloping pipelines for the flow of water, oil, and sand has been made in this context. Also, the effect of sand concentration on the flow regime...

At first the effect of various stresses on reduction of sample's pore volume and thereby reduction the permeability have been studied. The equations used to describe the elasticity relations in saturated matrix block is provided by Bayot theory. In this theory, the system of related equations to stress and strain changes have been developed in matrix. We have used finite element method in COMSOL software to solve the equation system created by elasticity relations in formation. After solving the equations, volume and volumetric strain changes which are caused by the...
